Wimbledon favourite Roger Federer will be out to win yet another crown at his favourite grand slam, but the road starts against Dusan Lajovic in the first round. Join The Roar for live scores from 10pm (AEST).

Federer, who is going for a staggering combination of his ninth Wimbledon crown and 21st overall grand slam title has again been in good form, coming back after taking the clay court season off.

After beginning his season with yet another Australian Open, he has followed the same principle which saw him win the 2017 Championships without losing a set.

There have been so many great moments on centre court at the All England Club, it’s hard to pick just one for Federer, but this could be the crowning glory of the lot if he goes through the tournament again unchallenged.

Federer does have one blip on the radar this year though, having lost the final in Halle to Borna Coric. He didn’t go close to losing a single match on grass last year, so either the younger generation are starting to figure him out or his form isn’t quite as good.

Still, the world No.2 will be confident heading into his favourite grand slam and certainly shouldn’t have a problem in this first round, using the net when he needs to in an attempt to prize open a big advantage over Lajovic and get on and off court as quickly as possible.

Lajovic will be out to now have the scoreline get ugly. He will of course want to win, but know deep down it’s probably not going to happen, no matter how hard he works or how much he extends the points.

So many brilliant players have been brought undone by Federer at the top of their game on this court, so given Lajovic has only played two matches since the French Open, with the second of those resulting in a loss to Nikoloz Basilashvili, the chance of him stretching Federer seems slim.

The Serbian has never been all that appreciative of grass courts either, with just four career wins outside of the challenger circuit. In saying that, he did push Federer just a little bit in the second round last year, taking the first set to a tiebreaker.

Prediction
This won’t be close. Federer is the king of Wimbledon, Lajovic is not. Simple as that.

Federer in straight sets.
