The JLT Community Shield is here, as the AFL pre-season fixtures get underway, and players get their first official run ahead of the 2019 season. Here you can find all the key information for the tournament, including the fixtures, and how to watch them on TV.
The first game will see the Carlton Blues take on the Essendon Bombers at Ikon Park on Thursday, February 28 with the first bounce set for 6:40pm (AEDT).
In total, 18 matches will be played across two weeks, with games played from Thursday to Monday and each of the 18 clubs getting two games before the season gets underway.
Games will also be tracked around the country, giving regional fans a chance to see stars in action, with games in places like Moreton Bay, Shepparton, Mackay, Canberra, Launceston, Lismore, Ballarat and Mandurah.
Being pre-season fixtures, the only way to watch the JLT Community Series, as has been the case for some years, will be through Fox Sports.
They are one of the AFL’s official broadcast partners, who broadcast every game bar the grand final, and run a 24/7 AFL channel, known as Fox Footy.
Fox Footy can be found on Foxtel Channel 504, and to watch the action, you will need to have a valid Foxtel TV subscription, complete with the sports package.
If you would prefer to stream the JLT Community series online over the next fortnight, you will need to do so using Foxtel’s coverage, and there are two ways of doing this.
The best of those options will be to tune in through Kayo Sports, who have the rights to every Foxtel sports channel, plus a number of other selected events from just $25 per month.
Otherwise, you will need to use one of Foxtel’s dedicated streaming applications. If you already have a TV subscription, then the Foxtel App will be the way to go as it’s free to use with valid login details.
If you are only looking to stream the channels of Foxtel, then you’d be best off using Foxtel Now. As is the case with the TV subscription, to watch the AFL pre-season, you’ll need to have the sports package of channels included.
