The Roar’s new twice-weekly sports podcast, Game of Codes, is back to break down a massive weekend of sport.

Wayne Bennett’s comments about referees and the ruck speed were all the talk following the Rabbitohs’ dour 14-6 win over the Bulldogs on Good Friday, but is there actually a problem in rugby league with players slowing the play the ball down? We put the question to Roar NRL Expert AJ Mithen and discussed what the NRL can do to quicken things up.

Given State of Origin is drawing closer and closer – we’re now just over a month away from Game 1 Origin teams being named – we turned our attention to the NSW Blues, and looked at what changes Brad Fittler should make to the side which reclaimed interstate bragging rights last year. And don’t worry, Queensland fans, we’ll get to the Maroons soon.

The AFL threw up yet another unpredictable round over the long weekend, with West Coast getting trounced on their home turf, GWS getting done over by Fremantle just one week after beating Geelong on the road, and Carlton both winning a game and cracking the 100-point barrier, so we asked Roar AFL Expert Cam Rose what the biggest surprise of the week was.

And with St Kilda defying all the pre-season expectations, we discussed just how well the Saints can go in 2019, and what’s driving them to this far better-than-expected start to the year.

Then, to wrap the show up, we called up Roar cricket Expert (and recent winner of both the Wisden Book of the Year and MCC Book of the Year for Steve Smith’s Men) Geoff Lemon to talk about Dave Warner and Steve Smith’s recent IPL half-centuries, and what their form means for Australia’s Cricket World Cup hopes.
