The Europa League quarter-finals began today and it is looking like one of the most exciting European tournaments for a long time.

Here are five reasons why you should turn on your TV if you haven’t been.

Are Barca back?
After 18 years of Champions League football, Barcelona entered the Europa League round of 32 after coming third in their Champions League group this season.

The Blaugrana have a young team with a young manager but Xavi has proven his doubters wrong, closing the gap to 12 points behind La Liga leaders Real Madrid.

Could European success be a stepping stone to redemption and more glory?

Anyone can win
The unpredictability of the Europa League this year is really what makes it such an exciting campaign.

Eight clubs from seven countries will compete for the trophy. You can’t count any of them out, with a draw providing several interesting match-ups.

Neutral’s favourite Rangers
They may be looking likely to lose the Scottish Premiership title to Celtic, but the Glasgow outfit are still giving their fans an unexpected European tour.

The Scots are facing Portuguese club Sporting Braga, who they will fancy themselves against.

David Moyes’ men going far
After years of second half finishes, West Ham fans were just delighted to have made the Europa League group stages.

Quietly, they believed they could go far, and so they have.

The Hammers’ real test came against Sevilla, who have won the competition more times than anyone else.

Overturning a one-goal deficit from the first leg, a Tomas Soucek first-half header and an extra-time Andriy Yarmolenko goal was enough to make the London Stadium rocking and send the Irons into the quarters.

Struggling Ligue 1 side Lyon should be scared.

Christopher Nkunku’s Leipzig bouncing back
After a disappointing start to the Bundesliga campaign, where they sacked now Leeds manager Jesse Marsch, Leipzig are now fourth and looking strong.

They are led by Christopher Nkunku, who has been a shining light in what had been a forgettable season for his club.

Forgettable, unless they do something special here. Their tie against seventh-in-Serie-A Atalanta should be very interesting.
