American singer/songwriter Chris Stapleton has given one of the most moving and memorable performances ever at a Superbowl, blowing spectators away with his heartfelt and emotional rendition.

Before the kick-off between the Philadelphia Eagles v Kansas City Chiefs at State Farm Stadium in Glendale Arizona, all eyes were on Stapleton as he took centre stage to sing the most important song in his career.

There is always a lot of pressure and scrutiny surrounding the anthem at one of the world’s most-watched sporting events, but Stapleton can breathe easy after giving what many believed was a faultless and powerful performance.

Fans both at the ground and watching from home were all blown away by the country star’s rendition of “Star Spangled Banner”, with many claiming it to be the best they have ever seen.

The eight-time Grammy, fifteen-time CMA and ten-time CMA award winner told reporters before he sang: “It’s one that can go horribly wrong as we’ve seen many times in the past. But if you’re gonna do it, this is the place to do it. I’m gonna go out there and play. And play it like I play it.”

And that’s exactly what he did.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was visibly moved, with tears streaming down his face during the performance.

Many were quick to take to social media to praise the performance.

Whitney Houston’s 1991 Superbowl Anthem performance has widely been called the best Superbowl anthem performance ever. According to many, the 32-year reign may have finally come to an end.

Living in a world where you can bet on pretty much anything, fans were eager to see if the anthem would go over or under time.

Those who tipped the under were ecstatic with the timing – and of course, there are always those who get the bet wrong.
