Storm forward Tariq Sims could be outed for five games for two offences – a shoulder charge and high tackle – in Saturday night’s loss to Newcastle.

He can cop a $3000 fine instead of a ban for the shoulder charge on Mat Croker while the high shot on Jackson Hastings has been graded a ban of 2-3 weeks.

Melbourne hooker Harry Grant ($1000-$1500 for dangerous contact), Knights veteran Adam Elliott ($1800-$2500 for a high tackle), Cowboys centre Valentine Holmes ($1800-$2500 for a high tackle), and Eels duo and Waqa Blake ($1500-$2000 for a shoulder charge) and Ryan Matterson ($1300-$1500 for dangerous contact) can all avoid bans by paying a fine.

Matterson infamously opted to cop a ban instead of paying a fine for an incident in last year’s grand final so it will be interesting to see if he does so again.

Martin Taupau will miss the Broncos’ next three matches after the NRL judiciary slapped him with a lengthy ban following his raised knee into Souths centre Campbell Graham.

The Samoa international will have the chance to contest the ruling, but faces an extra game should he do so and lose.

Many viewers were surprised that a harsher punishment was not meted out on ground, with referee Ashley Klein opting to sin bin Taupau rather than send him off for the incident in the 12th minute of the match.

In the post-match press conference, Broncos coach Kevin Walters revealed that the NRL had written to Taupau about his running style, but had to that point only issued a warning.

Jesse Arthars was also sat down for 10 minutes late on for a high shot on Blake Taaffe, which has earned him a one-game suspension if he takes the early guilty plea.

A $1800 contrary conduct fine was dished out to Canberra enforcer Corey Horsburgh after he was penalised for running in and sparking a brawl after a Josh Curran tackle .in the loss to the Warriors
