Nick Kyrgios may not be competing at the 2024 Australian Open due to a wrist injury, but the 28-year old will still be front and centre at his home grand slam.
The 2022 Wimbledon finalist and Aus Open doubles winner two years ago has been snapped up by ESPN to join their commentary team to broadcast across North America throughout the tournament.
“On behalf of ESPN, we are thrilled to have Nick join the on-air team in Australia. He brings an electric mix of experience and enthusiasm and pedigree and passion for tennis,” ESPN senior vice-president Mark Gross said in a statement.
“His candor and genuine rapport with fans, and his first-hand knowledge facing some of the players he’ll be commenting on, promise to inject a dynamic and authentic edge to our 2024 Australian Open coverage.”
Kyrgios, who withdrew from the Australian Open late last year citing wrist issues, said he ‘couldn’t ask for anything better’.
“I recently hinted that I would have some special things planned for the Australian Open and this is one of them,” he said in a statement.
“I love watching tennis and to be able to break down matches on live television, for ESPN, in Australia, I almost couldn’t ask for anything better.”

Kyrgios made his commentary debut for the Tennis Channel during last year’s ATP World Tour Finals, and won rave reviews for his insight, analysis and charisma.
In addition to ESPN, Kyrgios has also signed with European broadcaster Eurosport for the Australian Open.
However, he won’t be seen on Australian broadcaster Nine.
Television duties are far from the only media the always controversial Canberran will be producing throughout the tournament – he will work with Tennis Australia to create social media content from Melbourne Park, while he recently signed with adult subscription service OnlyFans in an eyebrow-raising move.
Kyrgios will interview Novak Djokovic following the world No.1’s charity match against Stefanos Tsitsipas at Rod Laver Arena on Thursday night, for a live teaser episode of his new Good Trouble podcast.
