Australian striker Mark Viduka could be about to join compatriot Mark Schwarzer at English Premier League club Fulham.
The London club, owned by Harrods billionaire Mohamed Al Fayed, has emerged as the frontrunner to sign Viduka before the new season begins on Saturday.
Rivals Portsmouth had been in talks with the Socceroos star but negotiations collapsed because of the club’s ongoing financial problems.
Britain’s Daily Express reported that Viduka was now likely to sign with the Cottagers on a free transfer.
The 33-year-old, who is believed to be after a two-year contract, is expected to undergo a medical at Fulham on Thursday.
“He flew into London last night for talks with Cottagers manager Roy Hodgson,” the newspaper reported.
“Portsmouth had lined up Viduka in the last couple of weeks, but that deal collapsed because of the club’s financial worries and Fulham have now moved in.”
Viduka became a free agent after his contract with Newcastle expired at the end of last season.
The Australian was plagued by injury during his time at the relegated club.
He had reportedly been offered STG40,000 ($A79,900) a week to sign for Portsmouth.
