Sweet revenge for Rafa as de Minaur downed to keep legend's Madrid fairytale alive
Alex de Minaur has missed out on the chance of a lifetime to beat Rafael Nadal on clay in successive tournaments, blown away by…
Samantha Stosur has ensured a happy ending to a frustrating Wimbledon campaign after claiming the fifth grand slam doubles title of her career.
The Australian and Serbian playing partner Nenad Zimonjic beat Max Mirnyi and Hao-Ching Chanwon 6-4 6-2 in Sunday’s mixed doubles final.
Stosur’s second mixed doubles title at the grass court grand slam offered some consolation after she lost in the first round of singles to unseeded Belgian Yanina Wickmayer.
“My singles campaign was over pretty quick,” the 17th seed said.
“It’s always nice to leave a tournament winning no matter what the event.
“I think leaving Wimbledon 2014, I’ll think of it as a great memory and leaving with a trophy at the end is fantastic.”
Stosur added to her 2008 triumph in the event at Wimbledon alongside American Bob Bryan.
The world No.17 also won mixed doubles at the Australian Open in 2005 and has women’s doubles titles from the US Open (2005) and French Open (2006).
Stosur, the 2011 US Open singles champion, will now turn her attention to preparing for the American hard court season, as well as finding a new coach after parting with Brit Miles Maclagan just a week out from Wimbledon.
