Afghanistan wicketkeeper Mohammad Shahzad has been a character on and off the field at the ICC World Twenty20 tournament.
The stocky player certainly hasn’t been shy in his approach to the game and whether it’s through confidence or sheer arrogance Shahzad decided to take aim at one of the game’s greats.
After scoring 44 off 19 balls in a relatively close loss to South Africa, Shahzad was asked about whether it was easier not having to deal with the pace of Dale Steyn, who didn’t play.
“I love playing against Dale Steyn because Steyn is not dangerous anymore,” Shahzad said.
“Dale Steyn is only pace [he doesn’t swing the ball] so this wicket is good for a pacer, the ball is coming onto the bat so I’m not happy that Steyn didn’t play.”
Shahzad’s intensity on the field has made him a must-watch player, whether it’s through his aggressive batting, arrogant stumpings or cat like reflexes in making a run-out.
