Sweet revenge for Rafa as de Minaur downed to keep legend's Madrid fairytale alive
Alex de Minaur has missed out on the chance of a lifetime to beat Rafael Nadal on clay in successive tournaments, blown away by…
Bernard Tomic decided to go experimental while match-point down against Fabio Fognini in the Madrid Open.
Tomic lost the first set 6-2 and was down 5-4 in the second. With Fognini 40-love up Tomic essentially gave the match away by holding the racquet the wrong way on the return. It turned out to be a good serve by Fognini which would have been hard to return in any event.
Tomic’s latest actions hardly endearing him to his critics with his on-court attitude coming under scrutiny again this year when the Australian seemed more interested in why Nick Kyrgios wasn’t in attendance during the tie against the USA.
