Melbourne might have been hit with a major COVID outbreak, but the reigning premiers still present a formidable opponent for a still-building Hawthorn to try and take down. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage from 4:35pm (AEST).

The Demons are undefeated after six rounds, to take their winning streak to 13 – the second-longest in club history.

Relentless, ruthless and looking all but unbeatable at the moment, things have rarely been better at Melbourne than they are right now. Even the loss of premiership foursome Harry Petty, Kysaiah Pickett, Luke Jackson and Tom Sparrow won’t faze them in the least, especially with stars Jack Viney and Jake Lever among those returning.

One man with more to prove than most is Tom McDonald, who has been given a second chance by the COVID outbreak after being dropped for the Dees’ ANZAC Day eve win over Richmond. Fighting with Ben Brown and Sam Weideman for limited key forward spots, a big game here could see McDonald re-establish himself in the Dees’ best 22.

The Hawks were brilliant in the first ten minutes against Sydney on ANZAC Day, gritty for the next three quarters, and then blown to smithereens in the last 15 minutes to end up losing by nearly seven goals.

Nevertheless, there are plenty of encouraging signs for Sam Mitchell to take to heart heading into the biggest challenge in the AFL.

As a player, Mitchell inflicted many a savage beatdown on the Dees during the Hawks’ premiership run in the 2010s. Can he mastermind another one today?
