The “demand” for the apology has nothing to do with colonisation. If I said something that someone, rightly or wrongly, took offence to, I would apologize for the misunderstanding and try to move forward. I thought that was just manners.

Rugby News: 'Be courageous' - Eddie's come and get me plea to Japan, Bongi's dig at 'sad' reaction from 'first world country'

Whatever was said, it is obvious that Curry felt it was directed at him. Surely if it wasn’t directed towards Curry, Bongi could have just apologized for the misunderstanding and moved on. His silence on the matter gave the space for everyone else to come in with various different explanations, pretty much all in Bongi’s favour.
This perceived arrogance that the Books are never wrong, even if they are, is one of the reasons this side is so hard to like.

The other thing it that conversation, Geoff, is do we have the resources that the proposed incoming coach would like.
EJ has burned through a hell of a lot of resources, both human and financial, since he last coached the Wallabies.
We need to identify someone who can maximize the returns from the resources we have, not just burning through them in the hope they stumble upon a solution.

The Wrap: What will the Wallabies' external season review reveal that we don’t already know?

Obviously a coach is super important to a team, but good management is essential to the sport as a whole. I don’t think RA should be allowed to appoint anyone as head coach until the review has been carried out and the results made public.
The public will not get behind a management team of narcissists and gas lighters.

'That's one of the options': Foster admits Test coaching return possible as he reacts to Wallabies link

The failure of Rugby Australia wouldn’t happen to align with the mess EJ left first time around, would it?

'Load of rubbish': Eddie tees off on 'red herring' excuse for Wallabies' RWC flop, rejects Hoops issue, Lions link

I agree that the card for Frizelle was particularly harsh. It seemed that all the refereeing team were nervous and just wanted to make a decision, right or wrong.
As far as Faf not putting the ball in, that was just smart. For all the talk of speeding the game up, I cannot recall a single example at this WC where a team was sanctioned for slowing the game up. Extra players elongating the ruck after the ref had called “use it”, full blown committee meetings before every lineout, forwards just sitting down to undo and retie their shoelaces before scrums and support staff contining to flood the field at every opportunity and laughing at the ref when he tells them to get off are now just accepted practices.
All of these behaviours were “normalised” during the terrible BIL tour to SA a couple of years ago.

SPIRO ZAVOS: 'Crazy brave' Boks are a team for the ages - but key decisions cleared their path to glory

I wouldn’t say Rassie is ” without ego”.

'Completely unfair': Eddie sledge that angered Waugh, new coaching contenders emerge to rebuild Wallabies

Whom ever RA get to be the next coach of the Wallabies, I hope it is made clear that is their only job. Eddie came on as overseer of all rugby in Australia and delivered less than nothing. The alarm bells should have been ringing when EJ had clauses written into his contract about getting more financial resources and control over all high performance programs. Look how well he was going with England over the past few years with the most resources, both human and financial, in world rugby.
I thought the mess he left Aus Rugby in the last time he left should have been warning enough.

'Completely unfair': Eddie sledge that angered Waugh, new coaching contenders emerge to rebuild Wallabies

I think there has to be a serious discussion about teams now competing for penalties, not possesion.
It feels like most teams will not release the ball from athe scrum unless they are awarded a penalty advantage. So effectively a team is penalised for a knock on.
Again at the breakdown jacklers are demanding penalties because they had their hands on the ball. Two things here, if you can get the ball, use it and play on and the second, if it is called a ruck everyone has to release the ball. I am sick and tired of the second or third player in getting rewarded for illegal play.
We have to get back to a game that encourages teams to play with the ball and take their advantage by forcing a team to retreat in defence, not because there is a 50-50 call by the ref.
Rant over, carry on.

Did over-regulation suck the life out of the Rugby World Cup?

Hi Geoff, is this a case of the player being penalised for the outcome rather than the action. Players get hurt all the time by getting twisted in a tackle or incidental contact without the card coming out. Both the TMO and Mr Barnes were clear that the attempted clean out was OK so I don’t see where the foul play comes in.

The World Cup Wrap: France 2023 got a final befitting the host nation - imperfect, baffling and historic

As much as it hurts me to say it, this has been a master class of planning and strategizing by Rassie. He realised early that the focus on safety suited SA’s traditional style. He then made sure those advantages were hammered home over the past few years. The injury before every scrum, the squad of “trainers” and “Waterboys” flooding the field at every opportunity, the playing for penalties and putting the refs under pressure to call them and having a bench often better than the starters are all innovations of Rassie’s and he now has consecutive World Cups in the cupboard.
I personally don’t like the way the game has headed but you have to applaud the planning and persistence that has gone into it.

'So many s--t emotions:' Distraught Cane says he'll have to live with red card pain 'forever', Foz questions Kolisi escape

Looking at it from the other side, is the 20 min red not enough of a deterrent to stop foul play.
The high tackle protocols have been around for a few years now but it doesn’t seem to be getting through to the players coming out of Super Rugby.

'So many s--t emotions:' Distraught Cane says he'll have to live with red card pain 'forever', Foz questions Kolisi escape

Eddie comes in, talks a big game, makes a series of unusual decisions and then refuses to explain them to the supporters, delivers the Wallabies worst WC ever and then gets to negotiate his departure on his terms?
If this is not a case study of an incompetent administration, I don’t know what is.

'I'm so pissed off': Eddie open to walking away from Wallabies if it suits RA, sticks knife into Hoops, Quade

I know money is king but I don’t like turning national sides into glorified club sides. Why do we have to have a competition to prove who is the best nation. One of the great things about rugby were the discussions had between people from different cultures and nationalities discussing the merits of their side, knowing they may only play each other every few years.
Test matches used to be a real event, a special day kids would remember forever. Turning them into a “club” game has removed the mystique of the games that were played to celebrate rugby and the communities that supports it.

'Evolution for the game': McLennan hails Nations Cup, World Cup expansion as 'massive win' for Australia

Unfortunately I think how Mr Barnes referees the game will have the biggest influence.
If the game is allowed to flow at a reasonable pace, I think the ABs can win. If the game just goes from set piece to set piece and then a rolling maul or forwards hammering at the line, I think the Books would win.
I think after the WC is over there will have to be some discussions around how the game is being played. Just about every team now goes out to play for penalties, not possession.
This is putting to much pressure and spotlight on the refs rather than a genuine contest between players.

Did England's tactics against the Boks give New Zealand the blueprint for World Cup final victory?

I don’t want to just pile it on but don’t forget when Hamish threw Eddie the keys it was for the whole national program, both men and women’s.
After several weeks of contributing nothing to the women’s game Eddie backed out of this responsibility leaving the only growth section of the game in Australia without a leader.

Forget Eddie's Coogee circus, the biggest questions Australian rugby must answer were revealed in Paris

Even during the Super Rugby season I thought BOK was refereeing different rules to everyone else.
I understand why the French feel aggrieved, but you have to give credit to the Saffas for better understanding what O’Keefe is strict on and where he shows leniency.
I think that Rassie’s skewering of Nick Berry do still subconsciously affects refs when doing a SA game.

RWC News: World Rugby's epic troll in semis ref call, legend snipes at 'bandwagon' Kiwi fans, Bok great roasts Poms

I realise that Eddie has had success in the past, but has he ever shown he could significantly improve a team? The Wallabies that he took to a WC final had been winning Bledisloes and were jam packed with world class players before EJ got involved. I would also say that Eddie got lucky taking over from Lancaster in England just at the time a lot of their players were hitting their straps.
The teams he has taken on with significant issues, i.e the Reds and the current Wallabies have floundered and actually regressed.
An often used metric to evaluate coaches is have they left a team in a better position than when they took them on.
By this measure Eddie has been failing for years. It is also something RA should have well been aware of.

REPORT: Eddie Jones to quit Wallabies and join Japan as head coach

I think true Centralisation is a pipe dream while Hamish and Waugh control RA. I completely understand and sympathise with all the other Unions not trusting a Sydney based model run by some of the same people that destroyed the NRC.
Rightly or wrongly, while the Chairman and CEO are from Sydney, they will never have the trust required from the other Unions to effect meaningful and sustainable changes.

'Right people in right roles': QRU break silence on RA's reform hopes, back review into Wallabies' RWC flop

My issue with the TMO is they have changed how many top refs control the game. A lot of on field refs now let clear and obvious infringements go “confident” in the knowledge that the TMO will pull it up. The problem is that could be several phases later or sometimes not at all. It creates an artificial rhythm to the game and potentially invites injury into essentially dead play.
The ref on the field has to be in charge at the ARs and TMO should respect that and not overcall just to be involved.

The Wrap: Wallabies are on their way home - can they please take the TMOs with them?

I can understand why the QRU has reservations about a centralized model. RA has the distinct look of the Sydney Mafia that has done all it can to maintain the sanctity of the Shite Shield, no matter the damage to the game nationally.
I think there are a lot of scores to be settled before we see some genuine cooperation.

RA 'committed' to Eddie despite 'bitterly disappointing' RWC campaign, in talks with NZR over northern threat

This story has the stink of misdirection.
Let’s all talk about a player who will never come to rugby rather than keep talking about how clueless the current administration is.
I hope we don’t start sliding towards the Fox model.

Why the Wallabies shouldn't miss out on the next Joey and try to lure Cleary for 2027 World Cup

I am going to be very disappointed if this turns into a covert campaign to get Rugby back over to Fox. Last time around, Fox acted as if they owned the game and disenfranchised many long time supporters. The game still hasn’t recovered.

Why News Corp and Foxtel are set to go after rugby broadcast rights despite Wallabies' World Cup flop

I am a little bemused at the description that EJ “is a great coach”. Based on his results over the past few years where he put England into a tailspin and now the debacle at the Wallabies, I think the fairest description is he WAS a great coach.
Eddie’s methods and plans have not been successful for a few years across two different teams, one having the biggest player base and resources in the world.
Would you hire him?

DENIED (sort of): Jones finally addresses Japan job report but a big question still remains

I am getting tired of the managers of League players rolling out ‘but rugby will pay gazillions” for their player when contract time comes around.
I know RA have chased a few RL players, but nowhere near as many as the managers and clowns on Fox Sports make out.
