It looks like EJ has committed……to RWC 2027. The selection approach is no surprise.

Shock and raw: New skipper, rookies galore and Test careers brutally ended as Eddie's RWC bombshells CONFIRMED

I would be worried about any team in RWC contention that has an inexperienced 5/8 without a grooved kicking game. Most of the history shows that, once it gets to the meat and potatoes of QF/SF, this skill is vital: more than the excellence of the ponies on show.

Setback that could cruel Wallabies' RWC hopes - but all hope not lost if Eddie sticks with Gen Next

Nah – he’d just escape, and the ending would be a bloody but not happy one for the troops.

The Wrap: A dozen reasons why the Wallabies can’t win the World Cup - and a couple why they might

Do you watch much “euro rugby” these days? If you did, the traditional SH generalisation about slower pace would be what it is – not accurate.

There is a whiff of myth about this Springboks side - and they were badly exposed by All Blacks' coaching team

The game plan relies on them making mistakes – absolutely – the mistakes that come from the kick chasers arriving rapidly to force a turnover, or just create mayhem. How much of this was in evidence?

Studs and duds: 'Horrendous' Vunivalu 'will cop a caning', Quade Cooper 'not the answer' as Carter stakes RWC claim

The worrying thing for Aus is that many of the other tier one nations do not just have one of these BIG, effective loosies, but a production line of them.

Wallabies player ratings: Forward pack eaten up, Suli taught a lesson and kicking game badly off

Expectation (from the rugby-going public) far exceeded the ability to deliver from a rookie Aussie Test set-up: cf. Borthwick and the England 6N performance this year. It’s a race against RWC23 time for both teams.

REACTION: 'You don't have to be a smart arse, mate' - Eddie blows up at journo after Wallabies shocker

With Eddie the modalities are important: “to find players who can be world class”; “Joe Cokanasiga can be one of the best wingers in the world”.

'Best winger in the world': Why Eddie is risking it big on the Highveld to try and unlock Suli's NRL mindset

Apparently even Leicester needed a big bail-out in the near past, so things are tough – and likely to remain so. As you say, significant change required.

Rugby News: Foketi's new deal, All Black off to France, more financial chaos in UK as giants suspended

The London Irish news is sad but was on the cards. Their brand of rugby was very enjoyable to watch and appreciated. The diaspora of English players at home and overseas continues. Top players like Tom Pearson and Arundell seem to have already found homes: for the others….

Rugby News: Foketi's new deal, All Black off to France, more financial chaos in UK as giants suspended

The contrasting mood music at the two ends of the world appears very interesting. In Australia, the return of the king Eddie has provided a morale and sport interest boost: from mild dread, the team’s prospects are now riding much higher. But he is yet to be tested.

It’s the exact opposite here. Borthwick and the team have been all but written off – by the media, rugby ex-coaches, and many home supporters. Handed a team with no time to work with, and no established coaching set-up, the 6N results for the coach were uneven to say the least.

I wonder if over optimism and pessimism will play out when it gets to the pointy-end in the autumn?

What jilted Jones thinks about England relationship now, and his verdict on Wallabies' style for World Cup

“Let’s go round again”…

'They said we couldn't do it': Skelton and La Rochelle defy odds in epic comeback to seal Champions Cup title

Don’t worry – they will all soon be in for an EJ ‘beasting’. If it’s anything like the one with England towards the start of his term there, expect to see a stream of players with broken or damaged bits and pieces…

In France, in the NH autumn, away from home. Hmmm.

'Very scary': Drua land another blow on Super Rugby heavyweights after upsetting 'Canes in Fiji

Not being one to underestimate those wonders in the English Fourth Rate Estate, I still have my doubts about there being any “frothing”. Folau’s time in the spotlight (and at 34, the top level) is probably gone.

Izzy vs Eddie: Folau set for Twickenham clash with Jones that's sure to have English media frothing

The EJ Player Lotto Squad Selection Game has launched! (squid to follow)

Wallabies squad confirmed: Eddie Jones shocks with big name omissions from first training camp

Ha ha – bonkers! RL stars cross code and win RWC23 for Australia. Good copy though. Shame Eddie could not focus on the basics and thus got the sack in his last job…

'Could be a zinger for World Cup': RA chair says Eddie is in NRL's 'heads' as star name dropped

Nice soundbites Mick, but it’s a full reboot situation, not business as usual. For England, it is learn how to win (again), then entertain. At the moment, it looks like it is starting to come together. However, the biggest challenges now await….

Northern View: 6N a 'fantasy land of twists and turns' but one game was so grim 'the thousands who were blotto were the lucky ones'

Borthwick described what guides his coaching philosophy: the match data. Everything else is froth. Smart of Eddie to play a straight bat to the media spin.

Rugby News: 'Keep blaming me!': Eddie's surprise reaction to Borthwick sledge, WBs fixtures confirmed

Not surprised by the England performance or result. They looked like what they are – a new everything (squad, coaches), trying to find a new path. It will get better, but the time is not there to be serious contenders for RWC23. Hey ho.

Six Nations Wrap: van der Merwe double ruins Borthwick's England debut, Gatland's false start in return as Wales trounced

Undoubtedly, Eddie as a new broom with his own methods is more likely to succeed from experience. What is interesting also for the longer term future though is the mood music that has emerged so far from the England camp about their change.
“It’s been really enjoyable,” said Northampton Saints back-rower Ludlam. “We’re just getting to grips with things that have changed. The set-up has changed quite a bit and so has the way the week is set up. It feels like there is a new excitement around the team and a slight change in focus. The main difference is how we’re talking about the way we want to play. I think we’re getting a real clarity and the emotional connection as well. We want to be a team that works hard for one another. There’s been a lot of focus on that over the last three days.”
Yes, it is early doors but there are, I think, some interesting clues as to coaching philosophy and work methods.

'I'm going to flog you': The real Eddie from nine Wallabies who know him - and why he's 'complete package'

The noises from the new England regime would make me worried about EJ in this respect. Much talk of now “getting the basics right”, scrummaging etc. And it’s still a “wow” for another major team to roll the dice this close to a WC.

'Major coup': Rennie axed with Eddie Jones returning as Wallabies coach on mammoth deal for two Cups

Probably. Correlation is not causality. Nick refers to the factors that are most relevant – refereeing in particular.

Rugby in Australia will die in isolation. The only cure is to break out of the circle of insularity, not reinforce it

Since 2016, he has apparently run the rule over 150 players in squad. And one year out, there does not appear to be any reward for such scrutiny. Some have made mistakes – and been discarded. Others have played well – and received the same treatment. Bizarre.

'Entirely my fault': Eddie Jones accepts blame for England humiliation by Boks, but insists 'I can coach well'

The clock is ticking for EJ…and England. A poor 6N again and RWC 23 can all but be written off.
