I went to the Heart game…………………..what a stadium……………that place will rock when Victory play there.

Heart make promising debut but still go down to Mariners

Having just paid a small fortune to buy MVFC memberships for myself and my family, I can tell you straight away what the greatest impediment is to growth in the A-league.
It is simply too expensive!
The same goes for attendances at the pre season friendlies.
It cost me $40 an adult and $25 for my 14 year old daughter to watch MVFC against Boca in what were the cheapest tickets!
Thank God the rest of the family stayed home.
Now I may sound like I’m whinging, but the fact is that I would probably pay anything as Aussie soccer is my passion and has been for over 30 years.
Excessive prices however will make others who might not be as passionate, or those who are perhaps early in their working lives and not yet as financially comfortable, stop short of giving their full support to the game, just at the time when the league needs everyone it can get.
The A-league should be ensuring it is the easiest of all the national football codes for young families and young people to attend.
That is the demagraphic they should consider when setting ticketing prices, otherwise the league might end up the same as the old NSL, being watched every week by a few thousand middle aged men like myself, until it eventually goes the way of the dodo.
Meanwhile, I will be watching the Victory as a member, and will be attending Heart games as a casual observer because this is my passion.
Luckily I can afford it…….just.

Where will the A-League fans come from?

williams, spiranovic, leijer and kantarovski will have plenty of world cup action in the future. they are all pacey, agile and most of all, big.

Spiranovic could be Socceroos' backline saviour

It is way too early to be talking promotion and relegation at the moment.
This does not mean however that the ground work should not start.
How about creating a stand alone, second tier competition.
Existing clubs such as Marconi and South Melbourne as examples, clubs with ambition to become mainstream clubs, as well as having a strong basic infastructure, in that they maintain and operate out of decent small stadiums, could make up part of this ‘Super league’.
Add in to this league teams from regions with A-league aspirations such as Tasmania and Wollongong.
A super league made up of the strongest premier league clubs from around the country, clubs with stadiums and ambition.
This league could be given the opportunity to mature in its own right until the day when an A-league club being relegated to the super league would not automatically mean the clubs demise.
It might take a decade or two of these leagues running along side eachother, a top tier followed by a definate second tier, before promotion and relegation would fully intergrate the leagues.
We definately need a level between A-league and the various state run premier leagues.
It could be an option that eventually leads to the ‘holy grail’.

Lowy's A2-League proposal is premature

I have to agree……..this boy has a lot going for him.
Other boys who should be looked at by Heart are Langerack from Melbourne and Agius from Fury.
These boys are too good not to be playing week in week out.
There are options with more senior players such as Cristaino and Van dyke coming out of contract.
What about Skoko and Simunic. Both local boys might consider it time to return home.
Bresciano and Grella might look to come home to their families following the world cup.
Melbourne Heart ( the name will stick) really should be able to piece together a good team and have a real Melbourne feel to the side.
The Heart should think big.

Melbourne Heart must target Leckie

It really is time for the league to give Matthew Breeze a rest.
How many games must this twit stuff up before someone acts.
There is no way that game warranted so many cards. The two cards Kohler got were a disgrace.
Just because Henrique was running fast as he lost control of the football does not make that a bad tackle.
His momentum took him as he stumbled, but the tackle itself was not vicious at all.
As for the second tackle of Kohlers, ….what tackle?
This referee is too big headed for his own good. He should take a look at how Stebre Delovski adjudicates a game.
Let the game flow and keep the cards in your pocket.
I’m a Victory fan………but geewiz I felt for the Fury the other night.
This bloke needs the arse for the good of the league.

North Queensland denied victory again

Welcome to the world of football addiction.
While every now and then a game will bore your socks off ( thats what alcohol is for), but it’s the games that do that to you, the edge of your seat stuff, that keep you coming back for more.
I hope your friends and family will understand.

90 Minutes, 90 Emotions
