I am glad to see the stigma of Las Vegas as a market that can never have pro sports is a dead thing. The NHL, WNBA and NFL have shown it can work and I think way too much of that was people only seeing the Strip as the only part of Vegas. I’ve spent a lot of time in my life since I was a kid in Las Vegas when I’ve ventured away from Canada and I’ve seen how its just like any other U.S. city, there’s homes, schools, etc and a investors who want pro sports. It just stinks at how they’ll get a team. For expansion, you’re right Tufanooo, its not going to be just one team. It hasn’t been one team expansion in decades, the 1993 and 1998 expansions were two teams at a time so we’re multiple teams at once whenever its time to expand again (most likely Nashville and Portland).

Heading for a sad ending: The pending departure of the Athletics in Oakland is a black mark for Major League Baseball

It’s true, AJ, and he’s peddling the “I did all I could” line to Oakland fans; they’ll really buy that…

The Denver game (a crowd of close to 20,000 fans in an NFL stadium for the code that isn’t as well known in the US was nothing to sneeze at) with England and New Zealand back in 2018 should have been the start of something bigger but it wasn’t universally embraced by the NRL/British RL. It could be possible to make some level of impact but NRL has to truly commit to this and market it right. Manly vs South Sydney would have been great with the owners involved but it’s too bad Souths pulled out.

I think one weekend in four different countries is too much though. Pick one spot and see how it grows. Go in big with Round Zero, and bring the full NRL experience to California, don’t just bring a game and then leave, make it a 2-3 day event where you properly re-introduce yourselves to those who might be unfamiliar with the code over here in North America. Let fans meet players, take players, coaches, etc to a Lakers or Dodgers game and hold events with the local RL teams in the area.

Commit to this being a yearly thing. A one-off event that never returns will have zero long-term impact.

HA! You’re not the first to suggest that.

'Admirals', 'Presidents', 'Armada'? Will the Washington Football Team's new name be any good?

Nothing else is coming across better than WFT!

Hahahaha

We’ll see what Super League says but the hope certainly is that they’ll be back in 2021 even if it means starting the season on negative points.

If things can get sorted out they’ll still be a future for the club. They’ve done a ton for the sport in North America and also, SBW still has an ownership stake in the Wolfpack and the 2nd year of his playing deal for next year. Having him back and actually playing in front of a home crowd will be big.

Sonny Bill Williams in limbo after Toronto quits Super League

People traveled overseas to see the Wolfpack before SBW. What makes you think they wouldn’t come? Sounds like you’ve never been to Lamport for a game 🙂

Sonny Bill Williams is Canada bound

I think that will happen eventually! It may take a couple more seasons but I could see it happen. There’s also a side in Ottawa coming in 2021 in the RFL, that one is putting Canadians into league a major priority at the professional level from the jump.

Sonny Bill Williams is Canada bound

Beyond excited to see Sonny Bill with the Wolfpack! TWP have been cracking more and more into the crowded Canadian sports landscape and this move has opened up so many more eyes about League over here!

Has Sonny Bill signed with the Wolfpack?

I’m pretty sure almost every four letter word I heard for the first time came in school! HAHA

Apparently Super League's biggest problem is bad language

Hi Paul! Like I said in the piece if that’s really an issue remove the mics from so close to the players, do we really need to hear everything being said? Could refs chat with the captains? Sure but that’s not going to magically fix things forever.

I truly doubt parents would stop kids from getting involved in League due to language, every sport has it at some point.

Thank you Fred! From what I know it sounds like Hamilton was replaced by Ottawa. Not saying that Hamilton won’t one day be a future RFL city but plans have shifted.

Thank you! I’ve had the chance before to chat with Eric in Toronto and when he’s promised something in rugby league in Canada he’s made it happen. His plan for Ottawa via Hemel will be successful.

The future of rugby league In Canada

The idea of professional Rugby League one day in this country from coast to coast is a big dream of mine! I think it truly could happen.
