Agree with that Burgy – wrote an article on this – https://www.theroar.com.au/2018/09/24/its-time-for-australias-new-batsmen-to-shine/

The talent at U19 and U17 also looks good currently

Marcus Harris and Jake Lehmann stake early claims for Test selection

The 20th over in both matches have been very expensive..that has meant pakistan carrying all the momentum in the break.

The tentativeness in batting is back !!! and hence the collapses . In the tests also khawaja and finch were positive with their footwork , even while defending and scored the runs well. This tentativeness and poking around is causing unbelievable harm to the side

Australia's bizarre tactics see them lose to Pakistan. Again

Destructive for rheir own team you mean lol .. all polished up by candy and pie bowling for less than 25

UAE T20s give Australia's World Cup hopefuls a chance to shine

What an unbelievable article !!!! The guy has not played continous serious cricket for a while now and you have put him in the mid order for Australia lol

The solution to Australian cricket's woes

We have quite a few young ones stacking up at the moment IMO – this and the next few Shield seasons are going to be really exciting !!

Have summed up the batting stocks here earlier – https://www.theroar.com.au/2018/09/24/its-time-for-australias-new-batsmen-to-shine/

Shield youngsters strike cause for optimism

Border and Julian wondering what the reasons are for these repated subcon failures despite preparation , A tours all going well. The wicket has not been that bad not spitying and turning square by any means.
Everything points only to one issue – Can Langer instill the mental toughness in sheep like timid minds like SMarsh , MMarsh, Head etc…thats the only thing that this team wants MENTAL FORTITUDE .. slightest bit of pressure and the team just surrenders !!!!

Holland's Test career is on the line against Pakistan

Labu owes Renshaw a treat !!!!!!! Renshaw’s injury has opened the door twice for him – once in the A tour game and now on the cusp of a baggy green. He looks good (also against spin) when he gets in though.

Labuschagne could replace concussed Renshaw in first Test

Speaking of young guns – check my article : https://www.theroar.com.au/2018/09/24/its-time-for-australias-new-batsmen-to-shine/
Have outlined some of the batting contenders here

We seem to be getting into a really exciting phase of Australian cricket in general at the moment
Langer has outlined the mantra of 100s for these young guns and thats what they should be focusing on the most !!!

Qadir's strange debut, young guns firing and finally some respect for spin

Ronan maybe you just selected the test batting group for 2 years down the line season ????

It's time for Australia's new batsmen to shine

I have not included the batsmen who are already in the test squad . Head can be a very good test player – he always strikes me as one working hard to improve and become a better player. The selectors also need to give him a fair run in the side

It's time for Australia's new batsmen to shine

Yes there are good players like Marcus Harris , Travis Dean , Sam Heazlett – all a little bit inconsistent but have the potential to make the jump to the next level. Philippe smacked a 60 odd today and looks a different class when he gets going. Too bad McKenzie Harvey got out after getting a start.

What might also help is we have really battle hardened players like Voges , McDonald , Seccombe , Jacques etc who are in charge of the Shield sides with Rogers and Rhino at NCA which will only help out these young guns develop.

This JLT cup has been really positive so far

It's time for Australia's new batsmen to shine

What about Handscomb Simoc.. i think if he can get a little bit mentally tougher he will make a grest test batsman in his second coming

It's time for Australia's new batsmen to shine

You are right Paul – playing county cricket will make all of these pkayers much more rounded cricketers. I wonder why it has gotten out of fashion nowadays.

It's time for Australia's new batsmen to shine

Would give a try with Head at 3 – i think that’s where he made all his runs in A series in India.

So Khawaja and Renners to open , Head 3 , MMarsh 4 , SMarsh 5 , Finch 6 , Paine 7 and bowlers 7-11.
Finch , SMarshes and Paine need to be ready for rescue acts !!!

Deliberately putting SMarsh , Finch and Paine as 5,6,7 as they are the type of calm heads would be required in case of a collapse early on / to face reverse swing late on

Finch set for Ashes trial in UAE

People here conveniently forgetting the mighty Chris Lynn .. imagine he gets going on those small Pom grounds

Who will be in Australia’s world cup squad?

He will not need to bowl at Australian test venues anyway – Nathan Lyon will !!

Head, Patterson and Labuschagne vying to steal Handscomb's Test spot

Agree Ronan and given that thing – Head
Short
Stoinis
Marsh
Paine
Finch
Maxwell
Agar
Neser
Tye
Stanlake

Imagine Finch Maxwell and Agar teeing off in the slog overs without any pressure on them

Aaron Finch to move to Australia's ODI middle order

You make some good points mate.. I think we play far too little A cricket as also there are hardly any U19 tours

This is the need of the hour. However the Aus-AusA tests in off season should be in addition to the A tours abroad .

Should we bring back Australia A to help boost depth?

Lets get one thing right – Australia is now easily and by a mile the weakest team mentally in world cricket right now. Its not talent but finding mentally strong players

Selectors are 90% of the issue actually..they have not given any chances to any of the young talents in the batting department. They seem to have a policy of trusting and picking only from among a small set of players.Smarsh Mmarsh Voges Neville Lyon – they have just not looked beyond a few players. They do not seem to have the vision to spot and pick talent

Though the FC averages mentioned are average in themselves one should look at the recent 2-3 seasons data for the young batsmen – it will tell a different story. There is enough talent but now bringing it into a failing team (due to selectors being in bad patch for 7-8 years) will put additional pressure on the young guys.

Look at the list – Handscomb Bancroft Patterson Maddinson Lehmann Head Heazlett Renshaw Cartwright .. just to name a few. Talent unless given a chance will not improve and flourish

Rod marsh and co need to go .. simple as that. Captaincy to warner .. smithie does not seem to handle any sort of pressure

The Australian cricketing cupboard is bare

Dont try to mix the 2 don – MMarsh and Neville..When Nev got a bat he made it count with a match winning knock in the pink test..

Mitch Marsh needs to start scoring runs

Its frightening to see both Marshes in the batting order … always get a feeling that we are playing with 4 batsman and the wicket-keeper batsman..Imagine this batting lineup in NZ… 2 wickets for free lol

Burns does deserve a fair go in this team , either in the mid order or at the top.. We always complain about how a guy with a poor FC record gets a go in the test team sometime …here is guy with a good solid FC record – give him a fair run…Shaun was the last man in and should be the man to make way for Ussie…anyone remembers Brad Hodge ? Poor guy dropped after making 200 ..

The decision is simple for me … drop SMarsh for Uzzie , if you wanna play SMarsh drop MMarsh..MMarsh is a number 8 batsman at best at Test level for now..

The sooner we get rid of the “all-rounder is the most necessary thing” idea the better it will be for the team !!!

Sorry Shaun, but Usman and Joe took their chances first

Handscomb is a real good option .. also as someone said its a shame that Lynn is injured right now , he would have made a great selection

Also great shame that Head is not very consistent … else a debut on his home ground would have been almost a certainty for that precocious talent

Finally then it has to be Bancroft and he should be batting at 3 no matter if it is a dead rubber or a live one

Bancroft must replace injured Khawaja in Adelaide

Burns and Khawaja with tons while Marsh fails for the CA XI

Does this mean the Queensland duo is ahead in selection ranks now ? Particularly Burns.
But with SMarsh around you are never sure when he might sneak into the playing xi

What will be Australia's top six at the Gabba?

Form is temporary class is permanent…one bad Matador cup vs 2 solid shield seasons !! I would have Burns in at 5..

Warner
Bancroft but it will be Marsh
Khawaja
Smith
Burns
Mitch Marsh/Voges
Neville

Bancroft and Marsh edging out Burns for Test spot

Ron i think it would be wise to rest Starc as well…he probably has had the heaviest “workload” of all. Also does not make much point in taking Pattinson and Cummins . Both are just coming bacl from injury concerns , the worst they can do is get some stress fracture\muscle pull again in the hot subcontinent conditions.

I would actually have Siddle, Coulter-Nile and Sandhu in the squad , ask the pacers to keep it really tight and let the spinners rip at the other end. Lyon is a very tough customer to handle on spinning tracks from his recent past exploits

Resting Johnson and Hazlewood against Bangladesh a risky move
