No bigger fan of the Aussie cricket team in the world than me !!

Just feel he will get better and more consistent once MJ is done and he becomes the leader of the pack..

Is Mitchell Starc a Test bowler?

That is the thing to watch for me too..who opens Burns or Khawaja OR both play in the mids and a new opener is brought in..in india , with the A team khawaja actually opened with Banc .. may be thats some pointer

What we also desperately need is a Michael Hussey at 6..Neville has shown some grit in this series but there has been no #6 batsman who has stood up and resisted – well not that many have in this seies 🙂

Australia's glut of batsmen bodes well for the future

Did a piece sometime ago on this – http://www.theroar.com.au/2014/12/22/australias-test-batting-future-coming-together/

Given time and right guidance , there is a terrific lot of batsmen coming up in the near future for Australia. I think the next gen takes over from the upcoming home summer , that seems was always the plan by the selectors.

Who is Australia's next generation of batsmen?

The next batters are not a worry at all imo ..

Australia’s Test batting future coming together

Marsh joins race to replace Rogers as Test opener

Did a piece recently about how the batting future looks great and is coming together nicely – http://www.theroar.com.au/2014/12/22/australias-test-batting-future-coming-together/

Exciting times no doubt…we seemed to have found a leader in smith and with all this batting and bowling talent coming through, we look to be on the path of domination again. The missing piece is the performance in the subcontinent and i thought there were encouraging signs amongst the ruins in UAE. Smith, Warner and Mitch Marsh the younger of the top 6 were the ones who performed relatively well.

about 10-11 batsmen and 8-10 bowlers will be in a tussle for 6 batting and 4 bowling spots, that competition can only be healthy

Australia's under-24 Test XI makes the future look bright

The biggest CHICKEN i have ever seen..Mitch scared the daylights out of him and the coward gave up without a fight.
How come this “problem” , “stress” blah blah occured only after he was peppered with some seriously fast short stuff aimed at his head ? Things were going merry until the bowling dished out to him was all goodie goodie but as soon as it got serious – fast and short – the coward just ran away !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trott: Johnson not responsible for my Ashes departure

Now that you have started bear, here is something in detail about it – http://www.theroar.com.au/2014/07/28/future-aussie-batsmen-rise/

Don't pick Hughes in Tests - not yet

Think if a couple of smashers like Max or Finch can cement a test spot that will also be a really good thing

This is the future: Aussie batsmen on the rise

It is unbelievable how everybody conveniently forgets Joe Burns.. Of all the teams mentioned here, not one has him 🙂 I think he is a mighty fine long form batsman who should be the next in line for the test spot now..

The future of Australia's Test team

Coward !!! Nothing but coward….he had not seen in his life what Mitch dished out to him. That frightened the shit out of him and the coward just gave up..

This is the only truth , whether you like it or not..anything else is just a cooked up story !!! ECB should put a ban on Trott for abandoning the ship and his mates midway in the storm !!!!

Trott in the right but too many are in the wrong

Ron – no Handscomb and Kurtis Patterson ? Very good list though and i feel these players are gonna be seriously good once they make the test cut

Think we need 2-3 more years probably for the guys you have listed to properly come through..and i hope that guys like Doolan,Marsh,Khawaja, Hughes may be will fill in for those 2-3 years, when these guys will join Warner and Smith.

Some batters in the recent U-19 world cup are also gonna be really good.

Ranking Australia's prospective Test batsmen (Part 2)

Good article and reasoning behind it Ronan. IMO it would be only a 14-15 member squad though with 1 reserve batsman apart from the current 6 and 2 reserve quicks. +1 reserve keeper (maybe).

But you are right , guys like Lynn , Maddo , Burns, Silk , Head should be given enough exposure to all conditions. I would not take them to SAF now though, would just let them play in the Shield rather than them warming the bench in Protea land. I think the exposure would come for them through more A tours. Now that we have some sort of stability in the batting lineup i.e. some time on hand , IMO let these young batsmen pile on some more runs in the Shield.

One curious thing – How come Burns is behind in your queue ? He has been the most consistent of the young batsmen in the last 2-3 seasons

Also bang on about Hugehs and Khawaja – they will never play now unless they improve on the mental front dramatically. To be honest i dont see that happening. Sad that 2 wonderful talents will be lost because they are just not strong enough to handle the pressure

Lynn, Maddinson and Sayers should tour South Africa

Seems certain now that it will be Doolan

Who should be the reserve batsman for the South African tour?

Ron – What about Hazlewood ? IMO he can be useful on those SAF pitches with his height !!

Young Aussie quicks on the comeback trail

Good times for Aussie cricket might just be coming back.. Consider this –

1. Bowling
We already have a stackful of pace bowlers apart from the 3 musketeers of this Ashes series – Patto , Starc , Cummins , Bird , Hazlewood , NCN , Sayers. Lyon seems to have cemented his long term place now, though there are others that might break through like Agar, Zampa and Boyce

2. Keeping
Now that Haddin seems to have settled his spot for the short to medium term, the battle of the keepers can go on in the Shield so that we have more clarity than what we have now regarding the next test keeper

3. Batting
Think there is heaps of talent here , just look at the list –
Doolan, Burns, Maddinson, Lynn , Head, Silk, Handscomb,Kurtis Patterson, Carters, Mitch Marsh, Whiteman, Marcus Harris

What this series win has done is that it has brought a sense of stability to the side and has bought us a couple of years where the above names can gain in experience and stature playing in the shield. If we would have lost they would have been rushed in the side which would be of no good to them.

Head leads Australian cricket's next gen

Interesting who the reserve 7th batsman is going to be on the tour to SAF

Predicting the 2015 Ashes sides

Ron , I can see that 2 years have passed and Faulkner is still the 12th Man..poor fellla 🙂 🙂

Predicting the 2015 Ashes sides

Plain and simply put, the guy is chickening out of the tour !!! Interested to see how many Poms fly back after the WACA test 🙂

Jokes apart, when are Patto and Bird expected back, especially Patto. We need to have a similar backup ready for Mitch, though he looks fit and strong just at the moment. Shame that Pattinson , Cummins and Starc are injured right now..though someone like Cutting or Coulter-Nile with a sharpish bouncer could also be the man somewhere down the line in the series..

Trott out of Ashes with stress-illness but Warner not to blame

its been utterly satisfying so far – the FC season

Lynn with a 100 and 2 50
Dools with a 100 and a 50
Handscomb with 2 50+
Jordan Silk with a 100
Cossie getting a 70+
Marcus Harris witha 60+
Steven Smith and David Warner getting tons today
Travis Head getiting off to a start in all innings (the guy needs to start nailing down the starts)

Need Joe Burns and Nic Maddinson to fire soon…exctiting times indeed
Just an excample of how the “result pitches” killed the potential young batsmen in recent years

Sheffield Shield fails to answer the big selection questions

Another option would be to pick 4 fast bowlers – that way you can nurse Harris a bit..Smith and Pup would then have to combine to be the 5th bowler…

No way IMO that Haddin should play at 6… he looked lost even on the Indian belters … Gabba is going to be too much for thim

Why Faulkner should replace Watson at Brisbane

“Champions Trophy, on sporty pitches” .. what champions trophy have you been watching mate ? all the champions trophy + Ashes pitches combined , there was NO sporty pitch ..no semblence of bounce or movement 🙂

India vs Australia: Seventh ODI - International cricket live scores

look closely at his figures though…13 of the 17 100s are in Asia (on flat roads)…hardly played any test cricket away from home….is a big frontfooter who has played almost all his career in the subcontinent….His real test is coming up…any judgement now will not be fair..
Sachin started in Pak away , Nz away , Eng Away and Oz away at the start of his career…and that IMO contributed in making him a legend..coz he was utterly good away from home also

Is Virat Kohli the next legend of the game?

tossing buns !!! LOL !!!!

Who is Australia's next gloveman?

Really good article Tim…very well analyzed and put …Think there are many more also to watch out for…may be not this year but the next 2-3 years. Guys like –

Silk , Maddo, Burns and Doolan (all of whom could be playing for Oz in near term)
Lynn, Patterson , Handscomb, Harris,Travis Head (will need 2-3 good seasons)
Bosisto, Jaron Morgan, Jake Doran,Damien Mortimer, Sean Willis(good U-19 prospects and look good for top level cricket)

Exciting times for sure…since guys like Finch, Bailey, Khawaja, Hughes are and hopefully Ferguson and Marsh will put their hands up for highest honours..

Six batsmen to look for in the Sheffield Shield

Personally I think the selectors will not select anything close to a strong “A” side…they will not weaken the Shield teams for the sake of this game..

Unbelievable how few times the name of JOE BURNS is mentioned….he is the best young talent along with Silk and Maddo of the young lot.. IMO the real A team would be siomething like :

Silk
Handscomb
Doolan
Burns
Maddinson
Patterson
Lynn
4 bowlers

Very interested in the progress of Travis Head.Marcus Harris, William Bosisto and U-19 batsmen Jake Doran and Jaron Morgan( whio played well in the Futures League recently)

Exciting times these in Aussie cricket as i am sure a future dominating side will get built up in a few years

Who could line up for Australia A this summer?
