Shame there seems to be an inability or an unwillingness to recognise bigoted comment towards “deeply committed Christians”, but a lot of sensitivity (rightfully) shown for the LGBT community, even in this forum alone.

I agree with you in principle, but how do you decide what is and what is not inclusive things that one can or cannot say? There is a conflict of values here, some of which are impossible to re-conciliate, particularly between the Abrahamic religions and the LGBT community.

Milan wrote “hell awaits you both”, similar to Israel Folau’s post “hell awaits you”, but to anyone who reads them in their context, one of them is silly but appears genuine in saving the sinners and the other is malicious and opprobrious.

Without scrums, rugby union is no different than league. Why can’t there be close-up videos of scrum battles? The rest of the game is increasingly boring, and a little “reality TV” of big ugly men irritating each other and inflicting violence under the guise of sports makes more compelling television.

I was one of many who wanted Folau sacked when I read he made homophobic statements. Then in the last week, more balanced articles came out. Dawn Grace-Cohen, a long time gay activitist, a lesbian, clinical psychologist wrote that silencing Folau betrays the same sex marriage victory, and I’m inclined to agree. In my opinion, it drive the people with moderate views to choose a side, and it has been framed as homphobia versus freedom of speech/religion, and I think the topic is more nuanced. Today, a work colleague facebooked Folau’s post, stating if anyone wants to lose their job, “like this”. There were quite a few “likes”, but I’m guessing they are “liking” his post rather than Folau’s. It was the first time I have actually read Folau’s post, and I struggle to understand why it has been perceived as “homophobic” or at least why it has attracted such initial condemnation. Seems to me to be proselyting. I find the presentation and colours of the meme more offensive than the message itself. I “liked” it – let’s see if I have a job tomorrow.
