I make up supporting Bangladesh and WSW by supporting Arsenal. All aboard the Arteta express. Cricket, league and football fanatic.

There’s a fear of demerit points for excessive turners + Rajkot is traditionally a flat pitch in all forms of cricket played there. Jadeja running out Sarfaraz stopped India from getting 500+. Unless Rohit shows some proactiveness as skipper, India may even concede an innings defeat with Ashwin not available for the Test now.

Ashwin out of Test after reaching major milestone as Duckett's Bazball blitz gives England a fighting chance

Rauf literally struggles to bowl in ODI cricket without breaking down. How do the PCB expect him to suddenly play Test cricket? He’s played less than 10 FC matches in his career for a reason. No one in PCB supported him when he was at a Lahore Qalandar’s camp where Aqib Javed scouted him. It was the BBL that probably made the Pakistan selectors realise they’ve got a good bowler. Sure terminate his contract but to stop NOC’s is going to become messy situation. Players shouldn’t be punished for the lifestyle they want in cricket

Pakistan come down hard on Star bowler after choosing BBL over Test duty: 'A material violation of his contract'

Jadeja barbecuing Sarfaraz has probably cost India a chance of getting 500+. Looks so good against spin on debut. Despite the inexperience in the Indian top seven, they’re still doing well. First hour of day two could dictate the Test.

Tons of fun for Sharma and Jadeja as India bludgeon England on dramatic day after top-order collapse

Katoa has to play. Let him organize while Nikorima is the one being the chance creator. Unfortunately for SOS, either he comes off the bench as a utility or he has to force his way back in with strong Q Cup performances

Katoa v Kodi v SOS: What if the best halves pair Wayne Bennett has isn't the best one for 2024?

Absolutely it does. 450+ runs in T20I games at a SR close to 160 in the past 24 months. The bigger issue is why Smith when he’s a passenger in the shortest format?

Aussies drop biggest hint yet on T20 World Cup captaincy as big guns return to squad for New Zealand tour

My understanding of Tamil isn’t perfect, but I’m pretty sure Ashwin swore at Bairstow in Tamil after he got dismissed. Either that or I was hearing things. Great performance from Bumrah who was the real difference between the two sides.

Mike any idea on Timber return date? Because I am getting tired of seeing Zinchenko defend. Arteta needed to sub on Kiwior for Zinny the minute it became 2-0. Tomiyasu coming back post Asian Cup will strengthen the side defensively. Don’t think we’ll win the league, but good signs for UCL knockouts

Arsenal keep pace but only after Forest scare, minnows thump hipster favourites to exit drop zone

I thought Sinner got some momentum late in the second set by winning two games in a row to get some confidence and extend the second set for another 10-15 mins. Then he just kicked on and Medvedev got fatigued as the game went on. Well done Sinner. Leichardt will be going nuts

Slight correction with the pink ball Test in India first being played against Bangladesh, not Sri Lanka in Kolkata 2019. Test barely got to the first session of day three but that was more due to the gap in quality between the two sides. I don’t think there’s been a single pink ball round played at Ranji Trophy level, with the only domestic red ball games there being played in Irani Cup or Duleep Trophy.

Day-night Tests make dollars and sense but India’s reluctance means pink ball snookered by red

This is where NZC do well. They’ve hosted Bangladesh four times in Test series since the beginning of 2010. Bangladesh got slapped up almost every game. But they slowly got better at playing in New Zealand conditions and drew 1 all on their last Test tour of New Zealand. If you don’t consistently give other teams a go, they will not suddenly get better, especially for the new Test playing nations.

Australia play nearly half their Tests against England and India - to save the game, that needs to change

Nice article Harry. I agree with all your selections bar Yengi. For me, I’d rather have Fornaroli start over Duke against teams that will set a low block against us. While I’m happy with the two clean sheets, it is worrying at how stubborn we’ve been in the tournament. It was blatantly obvious that our opponents in the first two matchdays would park the bus against us. And yet, we ended up playing into their hands with the long ball and go wide rubbish.

With place in round of 16 secure, Graham Arnold needs to swing his axe

Kiwior is comfortable at CB and should slot in for Gabriel Maghales. Jorginho or ESR for Rice. Forest away next so won’t be easy

Despite boasting some great T20 numbers, Gayle would be remembered for his Test exploits.

2 Test hundreds in RSA
105 at the Oval
197 at Napier
2 Test hundreds in Australia including an entertaining one at the WACA
2 triple hundreds with a career best of 333

West Indies playing for their future as a legitimate Test nation with memory fading of long lost Calypso glory days

I’m sorry but since when was Chris Gayle a T20 specialist? He played 103 Tests for the West Indies with 15 hundreds and 37 fifties. He would’ve played more had CWI not screwed over their players.

In the most polite way possible, nowhere near Pant. Plenty of blind slogging/lack of footwork and the only reason he’s played so many games for India is due to him playing for Mumbai in the IPL. I would see either Rahul keeping or a young kid by the name of Dhruv Jurel as keeper. Good keeper and a handy bat. Plays fast bowling well and when he accelerates, hard to stop him. Got named in the Test squad against England for the first few Tests.

The invisible pacemen: Wild Thing beware - a generation of fast bowlers denied Test caps by record-breaking trio

The first thing for Pant is to play some domestic cricket first. He hasn’t even played a club game yet. India have to tread carefully with him as he’s still not fit to keep yet. India may have to come to Australia without him and play the long game rather than risk it with him. Gonna be a huge loss should he not come to Australia, but for the long term it’s better.

The invisible pacemen: Wild Thing beware - a generation of fast bowlers denied Test caps by record-breaking trio

South Africa have a weaker batting lineup + that was on a terrible pitch where the ball was keeping low in the fourth session of a Test. That Test win was the first time India took 20 wickets in a SENA Test after failing to do so for five Tests in a row. How Mhambrey has kept his job for so long is a mystery. Bumrah and Siraj are key as Shami just keeps on getting niggles here and there so him being 100% fit is unlikely.

The invisible pacemen: Wild Thing beware - a generation of fast bowlers denied Test caps by record-breaking trio

With Paras Mhambrey as bowling coach, India will lose 4-1. Their quicks have gone downhill since Bharat Arun wasn’t given an extension. Plus, the last two series was under a temporary captain. Cummins is a far better skipper + actually stays composed under pressure

There’s probably three factors that caused Bailey and the selectors to go with Renshaw

1. Renshaw has a Test century unlike Bancroft and Harris
2. Bancroft averages 34 in County Cricket after 62 innings with three hundreds. Renshaw averages 44 in 30 innings in County cricket with five hundreds
3. Bancroft didn’t convert his start into a century vs Pakistan in the PM XI game. Renshaw did.

Can’t include Rohit at all. Been absolutely rubbish in T20 WC’s and hasn’t lit up the IPL since 2016

Warner is an all-time great - but he’s not Australia’s best ever multi-format player

2 takeaways

1. Rizwan is a good actor. Bloke has even admitted he fakes his cramps. So not surprised he was acting surprised after the call

2. I would love to see a pace trio of Rabada, Cummins and Bumrah play in a red ball game together. Would be so pleasing on the eye to see

Great win Australia

Josh is unavailable for most of the tournament due to family reasons so teams didn’t bid. Good to see Smith get unsold in the first round because it’s pure arrogance if he thinks that his base price is 2 crores after having so many poor IPL tournaments.
