Enjoyed the game. It was a contest for much of it and the way Pakistan is improving, the third gamem should be a ripper. However, two areas whwere Pakistan must improve to really make it a game is theirm catching (some great catches in the second test togetjher with spilling some dollies) and keeping the extras down, 52 in the Aus first innings. 52 extras out od a total of 318 is poor.

Who'd have thunk it? Pakistan gave us our first proper fight at home in years and left us wanting more

I had read elsewhere that both Green and Marsh would prefer not to open, a specialist opener is what is required. A toss up between Bancroft and Renshaw with maybe Renshaw for the longer term.

Totally agree with Malinauskas here. First three day of the test are weekdays meaning people have to take time off from work. This will see low crowds. Looks like all for the tv dollar.

Appeal knocked back now the onus is on the ICC to ensure thgere are no messages on bats, pads, boots, etc otherwise they will have a lot of exoplaining to do.

The Moose was a rugby second rower though he played prop in league. Union prop was not an easy one to tyake to league. O’Connor was a union centre so I( would have Cleary on the wing not him.

The league-union versatility: A 13-man team of the best Australian dual code representatives

I don’t think that is the issue. The cricket boards don’t care about test cricket. The money comes from various T20 cmpetitions is what they are after. Look at the test squad SA is sending to NZ. The top Saffas are staying home to play in their T20 comp.

Gap's never been wider between cricket’s Big Three haves and the have-nots ... and it’s only getting worse

Sadly, I agree. I hope he does well but realistically hje needs game time not training. Will they risk him in club footy?

As young stars switch places, are 'Marky' and 'Joey' a chance to be 'All-Australian' rugby dual internationals?

At the moment, Marky Mark is halfway there already being a Wallaby now to get a Roos jersey. Yes Sua’ali’i has played for Samoa in rugby league but with the likes of Jorgenson, Petaia, Wright, Kellaway, Koroibete he will have a job ahead of him.

Another one that could have been looked at was Kevin Yow Yeh’s try against Souths, 1966. Souths leading 8-7 with the cliock ticking down when Bolton went for what he hoped was the match winning field goal. Everyone (bar one player) watched the ball sail just wide. The one player, Yow Yeh grabbing the ball and scoring. Barnes converted for a 12-8 win to the Tigers.

Quite right and it has to be sdriven by Wests. Thety have 75% ownership, the board is 5 Wests, 2 Balmain and 2 independents. First move should be to forget Leichhardt Oval, maybe one game a year there. Play all (but one) home games at Campbelltown. Forget Commbank Stadium.Curent jerseys seem to be more Balmain aligned than West.

Maybe before the scrum laws were changed but not now. I think Kevin Ryan was thed last rugby prop to do well in league and that is going back a long way.

Of the three who were selec tedf for the PM II, Renshaw has runs on the boartd ansd is younger than the other two. Because of lack of first class games for the test batting lineup, it will probably stay the same for the first test. Will the selectors change the lineup for any failures, pronanly not, at least for the first test. Maybe changes after the second test but then by then, no first class cricket for a month prior to the end of the second test.

‘A walking wicket for two years’: Another old Warner teammate questions whether opener should get Test farewell

Agree that we should do more but CA’s broadcasting deals hamper this. BBL from the first week in December until near the end of January. Apart from tests here, no FRC cricket over this period. Big CA money spinners are ther Boxingt Day and New Years tests. Been this way since the early 80s. and this does have its drawbacks. SA won’t tour over our holiday period unless they get some respricocity, Kiwis the same.

Do Australians love Test cricket or just watching the baggy green side win at home pretty much all the time?

Wouldn’t say they botched it. Before the game they were saying it was a three way play off for the position between Bancroft, Harris and Renshaw. Harris got 49, Bancroft 53 and Renshaw is not out 68 in a slow innings. So no way could you say they all botched it.

Opening contenders botch golden chance to press Test selection claims but Harris bullish about replacing Warner

This coddling of players is getting ridiculous. Look at Green, not a ball bowled in 116 overs.

Easy. Both umpires, reraserve umpire , viodeo umpire and match referee all from the home nation.

No issues with May’s batting. Oner of England’s best. A successful captain but much of his opposition was average, good series against the Saffas but against Australia, Away from Manchester 1956, they were not great going down in Aus 4-0 and in England 2-1. I think Root or Ponting would be better.

Team of the Month: A December-born World Cricket XI

Not sure on May’s captaincy. Ponting or Root shouyld have the “c” against their name.

Good side but I would play Mooney on the wing with Irvine. O’Connor played most of his club football as a centre but played wing in rep games so centre ios where he should be looked at.

Eight-time premiers: Who makes Manly’s greatest-ever team of grand-final winners?

I do like the idea of a shot clock for time between overs. Sadly, very easy to get around. A team has to be ready to bowl the over in 60 seconds. Fine, bowl one ball then do the changesd and talking to bowlers and fielders. An alternative which has been tried is that if a side goes over the time limit in bowling their overs, say the last three overs are past the time for change of innings, the team then loses those opvers when batting i.e. they only get 47 overs. Only works thoughif the team bowling first is too slow.

Shot clock could be great for cricket - if teams aren’t allowed to exploit new rule like the latest pitch shenanigans

I can see the safety aspects of changing the goal posts. I’m assuming that the single post on the dead ball line goes so high before it bends to horizontally to the try line where the two posts go up. Structurally, will the horizontal bar be able to be able to extendf from the dead ball line to the try line. Will it be able to hold the uprights the maximum of 16 metres (less the distance from ground level to the horizontal bar). I don’t know if this will be feasible.
