Tolstoy should get a shared byline on this marvellous piece, Harry. Got me all excited for the weekend action. Such a shame the Brums have to play tonight, not least cos I’ll still be at work in Melbourne.

A battle of the ballers and a muck the ruck, slash the tyres scrap to decide who makes the Super Rugby final two

When it comes to PR, RA are dolts – truly! The Rebels’ axing was another drawn-out exercise in excruciating optics, this one’s just a gimme they walk past, and the less said about what Eddie Jones and Hamish McPuff-Face got away with the better.

I’d read a Ben Pobjie article on rugby every day. Clearly, he just needs to be paid to do so. Over to you, Roar bean counters!

Act of mindless brawn and baffling subtlety that will decide the Brumbies' fate

World club rugby power rankings: How Super Rugby's best teams compare with the northern giants

I was a big fan of Hoiles as a player. Clever, honest, rangy like an old-fashioned No. 8 (reminded me a bit of Ron Coote) and personable (I met him once at a Clovelly junior club event). He was a bit too small to make much of an impact as a Wallaby but seems to be blossoming into one of those intelligent but less successful former players who make excellent coaches. But … but … BUT! While he’s going well at Randwick, any idea of appointing him as Waratahs coach is just nuts. It’s too early in his coaching career. Do they want to repeat the DC experiment and waste good talent by promoting him way beyond his experience level? Let him be an assistant in SRP or go overseas for a few years to upskill, he’s still young.

And is he still Nobody?

'Last few years have been hell': Iceman 2.0 Harrison gets 'dream come true' in Tahs' stunning golden point win

Great game. Congrats to the Tahs – my team – but equally to the Saders on a massive game. Both squads obviously picking themselves off the floor, each brought their full armoury to this game. A draw would have been the fairest result but I admit the golden point moments were thrilling – if only cos we won! But also because Will Harrison added such magic moments to the Tahs’ legend on their anniversary game. 😁 😁 😁 🏉 🏉 🏉

Well said.

'Curse the money all you want' but RA must work out what it wants from Super Rugby - otherwise the game is doomed

I agree about attempted intercepts. If the hand movement is clearly downward, then it’s deliberate and maybe worth a Yellow if in the 22. Otherwise, play the knock-on or just penalise. Flat passes have long been adjudicated by determining the direction of the passer’s hands at point of release. Same principle should apply to intercepts.

Is there a vacancy at RA for a strategic COO? 😛

Thanks for the well-researched insights, Harry. You make a compelling case.

This Tahs fan was thinking just this morning (again) that a Waratah is the worst footy emblem I’ve ever encountered. I mean, how many tough flowers have you encountered?
