Very impressive but with a few caveats : this is the midweek team after all and the opposition was very depleted. Plus they’d have liked to score a few more maybe, still haven’t gotten more than 40 points on tour in a match. They’d have liked to get this sort of cohesion a bit earlier in the tour but they’ll take what they get.
Pretty sure they’re going to churn out proper Warrenball on Saturday – will be interesting to see how it pans out.

Yep they pretty much were in control. They just don’t have the attacking flair to polish them off. Could have gone in at 20-3 but the Chiefs sacked their lineout drive a metre from the line and then Biggar high tackled Sanders. Chiefs got out of jail.

How did the Lions contrive to lose this match? Bit of a choke really, but great stuff from the Highlanders with those two amazing efforts from the forward pack for the try and the winning penalty.
Daly tried to bite off more than he could chew. Should have gone for the corner and then built the phases. If nothing else would have worked they could have tried the drop goal.

Great wrap as always. The Lions tour really needed that, didn’t it? Now if only they keep this up against the ‘Landers and the Maori.
I didn’t watch the Hurricanes’ match but those points are interesting. Is Barrett really under any threat to lose his starting spot? Surely not, right? And also, I expect Crotty and Lienert-Brown to start in the centres anyway, so ALB’s performance on Friday will have only strengthened his position.
The Wrap: Sun shines on Wallabies and Lions
I’d say out of this side, Stander has the best chance of actually getting a bench spot, and perhaps even a starting berth if O’Mahony or Faletau get injured. Henshaw too looks good but yeah it’s a shame he’s being used as a battering ram to play Warrenball.
I just hope they do allow the Lions to play a bit more expansively but I’m not certain it will happen. Plus, even without their internationals the Highlanders won’t be pushovers by any means.
