Bakkies, I think there’s a very significant difference between a hit & roll or saddle roll technique employed by support players at the breakdown and the turtle position that Leaguies spend so much time practising

I think the more meaningful game may have been Sale v St Helens in 2003, 41-39 to the former. My memory of the Bath v Wigan game is of Deryk Bevan (?) posturing his way about the place and smashing the Leaguies in the penalty count 🙂

I think that’s the key point, one I didn’t communicate that effectively. The Rugby League air is thick with hyperbole and if a match up does nothing else it will explode the myth of athletic superiority and kill the constant nitpicking.

Fair call David, but I’m thinking in terms of how well elite Rugby teams use the set piece opportunity. Watching Kurtley drift across field these last three Tests does not support my proposition, granted 🙂

Sevens is a sophisticated game these days and the notion of picking NRL players won’t work on several fronts, not the least of which will be their ability to defend a space and then use the space in attack. League used to run Sevens tournaments pre season. It was dreadful footy, they were clueless
