I think Fletcher might just end up being a coup for Sunderland. I still wouldn’t call it cheap but given their desperation for a striker, you can forgive them for overpaying a little.
Fletcher scored 12 goals last season for a dreadful Wolverhampton side, and I’m a Wolves fan. With McLean and Larsson delivering to him from out wide, I can see him as a 15+ goals a season player and all teams want a striker with that kind of record.
EPL 2012-13 Preview - Liverpool
I think the best idea is here. Quade Cooper certainly has his failings but I think Cooper can take this side further than Barnes is capable of. Cooper has been at the centre point of this side during their best run of rugby in the past 7-8 years.
Who will wear the 10 for the Wallabies?
Questionable suspension for Suarez? I won’t even go into that.
I think you are being overly optimistic about Liverpool. To get into the Top 4, they are going to need place ahead of two of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham at least, not forgetting the challenge of the rejuvenated Newcastle. I don’t think they showed enough potential last year to indicate they were close to beating out those teams and making it into a Champions League place. I hope they do well under Rogers and he brings about a new culture and is given time, but this year is too soon still.
I personally hope they don’t sign Allen. He’s a decent player, but certainly not worth £15 million and probably needs another good season in the premier league to prove his stature. Liverpool also have a talented young centre midfield in the shape of Shelvey, who could provide that box to box midfield player they love at Anfield. I watched him against Roma at Fenway Park and he was the best player for Liverpool on that pitch. I can see Rogers playing a three man midfield with Liverpool, and Shelvey could shine next to Lucas and Gerrard. I also like Adam and hope that he is given more of a chance.
EPL 2012-13 Preview - Liverpool
They are separate countries, why should they join together? It’s like in soccer, Australia and New Zealand are still both small countries, why don’t they join together just because they happen to be close to each other?
Is Tuivasa-Sheck a Kiwi or Blue?
I still think both were a level below. Kewell could have come close if he had signed for United rather than going to Liverpool or maybe at least cutting his hair and not having that silly pony tail 😉
Why Australia has never produced a great number 10
“Players such as Kewell, Viduka, Johnston, Grella, Emerton and Neill are all (or have been) world-class players. Of this, there is no doubt.”
I’m sorry, but there is plenty of doubt there. I don’t want to down their abilities, as they were all fine players but I think you are certainly being liberal with the term world class.
Onto the subject of the lack of No.10s, do young kids play much street/park football in Australia? You know, by themselves with no coaches around?
Why Australia has never produced a great number 10
Exactly and that is the punishment for breaking the laws of the game. You let down your team.
Replacements for red card offences?
It’s a team sport. If you do something wrong, it will impact on the whole team. If you do something good, it will impact the whole team. That’s the idea of a red card. It’s the ultimate deterrent.
Replacements for red card offences?
The Sharks were fantastic and seemed to figure out the Reds and exploited that perfectly. In the first half, when they did the large part of their attacking, the attacked the wide channels with their incredibly mobile pack. I thought Coetzee was excellent in this facet of the game.
Crotty has been a player I’ve liked since he came onto the scene for Canterbury. He is a player with a low centre of gravity who does the basics very well like most Cantabs.
Cream always finds its way to the top
I would have thought the Rebels could really do with a player like Jenkins. No?
Hooper doesn't regret Waratahs switch
Wasn’t Tuqiri selected for Australia in his first year back in League? I think if it wasn’t for bad fortune with injuries, he’d still be at that level.
CAMPO: Time to get the league influence out of union
Pretty simple addition to the mail thing is the ball must move to the back once each player engages.
Rugby rules can't afford more band-aid solutions
I’m not trying to devalue scrums. I am actually trying to make them relevant and work again.

Be interesting to see how Auelua goes and to what degree he will have to fit in with the Brumbies gameplan or how the gameplan will be tailored to suit his style of play.
Also, by the end of his time at Toulon, they were loaded with top class back rowers, so he ended up in midfield so it shows this guy has some real footballing skills and quite a bit of pace once he gets to build up some momentum.
Brumbies call up colossus to face Rebels
An Irish man in a real university? Especially one from the deepest darkest south west? Not a chance.
Why an Irishman deems NRL the world's best comp to follow
As far as I can, I will do. I see we have Australia in Thomond Park in my home of Limerick, so I think if I’m around I’ll definitely go along to see some of the players I only ever get to see over YouTube.
Why an Irishman deems NRL the world's best comp to follow
Cheers. And don’t worry Kovana, I still think Union is better to watch.
Why an Irishman deems NRL the world's best comp to follow
I do watch the Super League but only the highlights package on the iPlayer as it’s all on pay-per-view. Thought next year, I will have Sky Sports so be able to watch a bit more.
It’s been a cracking start to the season with big swings already between all the top sides going through patches.
I’m a Wigan fan but I’d love to see Catalans do the business. They probably play the best Rugby League to watch in the world and their win against St. Helens has to be the best end to a game I’ve seen.

And there’s still Gill as well up in Queensland who looks the best of the lot and the one who could potentially challenge Pocock for the 7 jersey.

Ah forget about Bolt and Rudisha, Katie Taylor’s gold medal in the women’s boxing was the moment of the day. Certainly the best atmosphere so far in the games.
