Completely agree – I see your XI as the best one from the squad mention. Wouldn’t have minded seeing Harris in there too ahead of Cummins if he’d been selected in the squad.

The Aussie XI that will win it all

1 – Lyon, 2 – Ahmed and 3 – O’Keefe for me.

Fawad Ahmed should be Australia's next Test spinner

Of course I don’t need your agreement! If I did why would I post such a different team, with different reserves? I definitely would have picked Shaun Marsh if that was the case.

The fact you’ve entirely changed – from your arrogant first comment to now acceptance – shows that maybe if you just listened and tried processing what people have to say you’d understand more. Shaun Marsh isn’t the God you think he is.

Does Adam Voges' double century put him in Ashes contention?

The two Perth boys have to be right QW. Let them win.. although form isn’t the only thing that is important in the selection of a player and any half-decent cricket supporter would understand this, it seems that pair are struggling to grasp this simple yet vital piece of knowledge.

Love that you are willing to bag someone’s team and then not accept justification for why they picked who they did. The attachment simply outlines the fact that Harris, 35, will be playing in the Ashes purely because he is in our best pace attack – age and body irrelevant as long as he can run up and release the red leather.

My reading of Marsh is by the statistics only. Your reading of Marsh is by his potential and how he plays his cricket. Sadly, this does not matter when he is 31 and hasn’t made much of his immense talent.

What you said about O’Keefe doesn’t convince me whatsoever about how he is in any way a better bowler than anyone else in the country as per your claim in your first comment?

In short Don, your views are narrow-minded and your stubborn personality only makes this worse. I’m only giving you the facts which you are struggling to handle.

Regarding Ryan Harris, please read this – http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-02-02/ryan-harris-rested-from-sheffield-shield/6063734. If you don’t think he is in Australia’s best 11, you’re insane.

Chris Rogers has done a fantastic job in his short time as Australian opener, there is no disputing that. Since the India series he has had four innings in Shield for – 7, 69, 3, 10. Obviously there is only one innings of substance in there, however when you’re opening the batting you’re not going to make runs every time you step on the field. No one ever has. It’s quite strange that after three poor innings, that weren’t even in a row, you would want to drop someone who just had a great series with the bat for Australia.

I never mentioned a ‘squad’ anywhere, I just simply mentioned who I would have second in line for each position in the team. This is why Nevill’s name is in there.

Look at O’Keefe’s record, then look at the other spinners – Agar in particular. These two, in my opinion would be the ones competing for a spot as second spinner. Agar has so much learning to do and after one good match against a poor South Australia I wouldn’t say he is the 2nd best spinner in the country. Look at the rest of his 2014/15 season in first-class cricket. O’Keefe, on the other hand is doing well and his record is superb – averaging under 25 with 152 wickets. Good form with the bat and ball, ready for another chance.

The fact is that Shaun Marsh isn’t batting 3 or 4, so isn’t making those runs that you say he’d ‘probably’ be making. Has had so many chances for Australia. When he is on he is very good, but his consistency needs improvement. Voges and Klinger have had great careers and deserve a chance to showcase their talents.

Happy with my explanations?

And why is that Don?

Does Adam Voges' double century put him in Ashes contention?

If I had to pick my best Australian Test XI today, whether that be for the West Indies or England tour, it would be like this…

1. Warner
2. Rogers
3. Burns
4. Smith
5. Clarke
6. M. Marsh
7. Haddin
8. Johnson
9. Harris
10. Hazlewood
11. Lyon

I’d have Voges as the reserve batsman ahead of Shaun Marsh and Shane Watson. Starc as reserve quick, Nevill as reserve keeper, Watson as reserve all rounder and O’Keefe as reserve spinner.

Totally agree with this. My best Australian 11 for this World Cup would be – Warner, Finch, Smith, Clarke, Maxwell, M. Marsh, Faulkner, Haddin, Starc, Johnson, Lyon. This team still has the batting firepower with Haddin at 8, but the bowling stocks are bolstered with Lyon, Johnson and Starc the specialists, and Mitchell Marsh, James Faulkner and Glenn Maxwell the others who can bowl, and bowl well.

Harris and Lyon: The forgotten men of the Cricket World Cup

Great article! Starc 6fa today, bowling brilliantly. Can’t wait to see how he goes in the WC. Peaking at the right time!

Shane Warne did Mitchell Starc a big favour

It’s hard to pick this team with so many uncertainties. But I’ll have a crack, assuming that Haddin/Rogers/Harris are all retired. The top 6 would hopefully look like – 1. Warner 2. Cowan 3. Watson 4. Smith 5. Clarke 6. A young batsman from Sheffield Shield ie Burns, Handscomb, Silk, etc. The wicket-keeping position should go to either Nevill or Ludeman depending on their form. I’ll say that Lyon and Johnson will certainly be there but as for the other 2 fast bowlers it could go to anyone from Faulkner, Pattinson, Cummins, Hazlewood, Starc, Behrendorff, Sandhu, Sayers, Bird or Coulter-Nile so I’m not even going to try picking those two. Australia’s future looks bright.

Who will wear the baggy green post-Ashes?

Agreed too

Can you pick a better World Cup squad?
