we were taught at uni that journalists are supposed to have thick skins…azzopardi goes crying off to mama because the big boys said garbage words. pfft.

Journalists should allow players Mad Monday privacy

You’re right, footy stories should never take the lead in a news bulletin.

In Melbourne it’s “Mick Malthouse sneezes, farts – full details at 6”

I don’t want to live in a city like that.

Channel Nine shows its true colours

the players shouldn’t have taken the bait and you’re right, @eaglejack, no grown man should ever say something so obscene to a woman.

however, @bigdog2 – i love your ideals that news services should broadcast stories of real substance and importance. The trouble is, commercial news these days isn’t about reporting real issues, it’s about providing entertainment as a lead in to the network’s nightly programming schedule.

commercial news is set up to make viewers feel like everyone else is to blame for how horrible the world is (terrorists, dole bludgers, boat people, bulldogs supporters etc). it’s not fair, but that’s the media for you.

Agree with you there Rabbitz. RLW is a private enterprise, so however they choose to go about the selection process, marketing and so on, is totally their business. Whether the public views the immortals concept as the highest of honours or just a stuffy old boys club, I’m sure the magazine will still be chuffed either way, because their brand is mentioned over and over again.

You have to admit, it’s quite a gathering of talent. Difficult to dispute they’re some of the game’s greatest.

What does the Immortals title really mean?

Well you have nothing to worry about, judging by the current crop of players in the NRL (and the recently retired Lockyer), there will be plenty of Queenslanders among the next generation of immortals.

Johns drives wedge between Immortals and Hall of Fame

In your rant, Oiks, still a complete failure to recognise Johns as an extremely classy player.

Your inability to see the other side of the argument, weakens your own.

Johns drives wedge between Immortals and Hall of Fame

After watching the marathon interview on the Footy Show last night, I really wonder what it is about these Hasler and Bellamy that is so inspiring. They’re uncomfortable in the spotlight, and they aren’t the greatest orators around.

But behind closed doors in the dressing sheds, they must have an ability to inspire men to greatness.

Looking forward to the GF on Sunday.

Hasler, Bellamy: a sheriff showdown in the Wild West

this package that they played on the footy show last night is just spine tingling…what a great player

regardless of your state allegiance, you have to recognise the genius he was on field.

Gee I miss Boots and All…and Vossy. sigh.

Anyway…you’re right, maybe the answer isn’t necessarily in a parade. But an annual event, at the same time, at the same place, would be a great start.

I was living in Melbourne during the 2010 GF, and the event at the Opera House looked sensational. Having two Sydney teams in the GF helped…but a recurring event in the city might just be the answer.

Is Sydney too important for a Grand Final Parade?

Is Queensland really that upset about Johns’ accolade? Or is the media just stirring?

Surely most Queenslanders recognise just how great a player Joey was…surely.

Johns drives wedge between Immortals and Hall of Fame

Will they do an Andrew Johns bottle of Penfolds wine? Or will it be an Andrew Johns ecstasy pill?

In all seriousness, I agree with the criteria in which the award is judged – by on-field prowess only. By those means, Johns is one of the greatest, and deserves the status of immortal. He was the complete package, and inspired everyone around him.

On top of that, the fans loved him. Everyone at school wanted to kick a banana on Monday morning after the weekend’s footy.

I agree…some things just grow organically over the years, but it does take a vision and a bit of risk taking for anything big to start.

It’s just a shame that the point of difference between Melbourne and Sydney is that one city seems to care, and the other one doesn’t.

Is Sydney too important for a Grand Final Parade?

Is a parade one of those “build it and they will come” type events, or are we just that hopeless in Sydney?

Right you are…

The Puff Daddy song just comes off as tryhard compared to “Olympic Spirit”

AFL, NRL Grand Finals: learning from each other's mistakes

Holy Grail , what a great great song…brings back memories of huge finals moments like Nick Davis’s last second goal against Geelong.

Unfortunately, it was Channel 10’s AFL Finals signature song. Channel 7 wouldn’t have a bar of it, they’re too busy hamming it up with MegaWall.

AFL, NRL Grand Finals: learning from each other's mistakes

Yes! The NRL should paint Winfield Cup ’12 in red paint in the in-goals…just for nostalgia’s sake.

They should also re-introduce John Williams’ “Olympic Spirit” when the players run on, before the anthem. They used to back in the 90’s, and it popped up in the 2010 GF when the trophy was delivered by helicopter. Spine tingly-dingly.

What’s the song they use when the players run on these days? They use the same one in Origins and the GF…not nearly as good.

AFL, NRL Grand Finals: learning from each other's mistakes

hahaha…hilarious. the fact that the storm are in the grand final makes articles about the cap rorting MORE relevant.

stop trying to sweep what happened under the rug by saying that every club does it…until storm supporters, and more importantly the players, admit and accept that what happened was wrong, nobody is going to move on. it doesn’t seem like that is going to happen any time soon, so you’ll just have to accept that there will be a cloud hanging over your club for a long long time.

Salary cap penalties miss the mark

Of course that’s what you believe…kind of a self-serving statement based on your “nickname”

Manly vs Melbourne: choose your lesser evil

It reverses during the Friday Night Queensland games, where Wally Lewis and Darren Lockyer commentate as if they were two Broncs supporters sitting in their living rooms.

I would have been very pleased in Channel 10 had won the FTA rights.

Near perfect Storm shatters Eagles' title defence

I wonder why Bellyache was unable to replicate the same sort of unity in the NSW Origin teams he coached between 08-10.

Sure QLD were approaching the height of their powers, but I’m at a loss to reason why he couldn’t create the same passion for the blue jumper that he does for the purple one.

Near perfect Storm shatters Eagles' title defence

Oiks, time for a spell mate. I don’t even go for Manly.

But this is an article about the lesser of two evils, and as it stands, Melbourne are the greater evil in my opinion.

Manly vs Melbourne: choose your lesser evil

clubs incidentally go over their limit for a variety of reasons…it happens all the time. but intentionally cooking the books, and “systematically rorting” the system. the storm took it to a new level.

the storm have been successful (on field anyway) since inception. they haven’t had to struggle for results, and their fans haven’t had to patiently wait through lean years in order to taste success.

it was a concocted lie, they cheated for a good part of the last decade…that’s why the focus of hatred is on them.

Manly vs Melbourne: choose your lesser evil

oh dude, i forgot about the grappling and the chicken wings and the backbreakers and the WWE tactics…

i think what i hate the most is the smug look on cam smith’s face when he wins. ugh.

Manly vs Melbourne: choose your lesser evil

who did the Storm cheat to keep? Slater. Smith. Cronk.

They still have them, and they benefit from a chemistry in their spine that not many other teams enjoy..They have that chemistry as a result of cheating.

If they’d been playing by the rules, Cronk could be at Cronulla, Smith could be at the Roosters, Slater could be in England. We’ll never know because they cooked the books, and that’s why so many people hate them.

Manly vs Melbourne: choose your lesser evil

Steve b, you speak good sense…

You can’t measure or quantify it…I can’t put my finger on all of the reasons why. But I will forever have a hate of the Storm, even if in 10 or 20 yearsthey’re not cheating, even if they’re providing their own home-grown talent…I will hate them.

Maybe it’s because when I go to AAMI Park, or went to the old Olympic Park, none of the fans knew too much about league. They just knew they loved winning, and they loved Billy. It was all a lie, the success, the trophies. The club is built on lies and deceit.
