Ooooof. Have just seen how the rehearsal draw panned out earlier today (which they do to ensure the process is correct). Australia drew Brazil, France and Italy. Let’s hope we’re a little more fortunate come the real thing, which is just about to kick-off from Brazil!

Plenty of excitement starting to build inside the hall. Just over five minutes until we’re underway. Prediction time from me: Belgium, Ghana, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Australia!

WELCOME ALL TO THE WORLD CUP DRAW FOR 2014!

Very excited to see who the Socceroos draw for next year. Obviously lots of different combinations so it’s hard to foresee just who we’ll draw. Here’s hoping it’s not Brazil or France again! Any predictions for our group and who we might be drawn alongside? Who would you like (or not like)?

FULL-TIME —— MELBOURNE VICTORY 3-2 WELLINGTON PHOENIX

And Kevin Muscat’s first match is a victory!! It certainly didn’t appear that it would finish as close as it did when the Phoenix went down 3-0 after just 30 mins, but in the end, the Victory hung on for a 3-2 win!

Great game of football from a rare Monday night game. FT stats to come.

90+3’—IFILL FOR BROCKIE BUT JUST WIDE OF THE GOAL!!!

OH MY GOODNESS!! Almost a goal there for the Phoenix but wide from Brockie!!

Ifill creates something out of nothing down the left flank. Cuts inside a defender and then crosses across the six-yard box. Brockie dives and his outstretched shot flies high and wide of the bar! Almost!!

90+1’—Victory with counterattack, shot from Thompson but saved!!

Good counterattack from Barbarouses keeps the ball in play. He crosses into the middle where Thompson manages to get contact but Moss saves the shot straight at him. Melbourne back in control now.

90’—Victory win a foul in Wellington’s half, controlling possession.

Phoenix can’t get the ball at the moment, pressing for final goal. Into added time—four minutes remaining.

89’—Wellington with possession but at the wrong end of the field.

Good pressure from Thompson sees the Phoenix retreat 20-30 yards. Deep in their own half now, forced to clear and the Victory win possession back inside their own half now. Quick sub from the home team.

86’—Ifill with some space down the right, crosses in, but cleared by Victory.

Danger signs at the moment—somehow cleared by the Victory. Paine with a quick counterattack wins a corner for the Victory, but watch for the break from the Phoenix here if they get a good clearance.

84’—GOAL!! IFILL!! VICTORY LEAD PHOENIX 3-2!!

THE SUPER SUB WITH A BIG GOAL FOR THE AWAY TEAM!!

Wonderful individual goal. Waltzes into the box after a swift counterattack, beats two defenders and then toe-pokes it under Coe to get a goal. What a wonderful final five minutes we’re going to be in for now!

83’—Thompson into the box, chance, but it misses everyone!!

Somehow manages to miss everyone after a dangerous cross. Huge let-off.

82’—Corner is cleared easily, Hernandez shoots but well over the bar!

Scrappy corner is easily cleared but Wellington work it back into Hernandez. The Phoenix star has a chance to take a shot, but his quick snap is high and over the bar—poor finish from Hernandez, really.

Troisi goes off for Pain as well—great game from him tonight.

80’—Brockie breaks down right, turned over, Phoenix back in possession.

Sloppy football at the moment here for both teams. Sting definitely out of the game. Brockie does his best to create something down the right flank, turns it over but retains possession.

Free-kick on the right wing for Wellington—dangerous chance here.

Melbourne Victory vs Wellington Phoenix: A-League live scores, blog

77’—Turnover, chance for Brockie but it’s cleared by the home team.

Dangerous place to turn the ball over deep in their own half, Brockie wins the ball and breaks through on goal but the home team just manage to get a foot in and send it back to Coe. Victory simply thump it long and the ‘Nix will have possession in their own half—like most of this half to be honest.

Melbourne sitting very deep, inviting Wellington to attack and try and break them down.

75’—Wellington with possession, can’t get out of congested midfield.

Good time in possession for the Phoenix, but they can’t get out of the middle of the field. Too many players, and the Victory force a turnover. Quick ball up to Thompson and the veteran wins a free kick.

Traore tries to break down the left but it’s turned over. Hicks with some space down the right.

72’—Brockie played in behind, dangerous, crosses and cleared for corner.

First time the Phoenix have really gotten in behind the Victory tonight. Brockie wins the ball near the by-line on the right post, crosses into the middle and it’s cleared out for a corner by the home team.

Muscat’s shot off the following corner flies into the grandstand. Let-off.

Melbourne Victory vs Wellington Phoenix: A-League live scores, blog

72’—Sub (Phoenix): Ifill ON, Huysegems OFF.

Good sub for the Phoenix—trying to make use of their possession at the moment.

Melbourne Victory vs Wellington Phoenix: A-League live scores, blog

69’—Phoenix pressing down left flank, Victory win turnover.

Wellington trying to play their way back into the game at the moment, but they keep winning the ball a long way from goal and can’t get behind the Victory’s defensive line which has dropped a long way back now.

Victory force an error and break out of their own end up the left flank, as they have done all night.

Melbourne Victory vs Wellington Phoenix: A-League live scores, blog

67’—Lots of space at the moment, Melbourne in possession/attack.

Quick passing and moving around the left flank from Traore, lots of space at the moment for Melbourne with a good spell of possession. Thompson loses the ball in attack, though, and Wellington break.

Melbourne Victory vs Wellington Phoenix: A-League live scores, blog

66’—Brockie away down the left, chance pending for Wellington.

Muscat releases Brockie well down the left flank to win a corner for Phoenix. Riera comes off and Hicks comes on. Corner. Coe comes for the ball and punches well to get it out for a throw-in.

Melbourne Victory vs Wellington Phoenix: A-League live scores, blog

64’—Phoenix with possession, falter, quick counterattack from Melbourne.

Free kick for Hernandez sees the Phoenix with possession deep in Melbourne’s half. Lia tries to cross down the right flank but there’s nobody in the box and the Victory can clear easily. Barbarouses breaks down the left, tries to play through Troisi but it’s cleared late.

Melbourne Victory vs Wellington Phoenix: A-League live scores, blog

62’—Counterattack for the Phoenix, Lia’s shot is saved by Coe.

Nice movement through the middle from Hernandez there to get Wellington on the counterattack, plays wide and then cut back in the middle to Lia. Shoots from about 20 but scuffs it a little and it’s saved.

Wellington dominating possession in the last 5-10 minutes here.

Melbourne Victory vs Wellington Phoenix: A-League live scores, blog

60’—Another corner, another free header for Victory, another misses opportunity

What’s going on at these set-pieces? Milligan with a chance there, but it’s high and wide. Seems like it’s only a matter of time from these set-pieces before the Victory get one of these headers to fall!
