Hey Casper,
A couple of points. There is no specific ‘Group Of Death’ at the World Cup. Every group fits that description. The sooner Australian fans get away from this supposed injustice the better! 🙂 England have looked faster at this World Cup than any previous for sometime in my opinion – but hey i also said England would beat Uruguay this morning! . Their standard long ball game seems to have gone, or at least suppressed, with the likes of Stirling, Sturridge and Welbeck fast feet and movement being preferred (the latter on intermittent occasions). Finally, Robben is a brilliantly fast player, and has no trouble running around the best wings and defenders in the world – i think he would have scored that goal regardless of the pace of the ball.

However, i thoroughly agree that Australia needs to find players who can counter attack if we do not find ones that can maintain possession. Finally, agree with the Cahill remark, maybe a Landon Donovan-eske transfer when the MLS season is on break!

England vs Uruguay: England on the brink of 2014 World Cup elimination

Ahhhh and hence the beauty of my scoring system. See I expected Australia to be woeful and concede over 10 goals in the group stage. Their performances (remember this system is not based solely on wins/losses) have been quite good i.e. scoring 2 goals against the team that put 4 past the world champions only a couple of days prior. With regards to Côte d’Ivoire, well they beat Japan after going down in the 16th minute. Rallied back together, much to Drogba’s presence, and scored two goals to win. Remember they have only played one match. 🙂

FIFA World Cup - Rating the teams (So far)

How about a supportive coaching role under/next to Justin Leppitsch. The Lions could do with a helping hand and who better than another one of their ‘glory boys.’ That should suffice his desire to help the club. What a true champion of the game.

Give it away Jonathan Brown, you owe us nothing

Great article!

Viva España – the death of Spanish football?

WE SHOULD EXPECT TO QUALIFY! 🙂 I’m going to get well ahead of myself! haha.

World Cup domination, yet defeat: Ange and his young Socceroos will learn from the errors

Great write up. Admittedly a pessimist Australian supporter in this World Cup, I have to take my hat off to Ange Postecoglou and co.
Their performance this morning was fantastic, an improvement on a solid display against Chile. However, Australians need to realise that every group in the World Cup Finals are “Groups of death.” 2018 will be our fourth world cup in a row and we, the Australian sporting public, need to start expecting of the Socceroos, what we do of the Wallabies, the Australian Cricket Team and the Australian Diamonds – and that expectation is winning. We need to start pressuring our Socceroos to win games at the world cup, as getting there is no longer a great hope as much as it is an expectation.

The Dutch only need to focus on one or two players, one of which is Cahill. Unfortunately, the opposite is not quite as luxurious. Netherlands will look to hit Australia hard early and get a 2 or 3 goal lead. If this ends up occurring, they will sub off star players and play a game of maintaining possession. I’ll admit, i’ll probably just record the game and get a good nights rest 😉

Dutch nervous about Cahill

All great points. This is Hazards time to shine should he wish to make the leap to one of the top elites. AVB should get some time given his ability to also play has a winger. If they play 3 traditional CB (Kompany, Vermaelen or Lombaerts) this may allow AVB to push up from RB. Their defence is most definitely their overwhelming weakness – hopefully they score 2 to every 1 conceded! 😉

Why Belgium can win the FIFA World Cup

Imagine the odds for that final!

Why Belgium can win the FIFA World Cup

QF would be a great result. You make a good point RE reference to EPL only, however this was only based on the players being members of some of the biggest clubs . I could’ve easily chucked in Thibaut Courtois for AM, but again… an EPL signed player. Looking forward to seeing how they go! Enjoy the cup!!
