Couldn’t agree more on the article. We all know it’s not stright forward, but there has to be money found for promoting the kids game. I am back in NZ now, but even when living in Aus I wondered how many families could afford to pay the fees for their kids to play rugby (or soccer for that matter), only 2 sports I really knew what costs were through being in rugby and mates kids playing soccer. And suggestion to arrange players going into scholls is a real huge one, as you get kids that no nothing about game etc, rather than just going down to a club where kids are already converted.

Player meet-and-greets and truckloads of Gilberts: It's time RA started looking at grassroots growth as an investment instead of an expense

Well I must admit I was a Cane fan. But I tend to judge players (especially loosies) on what I see at matches and not on tv. The games I saw Cane play live (super and test) I was always struck with his incredible workrate. When he made a tackle he was back on feet almost instantly, and would shadow behind his own backline coming in where needed etc. And he had almost a McCaw like quality of slowing opposition ball down, the differnce between a team winning a bll in 0-3 seconds and longer is something that is often underestimated I think.

What most people will remember Sam Cane for - and what they should instead

Kiwi, I think you will find these kinds of Jeckell and Hyde performnaces from the Clan for another season, they made no secret they are investing in youth where they can. Players take awhile to get the mentality etc to handle the game at next level. Not making excuses for them (I have no reason to) but think most of these young fellas from the area are 2-3 years off paying back the faith Clan have in them.

The Wrap: Spare a thought for injured players as Super Rugby’s two rutting rhinos deliver an epic final preview

As I have said continually I a real Holland fan, but boy I didn’t realise quite how big he was until he stepped up face to face with Hannah under the posts. I still reckon Holland is going to end up one of the great locks in a few years too! Enjoyed both those games on Saturday evening night, and was mightily happy to see yje crowds allowed on field after game.

Not many are going to opt for scrum istead of penalty, unless it 5m out. I not sure you not making argument for sake of it.

Scrums banned from free-kicks, 20-min red cards and shotclocks: World Rugby tries to speed up the game

I not sure how keen I am on the free kick etc, but I believe arguments about giving away free kicks on purpose is probably one that refs can stop, by simply turning FK to penalty. We have to remember any law change results in coaches trying to manipulate them to own advantage etc anyway. We have already seen with 30 secs on scrums etc, suddenly player goes down when a rest is required.

I think fellas it time to calm down, it’s an article in ROAR, hardly a really reliable scource of wht’s going on here in NZ. Razor has said he would like an open mind kept on eligibilty eyc, and NZR has probably talked to Mounga to see if he wants to come home. Same was done with Sam W, and also Ryan was talking last year about same with Frizzel etc. NZR would be negligent in their job if they weren’t checking out if anyone of test quality wasn’t interested in either returning to NZ, or move to NZ if they were eligible for ABs through parent rules etc. You know like Lomax at prop etc, I sure rest of props in NZ didn’t throw up hands and leave the country when he was chased.

'We would like him back': Razor plotting to bring back Richie as NZR open up on eligiblity, Sio staying put

Good on Paisami, and his agent. The beauty of getting in press etc and talking of huge deals etc overseas/NRL is a good way to loosen purse strings for good players.

Yep Noodles one of clubs I follow in Taranaki,in a town that has a population of 315, and not unusual to have a game with well over 100 spetators, and a soccer game on next field (admittedly with 8-15 spectators), they play another club 10-12kms away in a village of 18 houses (I have counted them! Both clubs have existed over 120 years.

The insurmountable problem facing Australian rugby in a doomed rivalry with New Zealand

😂 Not bad at all Ben. gave me a chuckle anyway.

Gary have a look at the photo that leads the article on the main ROAR page.

'Purely coincidental': Chiefs coach defends bruiser after ANOTHER late shot leaves Tah flattened - but was it legal?

What difference does it make where the player is from?

'Purely coincidental': Chiefs coach defends bruiser after ANOTHER late shot leaves Tah flattened - but was it legal?

Perhaps Andy because the broadcaster is really only interested in replaying things that the likes of Doran can get outraged at? And most tackles in forwards don’t look as spectacular as they close range ones. But if you didn’t notice Finau knocking over big blokes as well, I suggest you not watching game very well. There were some bloody good tackles from Holliday at times in and around the hard work areas along with plenty of others.

I don’t think so Gary, I think most appreciate that you get hit. I saw a beauty on DMac a couple of weeks back, and heard no complaints, but the kiwi commentaors saying how good it was. Like Edmed ,DMac got to feet after catching breath and carried on. Swinton I not sure is fast enough to get in position to make these tackles anyway?

'Purely coincidental': Chiefs coach defends bruiser after ANOTHER late shot leaves Tah flattened - but was it legal?

That was a funny article almost Christy, it’s posted with a photo of the tackle with Finau got his arm wrapped, and the ball is barely out of his hands. You really need to pick photos better to get outrage.

Coker SBW has 3 years in Toulon learning to play rugby before he went to Canterbury, Tana Umaga was his first coach. Funny isn’t it? Players learn to play game all over the world, and Hamish maybe forgot that part of SBW changing when writing article.

Hansen's done Joey Manu no favours comparing him to SBW. He'll be more like RTS - and Foz is the reason why

I not sure who does robbo, but just saying that broadcaster would surely be reponsible for clock in broadcast. Not even knocking anyone, but you do bring up point, and I genuinely wonder who does do Drua home games?

The Wrap: Why SANZAAR must hold Frank Lomani accountable for 'going back for his hat'

Kiwi, I hope the coaches are not changed mid season ever. I understand it’s the thing to do perhaps some places , we all saw Rennie dumped mid term etc and see it in may sports, I of opinion if you sign a coach fro a term, you see it out, I sure most coaches have a plan for the term op contract etc, and if you thought ot right plan you have to stick with it. Will say with Crusaders they looking lost, but saying there 9 ABs or ex ABs in squad on weekend was perhaps not taking into account that 3 of them at least are well past use by dates, and a couple have or seem to be pretty fleeting times in the jersey. Hell I a Canes man, and the Crusaders problems don’t worry me a lot, but I suspect if they sacked Penney now , it would probably cause more problems than it would fix, unless you can tell me better coaches after job of course. I do wonder if mix of coaches is right there though, but see it out.

The Wrap: Why SANZAAR must hold Frank Lomani accountable for 'going back for his hat'

Another interesting article Geoff, but have to admit I didn[‘t notice the tv clock in Canes game. But begs question, is it Super rugby’s fault or Stan as the broadcaster if the tv clock is wrong? I know the trendy thing to do is blame the body running the game, but I would think Stan tv is the one running tv broadcast and the timing on screen?

The Wrap: Why SANZAAR must hold Frank Lomani accountable for 'going back for his hat'

I personally pretty happy to see how this deal has gone through too. Not just a matter of Barrett making deal and then saying I off, but not only his agent has talked with Leinster, but NZR (and Razor Robertson) have been part of discussions, just trying to make sure no doubt he doesn’t come back burnt out. Also think it will do Jordie good playing in another comp, with no doubt differing training methods and styles of play.

All Blacks star signs surprise short-term deal with Irish heavyweights

Yep Geoff I agree with almost all you saying. On the Rebel beating the Highlanders, I thought from what I saw on tv, Rebels were well worth their win, playing a pretty good effective game, really enjoyed the game (even as a kiwi), just enjoy good rugby. Got criticised for saying how average the Crusaders and Tahs looked the night before, was an exciting game, but certainly looked like a couple of cellar dwelling teams playing. I actually thought another little highlight for me was when the Canes’ Kini Naholo scored a try, TMO alerted ref Doleman to what he thought was fould play in a clean out, Doleman looked at it and (correctly in my opinion) said no he was low, wraaped his arm etc so it stands. Was one of best things I noted on weekend, and would add to that in Crusader/Tahs game how well I thought Nic Berry reffed with quick decisions on tries etc, no wasted time, and TMO still has chance to come in if needed. I enjoy seeing the ref actually reffing the game!.

The Wrap: Crusaders' shot clock fiasco and shhh, don’t put the moz on Darby

TJ you exact kind of person that Barnes etc talk of when they say they had enough and pack in reffing. I have yet to see a ref make as many mistakes as the players ever!

'Kid wonder': Lancaster, Gordon shine as Rebels take one giant step in locking in maiden Super Rugby finals berth

Geez RN, I actually found the errors the night before ruined it for me. I thought the Tahs.Crusaders was exciting because the score changed so often, but most seem to come from mistakes etc. Perhaps I noticed as I was pretty neutral who won, and so was watching rugby just because it was rugby?

'Kid wonder': Lancaster, Gordon shine as Rebels take one giant step in locking in maiden Super Rugby finals berth

This Rebels team is an enjoyable team to watch, and well worth the win. To me this was a good game, and enjoyed more than Tahs/Saders , the best team won than seemingly the worst team lost if you understand my reasoning? Rebels genuinely look a finals bound team to me.

'Kid wonder': Lancaster, Gordon shine as Rebels take one giant step in locking in maiden Super Rugby finals berth

Nothing to do with result Gary, but if you thought that was a high standard game, well pleased for you. Tahs definitely deserved the win, but you could see they were a couple of bottom of ladder teams. Or did I miss something, and they have been lighting up the comp with high quality rugby. Seen a few of Crusaders games, and most have been same, they look like they are struggling, and really seem to be bumbling along. Haven’t seen all of Tahs games, but what I have they have been similar. And I made the comment about standard of game just as Crusaders scored what looked like winning try, my exact words were both seemed to see who could lose, defence was optional most of game it looked to me. Will add it was better than the MP/Reds game before it though. Good game to me was Reds/Brumbies last week and games like that.
