History, nostalgia and passion: Why NRL should ensure Jets comeback gets off the ground in Perth

The WCE have been one of the most successful teams in the AFL since they came in the comp.

The Broncos got the spoon in 2020 in case you forgot!!!

How would linking the Jets with a new Perth team be anything like the Perth Reds?? Please explain how trying to give a new team a link to history of the game is in anyway similar to the way it was done back then, when the game was trying to tear itself apart anyway?!

The demographics of WA and especially Perth have significantly changed since those days, there amount of expat NZ and poms is significantly larger and there have been big crowds when the NRL has taken games there.

Suggest you head down to Henson and see the age of most of the crowd, it ain’t your mates who are still bitter about them getting booted in 1983. And I would know, as I know most of those blokes as they are my age.

I also don’t see Valley diehards playing in the 2nd tier competition, or drawing crowds and still having a cult following, and not only from Newtown locals. But sure, compare the 2!

That is like saying that Rugby Leageu should not count numbers for tag in juniors, which they do!

Bollocks!

Said as someone who is born and bred and still lives in Newtown and attends most home games.

Relocating a team with very little history from Sydney to a RL stronghold in Brisbane is just slightly different to linking a new team in Perth to a foundation club of the sport in this country don’t you think?

Many people in WA don’t like QLD, Vic or anything else east of their border. It is not so much a distinct dislike of NSW as it is their intense like of being from WA and feeling like second class citizens. Belive me, I am married to one and am over their all the time, and it is not restricted to NSW.

I agree that they should not play home games at Henson if they were to use the “Jets”, and I live 5 min away. I am sure the Roosters would not be averse to playing the “Jets” at the SCG, or Tigers at LO which would still bring out the nostalgia factor.

The fact remains that most of any Perths teams away games would be played in Sydney, and RL not being a traditional game over there, they are not going to have people travelling to away games or “expats” turning out in huge numbers, so why not tap into a base of support in Sydney that also has a bit of history?

Pretty sure you said completely new club and used “version of the past”.

Perhaps we should get rid of the Dragons considering they are not the original team they were? Lets just wipe the history books pre NRL should we?

Are the Dolphins really a brand new club though?

I mean apart from being based in Redcliffe, having the Dolphin as an emblem and having the same colours, they are totally distinct from the team that has played in the Qld league for the last 100 years!

Don’t think anyone is arguing that he is a great leader.

His actual tactics as captain however leave a lot to be desired and he should face scrutiny for the decisions he made.

Cummins busting the myth that fast bowlers can't make great leaders

HAHA

Are you serious? So Bairstow was not wandering out of his crease when the ball was not dead multiple times during MANY overs?

I guess if I left it at the door I actually had a brain to leave there unlike yourself

Aussies have nothing to apologise for over Bairstow's blunder: England lost because they played Blaséball

And Bairstow kept walking out of his crease when the ball was not dead.

Are you dense? Or just being a muppet to wind up?

When did the umpire give a hat back before the ball hit the stumps???

They don’t have the bowlers to go the short bowling route. They have left Tongue out for the next test and he was the only one who had any decent pace.

It is also not “Bodyline” as it is against the laws to set a field such as was used in the Bodyline series.

Marnus was not standing out of his crease for that delivery! It is pretty easy to find but I guess that does not fit your point, so you have justdone what the English have and made it up

Aussies have nothing to apologise for over Bairstow's blunder: England lost because they played Blaséball

Seems that there is not one thing in there that the Poms could actually use to say what happened (apart from their own and their supporters carry on) is against the spirit of the game!

Smoke and mirrors: England's contrived outrage can't help them avoid the facts

Nailed it!

Save debates of morality in sport for cheating, not the nuances of rules

Let them! I would back every player in the Oz team over which ever moron tries it. I would hazard a guess they would cop a hiding from a fair few of the the English batsmen if they were to be out there as well.

Makes me remember Symo. RIP mate

Stuart Broad has just given Pat Cummins a lecture on moral standards. The audacity is gobsmacking

You want to compare them to the poms? Attending a private school does not provide anything but a sense of self righteousness.

I would back the chimps at Taronga over Stokes, Baz, Root and the MCC members who if it was not for their silver spoons would be begging the UK govt for handouts and be sitting in a Weatherspoons at 8am. Oh, and blaming the poles for not having a job whilst whinging about inflation after voting for Brexit!

The spirit of cricket was murdered in cold blood by sunburnt thugs - and the game might never recover

And you know how that story ends yeah?

The spirit of cricket was murdered in cold blood by sunburnt thugs - and the game might never recover

Bravo. Hope Cam got off his soap-box to give this a read, but alas he is prob on his knee’s begging Piers and Boycott, “Please sir, may I have another!”

The spirit of cricket was murdered in cold blood by sunburnt thugs - and the game might never recover

Oh spare us the BS Cam and F right off.

I get you are in this for clicks, but after some of the stuff you have defended over the years on here for your fave teams you should go have a cold shower and a look in the mirror.

COMMENT: Cummins failed the moral test and tarnished these Ashes. He had the chance to be a legend and blew it

I can’t see the Swans turning it around anytime soon with the injuries they have unfortunatley, and it is clear Buddy went one year too long. Playing in a GF, albeit a drubbing should have been his swansong!

AFL Power Rankings, Round 9: Collingwood unstoppable, Essendon in trouble

The point re AFL not being anywhere near the NBA is spot on.

And it is not just the AFL. NRL players are guilty of the same thing.

The players want all the perks and pay that NBA players enjoy, but none of the downside (trades to unwanted destinations being top of the list!)

They also seem to think that the revenue the game generates is remotely comparable to US sports.

Six Points: The move to save the Swans' season, the worst thing a fan can do, and why the Blues are closer than you think

“It’s obvious you just need a reason for a good ol projection vomi ting and can’t look at the situation or the Swans behaviour with both eyes opened.”
Huh? What am I projectile voming?
“Like other sensitive Swannies you can’t and won’t address Longmire’s actions towards Daicos in any of this.”
This is your reason for the targeted booing of Buddy during the game???
It is a shame that you and PTS have such blind loyalty to your club, that you will defend anything your supporters do no matter what!
As long as you are OK with the way your fanbase has acted in the past and continues to act, then that is your choice. Just don’t have a cry when people call you out for it.
