As a proud South African, 78 now, the critics can say whatever they wish. The Springboks are World Cup winners. The Springboks have made history. The Springboks have made a Nation burst with pride. The Springboks have made South Africans now living in every corner of the world burst with pride. The Springbok has been a part of my life from probably the age of two or three. When my late Dad used to say to me at that tender age: ” what do you say when you see a man in green”? And my answer would always be: ” Go Bokke”. As my years roll on, if I don`t make it to the 2027 World Cup, I will go to my rest with a smile, knowing that the Springboks are World Champions.

Hi Spiro, as a proud South African, and someone who has met you a few times, I thank you for your excellent article. You are one of only a handful of people who know the proud history of the Springboks going back to the days of Philip Nel, Boy Louw, Danie Craven etc. I am 78 now, and the Springboks have given me great joy and pride all of my life. The Bokke will never give up. I hope we can catch up again in Bondi Junction to talk about rugby and the Springboks. All respect to you.

To Country Boy: I am 78, proudly South African. And Bok Befok. I used to think the same about Spiro. I have now met Spiro quite a few times, and he is not anti Bok at all. In fact Spiro is always pleased when the Boks do well. And very few people know more about SA Rugby Roots than Spiro. His knowledge of Springbok rugby extends way before I was born. Spiro can tell you plenty about Oubaas Markotter, Boy Louw , Okey Geffen, Danie Craven, Louis Luyt, Frik Du Preez, Mof Myburgh, Naas Botha, Danie Gerber, and so many more. I have the utmost respect for Spiro. And I am a one-eyed Bok Supporter!

Dear W. Evans, I am 78, proudly South African, and from a tiny age, desperately wanted to wear the sacred green and gold jersey, with the elegant leaping Springbok over my heart.
The classic Springbok style has always, through the ages, been on forward power, and “Subdue and Penetrate” rugby. We take pride in our forward power.
The Bokke don`t care about winning margins. One point is enough. Nor do the Bokke care about the style of rugby. We care ONLY about winning.

Harry Jones is the best columnist, bar Spiro on the Roar. And when will you understand that the Bokke do NOT care how they win – except that they win. And that is what Springboks do. I have been Bok Befok for over 70 years, and the pulse of South Africa is that the Bokke must win. We don`t want entertaining rugby. We want winning rugby.
