As much as I hate to say it the Roosters are still the team to beat…..unless the Raiders get them this weekend which is a real possibility. if that happens and they finish up in 5 then it’s game on

Contenders and pretenders: Round 16 throws up plenty of questions

Agree Barry, it will be interesting to see how the Panthers handle the pressure come finals. If they somehow draw the Chooks or Storm it will be a very tough first up game. The Eels or even Canberra more likely.

Seven talking points from NRL Round 16

The interesting narrative on Walters is he has never had an NRL coaching job before even though he worked as an assistant to Bellamy & Bennett. Bellamy had 3 forgettable years coaching NSW origin so maybe the transition is alot more difficult then some realise.

I think Kevvie is a good people person, seems very likeable and relates well to his Origin players and seemed to get the most out of what were on paper at least far inferior teams to NSW. I’m not sure the Broncos need these skills at present or someone who may try to be all things to all people. On the other hand he would have a direct line to some of the old boys who might make good assistant coaches and want to see the club rebound strongly. Difficult one to read

Contenders to replace Seibold as coach of the Brisbane Broncos

Forty Twenty didn’t the Panthers contribute some of Cartwrights salary for the first year or so

Why 2021 will be the year of the Titans

Playing finals no guarantee for the Titans in 2021- yes a promising young core and proven exciting forwards signed this year mean the Titans “should” make finals. I’d like to see more support from fans they have a fantastic stadium and deserve to play in front of packed crowds but the GC has proven a very fickle market to own a sports team.

Why 2021 will be the year of the Titans

Barry just about sums things up nicely- whether Parra can get to another gear come finals is a big question mark. They have had very few injuries and have played almost all of their games at Bankwest through no fault of their own.

I’m not as convinced the Storm will make it all the way now….they most likely finish 3 or 4 and will have to play a final in Sydney against Penrith another team reasonably healthy. If they lose that game it’s all over unless they get all of their healthy players back and on song.

Improved Eels still have a long way to go for an NRL premiership

agree 100% I have seen alot worse than this in every game of every round. Tackles don’t always go according to plan and any number of variables come into play….very soft…and if he does it again then yes he might deserve a suspension

Storm's Bromwich banned for Eels clash

Barry tend to agree if they do win I see him going out on a high this year- if not my guess is its 50/50- he could play on without a doubt unless he does want to move to Brisbane for family reasons but I doubt we will ever see him in Broncos colours.

9 problems but a hooker ain't one: Knights and Storm two sides of the same coin

Why is this guy not signed behond thi year by the Storm….someone please tell me- I think they prioritised Tui over him for less money maybe??

No Munster, no Smith, no worries: The Storm are premiership favourites once again

I’m not sure either coach would be too worried about the results of this game given the number of injuries. I think just getting through the game unscathed and playing good football will be the objective and is not going to tell us much about either team really.

Why the Storm should be wary of the injured Chooks

zonecadet I have been gone for so long I did forget these teams….Edmonton great sporting history for about 10 years or so so good pick up

Are the Storm in decline and does the game want them dead?

Finucane was a bench player wasn’t even starting for the BD

Are the Storm in decline and does the game want them dead?

Fair point Aiden they have an impressive history winning 22 championships but they have been around for 70 years.

Are the Storm in decline and does the game want them dead?

Good read Andrew I was born in Canada and moved to Melbourne in the 1990’s. At the time I was introduced to AFL, it wasn’t until I moved to Brisbane in the middle of the super league war and watching the Broncos play that I developed an interest in league. I think growing up playing and watching ice hockey there is a similar aggression between the two sports that attracted me.

I moved back to Melbourne and since then I have been an avid Storm supporter, and the one thing that I marvel at is the fact that the Storm have not finished lower than 6 on the ladder since Bellamy took over. Growing up in North America I watched with great interest those teams that had dominated their sport for an extended period of time. Outside of the New England Patriots of the NFL, I cannot think of a single team that has had such a level of sustained success. Making finals in 15 out of 16 seasons in an incredible achievement in itself.

Sport is a business, and I have been facinated how Bellamy has been able to do something that no other coach in the modern era has been able to do. Every team has their own training methods so what makes Bellamy’s approach so different to others. This is a question I would love to have answered.

Love them or hate the Storm they have been the benchmark for consistency and professionalism that we are unlikely to see ever again…..enjoy it while you can.

Are the Storm in decline and does the game want them dead?

Well said Scott mediocrity should never be tolerated at any level. Injuries and constantly tinkering with a line up does not help but that is largely on him. It is a good glimpse into the future for Dragons fans they have some some exciting young players and with another strong forward ot two and a better coach they have the nucleus of a Top 6 team IMO.

Has Paul McGregor done enough to survive?

Making the Top 8 is not going to be considered a successful season nor should it. No chance of making the top 4 even with an easy run home. I like the fighting spirit of the Knights and they are good enough to beat anyone on a good day but the Storm should have scored another 2 tries if they go it right so still some work to do.

Plenty to build around and bad luck with injuries but will have to learn how to win ugly before being considered for the premiership

How the Knights can make the top four

great read Scott although not sure many people would consider the Panthers pack underrated this year. I’d have them on level pegging with the Roosters/Eels with the Storm a fraction under these.

They are the real deal but as we know its’ peaking at the right time and playing a defence first mentality in finals that will make the difference. The Eels need to find another gear, and th Roosters could be in real trouble if they get any more serious injuries

Seven talking points from NRL Round 12

Duncan nice problem to have 😁

Tips and predictions for NRL Round 12

Good analysis Liam forwards are not the problem at the Broncs as has been well documented. Fielding a very inexperienced spine is going to the issue in 2021. Not sure about Reynolds very injury prone but i like what Paix and Deardon bring to the team, and maybe rotating Turpin and McCullough though the hooker role will pay dividends and bring some much needed experience back.

Farnsworth at FB is an interesting call he certainly runs the ball hard but whether he can organise the defense is going to be the key.

I still don’t think this is going to be a Top 4 side with the current list – at least for another couple of years.

What will the Broncos look like in 2021?

I think what this season has shown thus far is that injuries are going to play a key role in how the Top 8 end up. Depth will be tested, and with no Qcup on NSW cup players will have to be brought into games to get match fit just to cover off for potential injuries. The Knights depth (or lack there of) could be telling however teams like Canberra seem to have adjusted to it better.

The Knights have a reasonably tough schedule with games againsty Storm, Manly, Wests, Roosters and Sharks. I think they are another year off contending.

Dogs loss shows Knights are not premiership contenders

Whatever Uncle Nick wants he gets. In my humble opinion for a guy that’s got every piece of silverware you could get your hands on he should go to the Warriors. Instead of chasing further glory this would really show the character of the man

Are the Dragons about to sign SBW?

Not so sure about that Randy….Scott on his day has proven to be a very dangerous player but like a lot of young players has to be man managed as we have seen. Ricky looked at the upside and decided to roll the dice to get rid of another problem child in Leilua.

I still think Scott can contribute if he gets his head in order- loss of Cotric is definately a blow though

Bulldogs confirm Nick Cotric is heading to Canterbury

Agree Duncan and from memory didn’t they win ever game during Origin except a 1 point loss the Roosters in Adelaide?? they never looked like not winning it

Which side is the ultimate NRL champion for the last 20 years?

Nope the way the Broncos are managed at present he is the first one on the list to be called

Paul Green parts ways with Cowboys

Under seige mentality, standing up for each other and making the most of their chances. Especially given they hardly touched the ball for most of the back end of the 1st half. Wighton and Willams certainly gelled and looked dangerous all night.

Uncharacteristic mistakes and sloppy defence from the Roosters certainly helped. Lindsay Collins and Mitch Aubusson would be copping a spray today from letting in one of the softest tries i have seen all year.

The Raiders prove their doubters wrong again, but how far can they go?
