He smashes it at WCs

Eddie was right about one thing in epic spray - the Wallabies must stop being reactive and accepting of mediocrity

But if he beats the ABs for a 3rd time at a WC, against the odds, what will you call that?

Dang. Thanks Harry.
Saucy sells huh?

'Give yourself upper cuts': Eddie furious at journos after 'worst press conference I've ever had'

Airports are emotional places and leaving home with a young team, he would have hoped to get some generic patriotic Aussie support. People have reasons not to give it, but have some heart

Tony, how many reads do the analysis / technical pieces get? Like HJ’s TomH piece? They are not negative pieces but informative and can generate a good debate.

it was the hat

or is it sour puss?

The hat was bad tho!

Journos could have asked him a lot more about the WC. Could have asked which team he fears the most, which team he is planning the most to play against, how close does he thin the teams are, how dependent France were on Ntamack, about Sth African injuries and 4 x 9s, etc. Loads of questions.

If we do well in France the sourpots will say the team played well, had nothing to do with Eddie.

The Euro cup wins are useful vs French and Irish (and other likely SF/Final team) players = relevant experience if we get there.

Will Skelton originally turned down Wallabies captaincy - it's why Eddie knew he was onto a winner

No, some players executed to plan, some didn’t, and as a collective they didn’t succeed so the plan was tweaked. Trial & error with a new team adjusting to new coach.

World Cups, unshakeable belief, the Wallabies, and those Waltzing Matildas

Thank you Harry, fantastic snap view. I assume his chukka numbers will look better if some of his teammates do more and know each other’s play better.
Botha is amazing in isolation but also knows he can slot into his individual brilliance cause the guy next to him will do his job, and the guy next. There’s what’s coachable to potentially lift numbers, and there’s team role lift (or decline) potentially, right?

ANALYSIS: Is Tom Hooper a Test quality flanker? How he's fared so far and the biggest hole in his game

These last few days in Arnhem Land reminds me of
I. Eddie the teacher *, which to me is the core Eddie,
and which is a far cry from
II. Eddie the entertainer (doesn’t go down well in Oz, earns him the charlatan tag etc),
which is very different to
III. Eddie the tactician (does he /doesn’t he have the smarts. Watch the Cheika interview, look at success in beating NZ twice at WCs, beating SA with J, winning as assistant with SA, but losing a lot too, particularly when he was changing the team and/or tactics. Jury is out for this WC).

Crocs, snakes and bonding: Inside the Wallabies' camp and why Eddie took them back to where it all began

Fair, as we haven’t seen the type of play come through yet, which he thinks will beat ABs, Boks, Ireland, France – but I believe it is ‘brewing’.

World Cups, unshakeable belief, the Wallabies, and those Waltzing Matildas

I doubt he’s taking the exact same approach as he took with his England team. They depend more on the tight 5 right

Newsflash: what EJ’s trying to do isn’t the same as what he says. Shock, dismay. Always has been. Does that make him a charlatan? Who cares?
Judge by the rugby he is trying to mould this team into playing. It’s more like UK football (soccer) in its micro focus on available players, on tactics, on planning against specific opponents. Can’t see it? Watch reels to unpeel what he’s trying to do? Squidge (see comment above). Two Cent. Our beloved NB.
Analysis about specific players and how Ireland play, or how France play, or how England will play, or how Scotland will play if they shock get thru, and how Eddie is planning specifically for x game, or y…
I wish we did that more here – but it does require effort, analysis, sticking your neck out with ideas, with technical opinions, and from all that we would get a richer open-minded debate about rugby, which is the game we all love.
My read of the last 4 games is that he expected some players to lift and they didn’t. You can only try. Then you move on. It’s fast and brutal, but he wants to win. He wants to win. You may insist that he doesn’t know how to win, but I haven’t seen any technical analysis that convinces me of that. Just venting.
Eddie beat NZ in WC. Look at his whole record: he has had some classic wins. He probably plays a risky game. He focuses on specific opponents and tries to stretch the game plan too much in planning for the eventual game against them, and stretches players, risks putting them out of comfort zone, confuses them, challenges them. That may explain his runs of losses as England coach – refer Squidge. He’s not Eddie Perfect – that’s another guy. But he wants to win. And he wants to win the big ones. It’s unpredictable and uncomfortable, Brett.

My favourite part of the Squidge video is the comment: “Imagine the number of hours Squidge has spent watching England playing rugby. What a nightmare.” (See Mick Gibson comment on Geoff’s post. I tried to repost here but is being screened…)

World Cups, unshakeable belief, the Wallabies, and those Waltzing Matildas

Brett, for mine I’m shifting (as DR would say) to nth hem perspectives, to ‘tune in’ to the WC – not at the exclusion of Oz perspectives. The most recent Scotland France game was good to watch.
Mick Gibson also posted https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UDmoKBPg_Y which I sent to my mates – they don’t buy it (rusted on EJ haters)… Roarer analysis of this video would be great to read.

World Cups, unshakeable belief, the Wallabies, and those Waltzing Matildas

i probably missed it, but this is the first time I’ve seen Roarers talk about this Squidge analysis of EJ. Reminds me of Nick Bishop but on an easy to follow vid

Being an incorrigible optimist I like your suggestion, Geoff!

The Wrap: Is Eddie Jones playing the role of Keyser Soze or Frank Drebin?

Happens to be my team so I’ve watched probably a lot more Rebels play than some, and can see more than just ‘lost games’.
