I watched for 75 minutes hoping that one of my favourite teams “not the Panthers” would have a win. Sadly, when “not the Panthers” turned out to be the Bulldogs, it was 75 minutes wasted.

Penrith Panthers vs Canterbury Bulldogs highlights: NRL live scores, blog

Bundy Rum? He might be a QLDer, would’ve played a dozen Origins for the Maroons etc etc.

Citizenship fiasco: Hasler survives despite doubts he's a Canterbury person

This may be true, and I don’t really know how the tv viewer numbers are counted, but you go to any pub in Melbourne city or inner-surrounding suburbs on a game day, and you cannot find a seat. I’d hazard a guess and say that for every bloke that sits at home and watches a League game on a Sunday, 15 – 20 would be in a Melbourne pub watching an AFL game that could also have 30K-60K at the MCG. AFL fans are patriotic to the sport and the region, go to any train or tram stop on game day and you’ll find out quickly, and it also makes for good television viewing, ask any punter or his 100 or so companions packed into the Young & Jackson on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. The League in Sydney needs to do bucketloads more to entice fans to come in. Halve the ticket prices, improve the amenities, play NSW Cup games before all first grade games and offer local match prices for players and families through their respective clubs.

Imagine a 20k average NRL season

The Broncos have not been pretty, but have tended to lift and play slightly better than their opponents more often than not, aside from the Storm thumping. If they finish outside the top four they will win their first final and trouble whoever they play next.

Ten talking points from NRL Round 19

True, but, of the new players that were bought in to the side, how many have been 18th man or part of the emerging squad? I’d suggest all but one or two. Isn’t that showing both faith and loyalty?

Queensland's loyalty policy is a lie

Not true. The 2015 game there was outstanding to be at (but for a Qld loss). There is not a bad seat in the house. They put on a massive event and the stadium is (equal with Suncorp as) the best in the country

MCG to host State of Origin 1 in 2018

“In the second half of game three they were just shovelling the ball from one side of the field to the other.. “
I actually thought this from the very beginning of game three. Queensland looked to come out and play with a set structure for which ever point on the field they began their sets. NSW seemed like they had no structure at all. Very one dimensional, 3-4 hit ups then a shift as if it were an unopposed training session. Whenever the ball got as far as Dugan, he seemed suprised to get it, was only jogging, and more often than not had to concede a tackle or step back in due to sideways running. There was also no adaptation to the Qld defensive line. Morgan screaming in from out wide? Run a block play. Moose and Wallace getting up on Fifita? Hit him two wide or across the ruck. Very strange play from the beginning I thought.

How Game 1 cost NSW the series

Agreed, hate him as i have (it’s lessening), Klemmer has not put a foot wrong. Runs harder than both Woods and Fifita from any point on the field. Seems like the sort of psychopath that loves to take the first hit-up from the kick off. Pumps the legs, doesn’t stop and turn like Woods, doesn’t crab like Fifita. Klemmer was most impressive Blue for me all series.

How has this Origin series changed the Australian team?

He’s not mentioned here, but James Roberts does to his opposing centre every week what Chambers did to Hayne all series. Gets them on their heels, turns their shoulders in and then burns them on the short side. Or takes them on down the short side then steps in and exploits the gap between centre and half on the inside created by his pace. He’s at 90% tackle efficiency this year (higher than both Dugan and Hayne), and averages more metres and tackle busts than Hayne.

NSW still looking for the 'trust factor'

I was thinking the same. If it were a genuine trial (and I’m well aware it isn’t), you’d probably only take Klemmer, Turbo and maybe Friz from NSW in a starting 17.

Useless like them and Pearce

State of Origin: Five talking points from Game 3, 2017

Spot on.

State of Origin: Five talking points from Game 3, 2017

The troops available to NSW were favourites in all 3 games. 8 debutants aka only available through necessity for QLD. Not about who’s available, it’s about what it means to them.

State of Origin: Five talking points from Game 3, 2017

Mate, please “All this talk about how dominant and amazing this QLD team is, but only just scrapped out a win in game two”, all the talk since May was about the mob in Blue. All the experts, all the players, all the media couldn’t stop talking about it. Believed their own hype, its a very NSW trait.

State of Origin: Five talking points from Game 3, 2017

Qld has approx. half the total population of NSW in more than twice the total area. Surely the answer lies somewhere within?

Legacy on the line: Will Game 3 be Laurie’s Pearce de résistance?

Still proving it as Roos reclaim number one in the world spot.

Insight from Sterlo: Devil's advocate in a blue suit

Panthers have surely had the easiest draw of any team this season?

Twelve talking points from NRL Round 16

*3 Sunday home games in the last 5 seasons.

NRL releases complete draw details for final six rounds

A chap I follow on Twitter made the point that the Broncos haven’t had a Sunday home game since Rd 19 2015 and only 3 Sunday games in the last 5 seasons. A lot of talk is always about the Broncos being favoured in the draw but the same fellow also pointed out that the Broncos this year have 8 Thursday games, play each of last year’s top four twice and have to play away in NZ during Origin.

I think that, regardless of what was explicably said in the team huddle, having someone with the ability to lift your team’s effort and belief with an enthusiastic oration is immense in those moments in the game. A clear message, a level head and a reignition of the fire in your belly from a spirited captain/leader is surely a part in explaining the difference between the two teams in the last quarter.

Queensland are great, Blues choked. The end.

Good points. I also see the QLD team huddle after the final Gagai try and C Smith with vein-popping intensity addressing his troops. For the life of me, and while i like him as a player, I can’t picture Cordner spraying his Blues with the same ferocity. Who is that guy in the Blues team? When they’re on, as we saw in Game One, they are certainly on. When the chips are down though, who is the one that they look to for a rev up?

Queensland are great, Blues choked. The end.

Good point. His game management was surely ordinary and he did go missing in the second half, but he wasn’t any worse than Maloney.

NSW should’ve won that but they only played one half of football.
