I wish they were too, I was hoping for a possible San Lorenzo v WSW clash but I saw the fixtures and was left disappointed. Their fans are incredible and San Lorenzo are a wonderful club, I was so happy for them when they won the Libertadores. Along with other big South American clubs such as Nacional of Uruguay (Luis Suarez boyhood club) , they have some of the best supporters on the planet.
As for Cruz Azul they are easily one of the strongest teams in Mexico. They smashed table-toppers America 4-0 not too long ago, but having said that WSW can get a result against them. Like a lot of Mexican sides, their defence isn’t really the strongest!

San Lorenzo: Assessing one of WSW's possible Club World Cup opponents

It was 2003/04, 2004/05 was won by Mourinho’s Chelsea.

Is Arsene Wenger still the right man to lead Arsenal to silverware?

Thanks for the link mate, that was a great read!

Another derby win - Atlético Madrid are here to stay

Cheers mate, I have noticed that there is an awful lot of EPL content here! Which frustrates me a little because so many fans treat the EPL as the be-all and end-all!
I recall watching the Turin derby on foxtel last season but unfortunately I have no idea what happened with the broadcasting of Serie A games after that!
I do agree, Italian football has a long way to go but it’s on the improve which is great to see. Platini is a clown in my opinion, yes he was one of the greatest footballers of his generation but he’s not cut out to be president of UEFA.
Arsenal have had it very easy, no doubt about that and this is coming from a lifelong Gooner.
It is about time Napoli won it again though!

I’ll be covering Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, Champions League, South American football, basically anything other than EPL (because every man and his dog seems to be covering it). My interests go so much further than just the English game.
There will be plenty more from me 🙂

Why Serie A is worth watching again

It’s very frustrating and I only think that’s the case because it’s a British channel (run by a mob of Irish clowns). Setanta used to show Eredivisie, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and even the Portuguese league. What ever happened to those!? To have such leagues replaced by competitions such as the Blue Square Premier is total madness.
We can only hope that the expansion of Fox Sports brings more of Europe’s elite leagues back to our shores.

Why Serie A is worth watching again

I have Setanta as well as the foxtel sports package and the only good European league on there now is the Bundesliga. I watch Copa Libertadores on Setanta as well and those two leagues are the only reason I still have Setanta, other than that it’s a waste of money. One day’s time you had access to Serie A on Setanta and ESPN and La Liga on ESPN. It’s good to see La Liga back on foxtel however, even though most of the games aren’t even live.

I would argue that the Eto’o, Messi, Henry frontline was better, as Barcelona won an unprecedented six trophies in 2009 and trounced Real Madrid 6-2 in their own backyard with that lineup. As good as the Eto’o, Henry, Ronaldinho lineup was on paper it didn’t really prosper, as Barcelona only had that lineup in the 2007-08 season and didn’t win any trophies (and finished 3rd in the league). The Neymar, Suarez, Messi frontline has the potential to be Barcelona’s best despite the players sharing some similarities. Only time will tell whether it can better Barcelona’s 2009 frontline or their Stoichkov-Romario strike force that swept all before them in the early 90’s.

Rather fortunate indeed, and I’m doubtful another club would have been given the same treatment.

On paper you’d struggle to find a scarier line-up in football. I’ve followed Barca since 2001 as a kid, but I’d have to say this is their strongest frontline in living memory.
As far as I’m concerned, the only thing that could stop Suarez from being a success is himself. I’ve heard Luis Enrique will play Neymar and Suarez up top and Messi in behind, playing a similar role to what’s he’s done for Argentina recently.
Suarez should thrive though!

Barca still had a solid season but simply weren’t strong enough, and Martino wasn’t quite the right man for the job either. He was too laid back and that often reflected in his team’s performances as they often looked sluggish. Luis Enrique is far more strict and already knows the Barcelona system, he should be able to bring the best out of the team. He’s the sort of coach who doesn’t tolerate dressing room egos as well, and he’d have no trouble leaving big names out of the squad.
