Well said Barb. But I would add that to anybody who has paid attention it was obvious that Cummins WOULD grow into the role.

In terms of character I don’t think we’ve had a captain to match him since Benaud, and it’s so pleasing to see him and the team reaping the rewards now.

And it hasn’t escaped the notice of the rest of the cricket world. Unlike our previous champions, the only ones that still hate this team are the Poms!

I knew Australia's bunch of 'no-hopers' couldn't win the World Cup, right up until I knew they would

Never too late for a fact check. It wasn’t Piggins. It also wasn’t Paul Sait, as many people claim.

It was the much lesser-known Peter Brown, after Pethybridge had scored at Redfern.

The forgotten players: Parramatta Eels

Agree. That was sickening to hear.

REACTION: 'Craziest game', 'Absolute chaos', 'brutal' - all the fall-out from Rabbitohs' epic win over Roosters

Yep. He had hands like feet.

'Without peer': What makes Simon Poidevin one of my favourite Wallabies

Thought I’d come here to check the outrage from Parra over the two tries they were denied by the refs. But we got this article instead. Funny how some people see the game.

I don’t support either team, but Parra won this fair and square, and should have won by a lot more.

Redemption for Jake Arthur as rookie half helps Eels end Manly's season

Given a decent run with injuries I think they’ll finish top six.

Are the Rabbitohs going to make the eight?

Ok, so not boring then.

Should NRL keep golden point or go back to the old draw board? Hard to split difference

Maybe. But I wonder how many viewers turn off during Golden Point.

Exactly what some genius suggested a few posts up Tim!

Not sure I’m reading you correctly. I’m saying the availability of three points in some games, while a normal game is awarded two points, leaves open the potential for manipulation. The frequency or otherwise of draws is irrelevant.

Sport rewards the lucky.

I don’t think the comparison with soccer stands up all that well. Soccer teams can, and do, set out for a draw from very early in the piece. Sometimes from the get-go. A draw only ever really enters the equation in RL in the last few minutes.

Hence the need for the extra incentive in soccer to go for the win. The three points was an excellent initiative that has now stood the test of time.

But it’s not usually boring is it? The stakes are too high for it to be.

But Marco, the last few minutes of any close game can be exactly that. A race to draw a penalty or get field position for a droppy. With or without Golden Point.

And as discussed at the time, as a Souths supporter it was a shame to come out of that contest with nothing to show for it. But offer us that same opportunity in the same circumstances, and I’d like to think we’d take it every time. So would the Storm.

Storm took the points fair and square, and I believe we got a better finale to the match because of GP.

Would agree if a normal win was given three points. I don’t like a situation where more points are handed out in some games than in others.

So maybe three for a win, two for a Golden Point win, one for a Golden Point loss.

Or four for a win, three for a Golden Point win, one for a Golden Point loss. That would cater for the rare situation where points have to be split (two each) due to an abandonment, or an unresolved Golden Point period.

Forgive me for saying so, but that sounds a little biased.

Latrell was superb tonight.

'Real physical presence': Young gun wins rave reviews from coach as Bunnies crush Roosters

1. So was the unlimited tackle rule, the corner post rule and no time off for injuries. Rules change, and it’s been golden point for two decades now.
2. Plenty of games are decided by a field-goal kicking contest.
3. The myth is your repeated assertion that the rule was changed on a whim by Gallop after a spurious interaction with a fan. And your attempt to shift the goalposts here suggests that you know it’s a myth.

Bellamy's 500th turns into classic as Melbourne squeak by in golden point thriller after stunning Souths turnaround

1. According to you.
2. We didn’t get a result I liked last night, and I still thought it was a great finish.
3. You’ve now repeated this myth about Gallop a number of times here. Please stop it.
And again you’re attributing the “rather lose than draw” line to me, which is another of your fabrications. You seem weirdly exercised by this issue, but that’s no reason to make things up.

1. See my previous comment.

2. A lot of games come down to a field goal kicking competition, golden point or not.

3. Melbourne won, and deserved to win. If Souths scored first in extra time, they’d have deserved to win.

Not sure how you could infer that from my comment.

I’m a Souths supporter. I appreciated the opportunity to get a win. Ultimately we lost fair and square because we failed to control the football in extra time.

For me that’s a much more interesting transaction than shaking hands and walking off without a winner. YMMV.

Mitchell and Walker are not bankers? Despite winning games for Souths week after week after week?

I often wonder what it is about these two that attracts such negative commentary. Different standard to what’s applied to other players across the league.

I do.

Good for a laugh Ben, but missing my point I think.

Assuming none of the factors described in the article affected the outcome of Reynolds’ kick, then we would have been at 14-all, Souths in possession with a few minutes to go. No way to know how it would play out from there (but would have been fun to watch).

Will reiterate though that I thought Penrith were worthy winners in a hard-fought match.

My mistake as well. Instead of “didn’t read” I should have said “didn’t understand”.
