Some years ago Alan Jones was appointed coach I’ve a barbarian team to play the Wallabies. The Barbarians nearly beat the Wallabies and Alan said he left tactical matters in the hands of Quade.

Like many kiwi and Australian players and coaches, Quade has made a good living playing for big corporate Japanese rugby teams for a few years now next to the brilliant Will Genia. He’s always in top physical condition and loves the game, even playing club footy in Brisbane for Souths during the tragic period of coach Brad ‘the goon’ Thorn’s tenure. I can’t understand the use of the word “Redemption”.

Sanchez missed the seemingly simple kick to convert the first Barbarian try like he missed a kick to win the World Cup playoff for third place. At one point he did a useless chip kick straight to a Welsh back when Tongan Thor was right beside him keen to go. It was as though Brad Thorn was coaching Sanchez.

The chances of Rugby Australia picking a decent coach to replace Eddie ‘the temp’ are a million to one. Four starters, they have no interest in an independent coach building a decent team with the best players. The number one key selection criteria for the next wallaby coach is and unshakable bias in favor of New South Wales rugby players and expensive league converts. The whole board should have resigned in disgrace by now. They cling to office like parasites.

Eddie should be sacked for free for participating in a job interview with Japanese Rugby during his first year as coach and undermining the morale of the Wallabies during World Cup ;he has repudiated his contract with RA.
The next coach will need to do two things if he wants the job:
1 promise you will never pick Quade Cooper
2 express an interest in buying Rugby League backs, no matter what the cost.

I have the feeling that the people of administering Australian rugby spend much of their time watching rugby league. In 2027, can we find a coach who will pick the best players including those playing overseas like the coaches of the good teams do. Failing that let’s just enjoy being in the second tier playing Fiji, Tonga, Samoa and anyone else who wants to play in Australia. The B& ILs will probably send a seconds team out here to perform in front of small crowds of expats in 2025.

It’s not all bad for the players…They’ve had a lovely holiday in France, they’ve only played four games; many had a go at being captain. Now they can check out opportunities with French rugby clubs in the hope of getting a job elsewhere rather than returning to face the embarrassment of playing the Lions in a couple of years.

More than four years after his 70th cap Cooper returned to the Wallabies when named to face South Africa in the first Test on the Gold Coast. In a masterful display Cooper converted all seven penalty goals and the conversion of Andrew Kellaway’s sole try to secure a memorable 28-26 win. Cooper won a further four caps, each in the winning side, before he reluctantly withdrew from the Spring Tour to honour commitments with his Japanese club.
