The reason he doesn’t have to manage down or outward is because he has achieved success.

But let’s not forget that there was a tonne of scrutiny over his appointment, even to the point that most of the media including half the writers on this website were pointing to him as one of the coaches most likely to get sacked mid season despite having overseen a massive improvement in 2022.

Underrated as a player, Walters doing likewise in coaching by stepping out of Wayne’s shadow to revive Broncos

Well that’s 2 successful seasons then. Last season he improved their ladder position by 5 places, this season he improved them by another 7 places.

It was annoying how Gamble’s comments were reported with a negative slant as a dig against Walters. They weren’t at all disrespectful and were completely reasonable. Really poor reporting by the media.

I like Ben Darwin’s work, but that particular statement of a coach not being able to make a team work better than the some of their parts, only worse, is is faulty.

State of Origin has proved that repeatedly over 40 years.

You don’t think that improving a team’s ladder position by 5 places is successful coaching?

Literally every single player in the team is playing better under him than they were before he arrived.

He took a wooden spoon team to 14th, then 9th, then a grand final. Any coach would be proud of that kind of progress.

Transcript of interview:

Kensuke Iwabuchi: Eddie Sama, the job is yours. When can you start.
Eddie Jones: I’d love to start before the end of the year. I’ve just got to work out a way to get fired from this gig first…

'Don’t know what you’re talking about': Jones denies wanting to quit Wallabies, throws a strop when asked about it

I saw Eddie Jones at an IGA in Milton when he was coaching the Reds. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a tool and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Cobbo didn’t get binned because he didn’t tackle him when he was in a try scoring position. An early tackle is just a penalty.

'The forward pass was so wrong it wasn’t funny': Did a refereeing 'howler' cost the Warriors?

DWZ was offside when he made that intercept, so it evened out.

Well, DWZ only made that intercept because he was offside (watch the replay – he was 2 metres offside), so the score shouldn’t have been as close as it was when Walsh passed the ball forward anyway.

If the Broncos had lost the game, that’s what people would be talking about.

He’s actually a half that has been converted into a hooker, so it’s probably more natural for him to run. Also the reason why he started out so poorly and has improved – he was learning on the job.

Hooker’s dummy half service becomes quicker and smoother the more games they play with their forwards, so he can be expected to get even better going forward.

Cleary has completely failed to improve the ladder position or finals performance of his team since 2021. The Panthers have been just treading water for the last two seasons.

Really only 2 years – this is his third year as coach – and he was building a roster from the ruins of a wooden spoon team. The turnaround has been amazing.

Have the Broncos forwards lost the battle in the middle at any time this year?

Forwards win finals: Broncos and Warriors will unleash old-school engine room brutality

I can’t see how having the captain and easily best player obviously not wanting to be at the club is anything other than pure poison for team morale.

He’s taking up $1 mil of salary cap space and they can’t even use him as a recruiting tool – he’s probably a negative influence in that regard.

It’s going to be another rough season next year, and if Hunt’s heart isn’t in it, who are the other players going to look to when things get tough? Not sure that Flanagan in his first year as head coach at the club will have what it takes.

It’s amazing how one club broncos legend Adam Reynolds has managed to somehow score 1,000 points in only two seasons in the NRL.

Could just be a coincidence, but if you were to apply Morse code to Ben Hunt’s eye blinking it would read: ”They have my daughter”.

He’ll probably have them in 9th on the power rankings again on Tuesday.
