WRONG!!!!!!!! Alot of Kiwis love League Bud!! The NRL means alot to most sports lovers in Auckland!! eg. The amount of people bombarding talk-back radio last year after the world cup win saying how great of a game it was!! League is a Volcano waiting to explode in NZ mate!!!! For most of generation Y NRL is the preferred sport Of corse everyone’s old man likes Union They had no choice back when the were growing up!! btw Mungoes that is the weakest insult iv ever heard!!!! So insulting. At least were not watching a sport because it is the socially accepted thing to do!!!!

Do you have any good links?? Iv read all about the Vichy regime in France and it is Discusting and appaling that League was banned and not allowed to grow! Imagine if the two codes were allowed to go about there business for the last 100 years without any Outside Interference! I think we all know who would be on top right now!!! Rubbish! League is growing in NZ!!! Im from Auckland and most of the younger generation really like/love League and Follow the NRL! Of course the Older Generation Follow Rugby Because the grew up in a time when there was no alternative. Australian Rugby League only really started to be shown on sky in the mid 90s!!! The numbers point is garbage Per Capita there’s more NZ League players than Aussie Rugby Players

League is not barley holding on mate. Auckland had roughly 1/4 of the population and the Warriors, NRL, Origin (Mainly Queensland) and Kiwis are really well supported. Every time the warriors have a good run in the finals the whole place starts buzzing!! Everyone’s talking about it!!! I was converted by the 2002 Finals run!! and so were a a lot of other people in my age bracket (18-25). Union on the other hand, Its the establishment game of NZ Its sorta like the thing to do/ talk about. The last and union game i went to (Blues v Highlanders Never Again sooo boring!) i was in the panasonic stand and noticed groups of young kids next to me in the terraces sitting in circles drinking, chatting with there backs to the game!!!! they were there to socialise not to watch. Compare that to League crowds at the Warriors and Olympic Park (I now live in Melbourne), Staunch Leaguies Riding every run, tackle, Kick, Refs Decision in the game!! I recon League can dethrone Unioin in NZ!!!! (bold prediction i know!!!) it will take a while 20-30 years, The following things need to happen. Warriors win a premiership, Kiwis continue to be successful internationally, Another NRL team (Should Be based in Canterbury), All Blacks do not win the next world cup (Its what means the most to Union People, there not gunna put up with constant disappointment every 4 years) Also it will just take time the older generation need to die off (Sounds Morbid but true) so generation Y who has watched all sport growing up and made there own choice are adults!!
Why rugby will never die in Australia
Australian Football will never take of in New Zealand!!! The two rugby codes dominate New Zealand, I have recently moved from Auckland to Melbourne and every Kiwi that i come across cannot get there head around this bizarre game! They all find it very messy and soft compared to the hits that you get in League and Union. Aussie Rules has virtually no following amongst born and bred kiwis in NZ. Sky Sport play one game a week on a Saturday and then then the finals series in September but its hardly promoted. The NRL on the other hand is growing in popularity from year to year especially amongst the younger generation. This has all happened since they started showing League on T.V in the mid 90s also the Warriors and the Kiwis success in recent years have all helped. It is the real Sleeping Giant of NZ Sport, A Second NRL Team will really help the momentum. IMO Wellington is the wrong place for the team It Shud be down in Canterbury so it will continue With the rugby Union and social North v South rivalry. The Auckland Warriors v Canterbury Bulls games would soon become sum of the biggest dates on the NZ Sporting Calendar Up there with All backs Tests!
