While I don’t appreciate seeing yet another QLDer absolutely dominating a NSW team, and a QLD team having such a strong grip on an interstate challenge for that matter, this girl’s got it. Saw some footage of her playing for Aus recently and definitely grabbed my attention. Mind if we borrow some of that Runaway Bay water mate? 😉

Here here, Matt_S. A national comp surely is the ultimate goal for the women’s game.
I’ve been keeping an eye on the Aussie girls games, and the contact in their games is phenomenal. I think a few people will stop and reassess their perspectives on the female version of the game after the Festival of World Cups.

Thanks CC. Funny you should mention the great Neil- his daughter Sharna actually plays in the Tiger-Lillies team. He can often be heard at Rex Jackson screaming his lungs out.
When I spoke to Julie Nicoll regarding this article she mentioned the great work being done in SE QLD and that they’re well and truly ticking all the boxes to get the women’s game into full swing. Let’s hope officials south of the border follow their northern neighbours’ lead!

Definitely agree Steve. It’s the same sad story in a lot of sports unfortunately, but until the dead wood is removed by progressive thinkers, shifting attitudes is tough work. It must be a generational thing, because now we’re seeing the emergence of even more female versions of sporting codes. Just look at how successful the female version of rugby is going!
