I agree, and as I said by this point last season Western United only had two players and didn’t have a coach but losing their CEO can’t be good for the club…

Have Macarthur FC simply stalled or are they in serious strife?

Yokohama played Champions League game one week earlier.

Was Sydney FC’s ACL embarrassment the A-League’s fault or just a bloke named Ange’s?

The main problem is that Ufuk Talay has said his plan is to make a young team made up of kiwi locals. Changing his squad to mainly Australian’s would be abandoning that plan unless the Asian federation is willing to change the rules…

How can Wellington become one of the A-League’s heavyweight teams?

It’s not as much about the playing time, it’s about establishing themselves in other league’s in Australia because that’s what will help them become a heavyweight team in the A-League

How can Wellington become one of the A-League’s heavyweight teams?

I’m not signaling out Wellington in a bad way, I’m saying they have potential to become one of the A-league’s great sides.

How can Wellington become one of the A-League’s heavyweight teams?

That would go a long way in establishing them as a heavyweight within the A-League. Also, a Youth League team would help establish themselves in the A-League, not as much because the youth get played because of the league’s state but just being there would make people see them as more of a big club. I guess the main problem comes with travelling costs…

How can Wellington become one of the A-League’s heavyweight teams?

So if they made a team-up of a majority of Australians, would you think that the Asian football federation would have to consider them an Australian team?

I heard news about a rumoured change and misread it as they can now play in the ACL, but I don’t think that they can as of yet

How can Wellington become one of the A-League’s heavyweight teams?

So if they could and they made it would you consider them as one?

How can Wellington become one of the A-League’s heavyweight teams?

Apologies about that mistake, don’t know how I missed that out. I agree on your second point, and now that they seem to have a new license they are doing better, but I was inquiring if they will ever be good enough to become a true ‘heavyweight’ team in the A-League.

How can Wellington become one of the A-League’s heavyweight teams?

I don’t know, that is a factor but you saw in the ACL on Wednesday that they managed to create quite a lot of chances with a front three of Kamsoba, Toivonen and Nabbout. I do think that Mombaerts deserves more tactical credit for that game, but it wasn’t Melbourne Victory’s best performance.

How Melbourne City mummified Melbourne Victory’s attack

There are a few interpretations of the same play, but I wanted to show how th e Melbourne Victory players moved to create the overload, which is why I included so many photos of one play. It was true that Berenguer had a good game but Melbourne Victory struggled to create chances so I wanted to go more into it and find out why that was. Thanks for reading!

Well done on becoming an expert, Shabab, well deserved. I enjoy reading your tactics pieces as someone who loves tactics, but I disagree with Adelaide United using traditional wingers. Adelaide plays with a high line in possession, and to keep options open when they are recycling possession they play with a back three, with Ryan Strain usually playing as an extra centre-back in the defensive line. Ben Halloran comes deep to receive possession and help break the press, his explosive pace and composure help as he exchanges passes with players. What I see is Nikola Mileusnic often being left up top and is always an option for the long ball to relieve the pressure of the press, and can always make something out of nothing due to his pace. Thanks for the article!

The evolution of the A-League's wide men

In the last match, they started in a 3-4-2-1 formation, however, it was played with a very narrow front three. However, Scott Macdonald (who was playing right-wing on paper) was playing more of an aggressive right-attacking midfielder, and same with Brad Inman on the left. And O’Toole wasn’t starting because he had been away with the Olyroos.

I believe that Adelaide United could play similarly to how Leicester City played earlier in the season, 4-1-4-1. For me, some of Adelaide’s players are comparable to Leicester City when you layout both those teams in that formation. McGree is quite like James Maddison, the talisman of the team and always a threat to create. Troisi is like Youri Tielemans, keeps the tempo moving but also is creative and a threat near the box. Al-Hassan Toure can make something out of nothing and has moments in games where he seems untouchable, like Jamie Vardy. These are comparisons but of cause, Leicester has more quality. I am simply making observations about similar traits between players of two teams. Could you see Adelaide playing a 4-1-4-1 formation in the future?

What’s wrong at Adelaide United?

Do you mean I should have compared Troisi and Riley McGree?

What’s wrong at Adelaide United?

Italiano’s a good shout but lacks A-League experience. In my opinion, next season Newcastle will need to go into the market for a new goalkeeper outside their club. Bouzanis isn’t favoured at Melbourne City…

I don’t rate Jason Hoffman at all. How he was keeping out Angus Thurgate from starts at the beginning of the season is a true wonder to me. Apologies for the misleading information.

Who else to play in goals?

What I saw from the comments on their social media posts was that majority of the Newcastle fans weren’t happy with the decision, but I could be wrong.

Unfortunately due to apparent circumstances with his family he will most likely head back to Brisbane at the end of the season, meaning he will sign with Brisbane Roar. I loved watching him and O’Neil together, hopefully he stays!

Luke Brattan: Sydney FC's unsung hero

I was frustrated while he was being deployed as a ten at city, I always wanted to see him in the deep-playmaking role. He is excelling and it is wonderful to watch his passing range. Not only does he have the ability to play the ball over the top of defences, but he also has sprayed passes along the deck into the feet of either Baumjohann or Ninkovic, which is extremely hard to do considering the traffic of the lines in between him and more often than not delivers the ball perfectly. He is a menace off the ball, I say to my friends and family he’s like a ballet dancer on the ball but a bull off it. He winds people up and puts in crunching tackles if he stays for a few more seasons he can become a fan favourite for Sydney.

Luke Brattan: Sydney FC's unsung hero

Thanks for everything.

Former captain Milligan announces Socceroos retirement

Thanks! On that point, Corica has the plus side of having already played the Roar and will be looking to make the formation wider, and instead of Ninkovic and Baumjohann both coming into the centre in the final third, I wouldn’t be surprised if the only one did. Otherwise, the fullbacks will be told to get up higher which in contrast will mean O’Neil and Brattan will have to cover.

The high press will be scary for Sydney FC, I haven’t really seen them break the first line of press much this year, they only manage to do it in the midfield line with Baumjohann and Ninkovic.

That’s true, but what I was trying to say in this article is that it’s not just results that are looking grim for the Wanderers. They have a gem of a goalkeeper in Daniel Lopar, but their centre-backs need to improve concentration-wise in my opinion.
