Hawkins or Reiwaldt, is that serious. Why not dig up Coventry or Coleman? Agree with packaging up the draft picks to get a generational player like Jeremy Cameron, Tom Lynch and before those two Buddy and Lockett.
IMO, the Dees are the most talented at full tilt, but their hunger and hardness isn’t at the kill or be killed level.
Not sure my pies are at that crazy level either fwiw, but that’s the tonic for winning. Barassi, Matthews, Clarkson, Hafey, Sheedy. HARD AS NAILS at the contest. Jock McHale & Norm Smith a bit before my time but the stories and themes of their uncompromising leadership seem to have worked over the ages.

TOM MORRIS: Is a Luke Hodge-esque un-retirement from Jack Riewoldt exactly what Melbourne needs?

Must have blocked that one out.

Could Daicos' return backfire on the Pies? Five burning questions ahead of AFL preliminary finals

You should add losses in 1980, 1981, 2002, 2003 and 2018.

Could Daicos' return backfire on the Pies? Five burning questions ahead of AFL preliminary finals

I think it’s more about being match fit and having the touch. It’s a fair point to make but I’m backing both our Daicos boys to light it up.

Adams out and Daicos in, cannot see how that could backfire.

I’m surprised they didn’t play Macrae more during the year, he is a smooth unit and I hope we keep him, but reckon he will be underdone for the pressure of this Prelim. I’m still backing Lipinski for his class although every other pies fan seems to want him out. Ditto WHE, he is a smart footballer and I think we play better with the smart ones in the team. Ginnivan is another one that I’m just not sure about. Ironic if Noble gets the call given he clashed with Adams but he is not big enough to mix it with the mids.

With all due respect to the anti Victorian vibes, it is our game and although welcome, you are still guests to our competition. Floreat Pica.

Finals Fix: They just pumped Port - and here's why the Giants might be Collingwood's worst nightmare too

Fair points there Angela except Collingwood and/or Carlton is what the ground is made for, Epic clashes between the biggest titans of the game. Bit rough on Leon but respect the views.

Finals Fix: They just pumped Port - and here's why the Giants might be Collingwood's worst nightmare too

A team relaxed seems to be the tonic for success. Pies last year, Blues second half this year and it’s a different team.
I thought Leon Cameron was a good coach but a cautionary tale for all clubs is that sometimes we need a new voice and that could be the case for Kenny from Camperdown at Port.
Giants looked very good so game on at the Gee. Go Pies.

Welcome aboard, plenty of room at the People’s Club

Finals Fix: How Melbourne killed their season with the butcher job to end all butcher jobs

It’s pressure football and they’re doing it too well for my liking.

Finals Fix: How Melbourne killed their season with the butcher job to end all butcher jobs

Why on Earth did they not play Grundy. Should have won but in hindsight lost it at selection.

Finals Fix: How Melbourne killed their season with the butcher job to end all butcher jobs

I reckon McRae is coaching Voss how to coach, damn that was a good game and the last gasp goal is eerily similar to Pies last year. The Evil Brown Paper Baggers are now well and truly on the loose.

John Greening was #22 I recall from old photos. In a coma for a week. Was in papers last 10 years lamenting the thuggery of his time and how much he appreciated the skills of today. Returned v Richmond the next year, kicked five goals and retired up north. Before his time and bashed out of the game. No way is this Maynard thing anything like that and the carry on is just so ridiculous. Maynard plays hard but is not dirty. Anyone who has played footy and has watched footy should know the difference. We celebrate the greats of our game and guess what, quite a few of them were thugs. It’s a much better game without the dog acts but to even remotely put this incident in that context is moronic, imo.

Still angry about it nonetheless????

This is Gold Chris, love it.

'Wanted to hit, wanted to hurt': Brayden Maynard - the guilty man found innocent

Simpleton, really?
I initially thought a week and then read through the arguments and all up it was an accident. Sure the contact was intended, it’s a contact sport for goodness sakes and AFL is well advised to tweak its rules, again and again, until it’s a Cotchin or a Cripps or a Selwood etc. all for consistency but not sure this is the ditch to die in.

Naughty, the ex player is his brother so of course he is outraged. The one Gaff clocked, I think. Is it poor luck or a conspiracy against the Brayshaws?
As for Collingwood bias let me remind everyone about Phil Carmen in 77, Jason Cloke in 2002 and Anthony Rocca in 2003. All missed GF’s due to suspension. Contrast that with Barry Hall getting off and Cripps last year. No favours for pies in history of tribunals that I can recall.

TOM MORRIS: Inside the AFL's call to overrule MRO on Maynard - and how Tribunal verdict will shape the game

Hope you’re right there Tom. Think AFL is obligated to set a standard though. Suspect they give him a week and put the ball in pies court as to whether an appeal is worth the risk.
Should note we all hope young Brayshaw gets to play again.

TOM MORRIS: Inside the AFL's call to overrule MRO on Maynard - and how Tribunal verdict will shape the game

Gawn, Oliver and Petracca on song is best in the league for mine. Curnow, like Jeremy Cameron can win any game but also think the May and Lever combination is the best going around. Hunter and Langdon on the wings is fairly handy as well.

Should the Blues be... favourites? Five burning questions ahead of AFL semi finals

I’m with you on this one Pete, it did not seem as though they dominated even though the stats say they did. In Q2 and Q4 it was obvious the pies went into full flood mode to choke their forwards. Richmond end was clearly the scoring end so it looked tactical in the sense McRae backed our backs against their forwards to hold the game. Gawn, Oliver and Petracca dominated after quarter time but with 25 points to the good going into the last the pies went quite defensive. Winning ugly in the end is still a win and I liked the grittiness of the team effort.

Should the Blues be... favourites? Five burning questions ahead of AFL semi finals

Thx Tim, in no particular order:
1. The MCG is not Marvel or the Gabba so I do not buy into the Lions dominance trope. They feel like front runners which could be hard to reign in so best not let them out of the gate and had Port kicked a little straighter I wonder if the pressure might have got inside their heads.
2. Why on earth would Dees not play Grundy. He has a point to prove, is excellent around the ground and not a complete muppet in the ruck. A five minute chop out each qtr to release the fantastic Gawn to full forward and that could well be the difference.
3. Blues run is sensational, no question about the turn around and quality of their side. But do they truly believe or did they play their GF last week?
4. Port will smash Giants at home. They will be hurting with a point to prove and no way will they kick so poorly again. Agree with some other comments about the coach though, should’ve waited until seasons end in my humble.
5. Think Dees will kick into gear, Fritsch will be much better for the run and if Gawn, Oliver and Petracca rinse and repeat I sense they will have the edge.
6. I am relieved pies on the interstate side of the draw because if the traditional rivals were to face off for the prelim, be it Melbourne or Carlton, then there won’t be much left in the tank for the next week.

Should the Blues be... favourites? Five burning questions ahead of AFL semi finals

Reckon blues or Dees will have much left in the tank after slugging it out this week to take on lions at the Gabba? It’s a tough ask of any side and really the luck of the draw.

Finals Fix: The Lions just cracked September after four years of trying - and everyone else should be terrified

True but that goes for all the teams, including saints and port who had plenty of chances but blew the lot. Dees and swans could have snatched it except for one very noticeable approach, pies and blues got out in front and had the mettle to hold on. It’s not home and away but finals football with it all on the line. Pies last year said often they practice for the close ones and thx Carlton boys were saying the same thing Friday night. Lions incredibly gifted team but the rest of those remaining are all hard nuts. It’s close.

Finals Fix: The Lions just cracked September after four years of trying - and everyone else should be terrified

Lions at Gabba should get there but so will Port at home. They missed so many shots in front of goal the momentum had to go with Brisbane so the score blew out a bit. That’s not gonna happen in Adelaide so another Pies v Power Preliminary for mine. Who wins out of Dees & Blues is a bit of a coin toss but can only imagine it’s gonna be a very hard match to back up from to reload again at the Gabba.
