Well we can put a fork in Brisbane, they’re cooked.

The Pear will do the Aints easily at home, even though they’ll be fired up after being touched up by the mighty Dogs last week.

I reckon the Blues forward line power and size in the middle will be too much for the Cats.

The Dogs look much better than Freo on paper; wear the onslaught for the first 10 minutes and they should beat them comfortably. Freo’s forward line looks like Walters or bust, and Walters has hardly touched the ball this year; take out the 21 against Adelaide and he’s had 35 touches in 5 games.

GC vs WC will be a non-event with the lowest crowd of the year.

The Swans have the bye…but seriously, isn’t it nice to have a bye-less round, albeit one that takes 2 weeks to complete.

Pertinent to what?

It’s absolutely true. I know this for a fact.

'Murky decision-making, novice administration and unaccountable governance' - how the AFL has fallen

I don’t give a crap about the state thing, that’s not my point at all.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions, Anzac Round: Who takes the biscuits on the season's longest weekend?

I have a real problem with “ANZAC day eve”. Melbourne will win by 10 goals in a game that should be played on the weekend.

Why is there a game on tomorrow night? Talk about the AFL commercialising ANZAC day…

Yes this is definitely something to be encouraged.

You’re fine because you’re “them”.

They’re not a business, the AFL is not a business. The AFL clubs don’t pay money to the AFL. The AFL clubs have members. The AFL bears the risk of the new clubs, not the clubs. The AFL set up is nothing like a franchise set up.

If anything, you could argue that they’re subsidiaries, but they’re not, because the AFL isn’t a business.

Collingwood – last year.

'Murky decision-making, novice administration and unaccountable governance' - how the AFL has fallen

Very very good point, and one that most people don’t understand. Another example – the AFL has been ripping the heart out of footy in country Victoria ever since it took over from the VCFL. And the fees they charge leagues and clubs are abominable, all so they can syphon that money into some “growth” project.

The AFL doesn’t view itself as the custodian of the game; it views itself as the owner of the game, where brand and the top end of town is everything. We have local footballers paying fees to play footy so Gil and Dillon can pay themselves multimillion dollar paychecks to manage a mid-sized not-for-profit organisation. It’s disgusting. CEO’s of much larger corporations, who are beholden to corporate governance and laws, get paid less and have smaller executives.

'Murky decision-making, novice administration and unaccountable governance' - how the AFL has fallen

They’re not franchises in the AFL, I don’t know why people on here insist on using that term…they don’t have father/son but they have a perpetual hand of high draft picks thanks to their concessions when they started. That more than makes up for it. They just offload some players who were high draft picks each year and keep themselves at the top of the draft board.

'Murky decision-making, novice administration and unaccountable governance' - how the AFL has fallen

That’s how the AFL get away with what they do – the ingrained tribal passions of footy fans. If the AFL was not a sporting organization they would have gone bust many times over by now; people just wouldn’t tolerate their crap.

'Murky decision-making, novice administration and unaccountable governance' - how the AFL has fallen

Great rant Lez, one of your finest. I agree with everything here, the AFL is a joke of an organisation that runs a sports entertainment business (not for profit) not a professional sporting league.

The manipulation on top of manipulation has made their core purpose, to administrate a professional sporting league, totally lost.

The worst thing is the way they control the footy media so there is no accountability at all.

Speaking of manipulations, the worst one of the lot is the latest one – let GWS and GC keep their academies whilst everyone else has to wait til after pick 30 to access their academy players. That’s what destroyed last year’s draft. GC, after a decade of free picks and handouts, were able to take 4 first round players in the one draft. It’s so manipulated that winning a premiership just isn’t worth what it used to be.

Nope, he’s been bog average all year.

Six Points: Greene lucky to only get a week, 2024's two best wins, and the moment that sums up woeful Roos

I can’t believe Greene got suspended for competing for the ball, albeit he was about a 1/4 of a second late, whilst Pendelbury got off for whacking a bloke in the guts. The idea that players shouldn’t protect themselves when they know they’re going to be hit is ludicrous. I dare anyone to run at a brick wall and not brace for impact; that’s what the AFL expects players to do.

The AFL has jumped the shark.

Sydney and GWS were flag favourites after round 2. The footy media has an attention span of one week, no more.

Most people with non-purple eyes would say that Fyfe is but a shadow of the player he used to be.

I’ve gotta agree with the ANZAC day point. I’ve felt for a while now that the AFL has taken over the day and made it about footy and not what it should be about; a reflection of the sacrifices of our service personnel and the futility of war.
The ANZAC day jumpers and services before every game, even when they’re not of ANZAC day, is just commercialisation.

Six Points: Greene lucky to only get a week, 2024's two best wins, and the moment that sums up woeful Roos

Naughton to the backline, and a Lobb, Darcy, JUH forward line.

Footy Fix: The Saints were ten times as rubbish as the Dogs were last week - and it's worth working out why

The Dogs went 6-day, 6-day. Does one day make a difference? Probably. Should either team, let alone both teams, have successive 6-day or less breaks? No. That’s the AFL fixture; it’s an unfair abomination.

Footy Fix: The Saints were ten times as rubbish as the Dogs were last week - and it's worth working out why

Vandermeer still panicking and botching his kicks? I wonder if Garcia to a forward flank and Vandermeer to the twos could be a move.

Footy Fix: The Saints were ten times as rubbish as the Dogs were last week - and it's worth working out why

Foolish to overreact to one bad game from the Dogs last week? The media had Bevo fighting for his life, Macrae and Daniel out the door and Bont sniffer an exit!

I didn’t get to watch the game, how did Garcia go? He’s been very good in the twos, I’m hoping he can find some confidence in the seniors.

Footy Fix: The Saints were ten times as rubbish as the Dogs were last week - and it's worth working out why

143…that’s the magic number. That’s my position on the Roar tipping ladder and also how many points the Dogs will kick in their win tonight…These teams will also kick winning scores:
– Crom (HGA, they’ve maybe clicked into gear)
– Cold pies (MCGHGA will be enough to get them home)
– Baggers (HGA, I’m surprised how all-in people are on the big boys; they’ve beaten a putrid Collingwood, Norf, West Coast, Lifeguards and fell over the line against the Aints. Talk about a dream fixture)
– Lions (don’t you love the inconsistency of the tribunal…they’re back which means the Gabbatoir is back. Alas, no Denver this week)
– Freeeo (the Weagles played their GF last week, back to earth)
– Swans (why aren’t they the black swans?…the Lifeguards are no good, this will be easy)
– Dorks (the battle for the spoon is on, will Clarkson tank? Will Clarkson’s protege tank? This could be a nil-all draw)

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions, Round 6: Can the Bulldogs bounce back after a week of scrutiny?

The difference is that people at Fox Sports don’t have personal animosity towards them. Fox has been after Bevo for several years now and they’ve ramped it up to hysterical levels this year.

The reality is that they almost got over their bogey team in Geelong and kicked themselves out of the game against Essendon (22 scoring shots to 21). Win both of those games and Bevo is a genius sitting at 4-1.

The way Fox is carrying on you’d think they’re getting flogged each week. People who watch the Dogs closely would know that they lacked speed and Macrae, Dale and Daniel have been quite ordinary for a while. If Bevo kept on doing the same thing they would have the same results and Fox would be all over him; he’s damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t.

Plus, the Dogs list is heavily reliant on its stars – the role players have been VFL level for a few years now. People think that the coach matters; he doesn’t, the cattle matters. Just look at Clarkson at Hawthorn vs Clarkson at Norf for example.

Luke Beveridge is on borrowed time - he's an inconsistent coach who gets inconsistent results
