The best outcome would be a Sydney v Geelong grand final. There would be next to zero neutral support for Collingwood, and Geelong isn’t exactly an underdog story. At least Syd v Cats satisfy some broader loathings –
– NSW v Vic (although, prob more a syd v melb thing)
– Any club except a Vic club v VFL club only

And, the added bonus, BT won’t be barracking for Collingwood during the game… although he will barrack for the Cats.

AFL Finals Focus: Clinical Cats almost played the perfect prelim. The one thing that went wrong could cost them the flag

No way would he be worse than Hird, but, i accept your point that Pyke was poor in not recognising serious issues with the camp.
If Essendon are after ‘proven’, options are slim.

Dear Essendon: Please, PLEASE, make James Hird your coach again. Sincerely, everyone

Agreed. Pyke has senior coaching experience, a GF appearance, assistant gigs at a few big clubs. Crows nightmare camp, whilst bad, is an experience he would have learnt from. There is probably good untried coaches who are capable, but, if they want someone a bit more ‘proven’, Pyke is ideal.

Dear Essendon: Please, PLEASE, make James Hird your coach again. Sincerely, everyone

I suspect interviewing Hird was part of an effort to appease certain factions, but, will not go any further.

I suspect there is now a herd of people who have heard about Hird

AFL News: Berry avoids ban, Eagles salty over Rioli's exit, Long wants out, De Goey contract value soaring

Port will have to produce something better than late 2nd round to get that trade done. West Coast not happy going by the press release.

AFL News: Jackson makes his choice, McRae admits he messed up, Zorko restores image, Dees duo banned

Nice work 13th 👍
Happy to let Lobb go for a nicely haggled price, but, as mentioned, not if we don’t have a good replacement lined up… he could potentially have a very positive season for us next year though, especially with Amiss sharing the load.
Like many, i don’t want to sell the farm for Jackson. I hope he sees Freo’s set up, and makes himself more accommodating to an offer as a whole… but the West Coast pull, as seen with Tim Kelly, will make it hard. So young, and so much development/improvement ahead, and wants home, is hard to ignore.
Footy Classified last night said there is a push by Clarko, et al, to get Bell in as CEO at North… that would be my biggest fear, losing Peter Bell. Bell said whilst he would be flattered by an approach, esp given his succesful playing days at Roos, he was committed to his Freo journey. Will be happier when North announce someone elso as their ceo. I rate Bell highly, and he is instrumental to a tilt at the flag.

This is the Dockers' biggest off-season ever - can they set up a crack at 'Flagmantle' in 2023?

Would just like to thank Melbourne for lighting up the local landmarks in purple in support of Fremantle’s away game this evening. Truly touching.

AFL moves Brownlow date to avoid clash with the Queen's funeral

Pies definitely the favourites this weekend. Be careful not to count your duck dinners before they come home to roast 😛
This is great finals experience for Freo, at the MCG in front of the collingwood feral faithful. We are capable of winning this game, but, we can’t afford a poor q1, like last week, if we are to actually win.
I hope this is a cracker 👍

AFL News: Lions' MASSIVE Joe blow hours before semi final, Seven consider axing Carey over Crown 'white powder' incident

Quite a few people have made the same observation, including myself.
They are starting to really annoy their consumers.
All it would take is some snappy upstart to put up a rival website, and many would go and check it out.

Rugby Australia must follow the AFL's lead to rejuvenate the sport... and bring in the money

I think continued international growth, however slow, and gambling revenue will keep cricket in tier 1.

Also, Crown casino in Perth was forced to have a clear out of upper management recently after it was found to have willingly flouted regulations around money laundering… the new head had been on the job for 4 days, and already the police commissioner has given him public lashing for failing to report the crime. Unbelievable.

AFL News: Lions' MASSIVE Joe blow hours before semi final, Seven consider axing Carey over Crown 'white powder' incident

Probably not worth showing the game that we know the outcome of.
Unless… Melbourne FC are such staunch monarchists, and def the most likely of all the clubs, that they are inconsolably grief stricken, that the team just can’t bring themselves to play. Yeah, that’s how the Lions win tonight –

What happens to Queen’s Birthday holiday and game?
Should the small Melbourne clubs make an early claim to a King’s Birthday marquee game?

I wonder how the AFL/ch7 will pay tribute to QE2 this evening.
Please be tacky.

😂
Summer is rooting time, the players gotta learn to tarp up.

Not many would take the words out of Carey’s mouth as truthful.
If he had voluntarily undergone a drug test, and i think a hair test is still do able, then he might be believable.

That is a valid reason to not go there. However, he said he ‘felt no vibe from Essendon’ after enquiring about the process, and that he was competing against several candidates. I suspect he would feel a ‘vibe’ if he were the sole candidate, especially after the failed Carlton bid. And, this doesn’t mean he can’t coach… i think he could lift a team up the ladder, including Essendon.

Lyon feeling “no vibe” from Essendon does reek of ‘I expect unfettered adoration’.

Do you mean league (rugby league)? The code war commentary, in this thread, is afl v nrl… rugby (rugby union) has hardly been mentioned. It may sound pedantic, but they are different sports. Rugby is 15 man – think Wallabies and private school boys, league is 13 man – think SoO and “shitting in Schlossy’s shoe”
I agree with your comment about wandering into another code’s article to puff out your chest.

AFL News: Seven, Foxtel sign $4.5b broadcast deal, NicNat targeted by racist trolls, Prelim draw locked in

Ch7 news in Perth just reported that there were higher financial bids than that of 7west/foxtel, but the 60yr association with ch7 and high foxtel subscriptions got them over the line.
It looks like Gil might have a role at 7west or newscorp next year.

What a grubby pervert to record at a nudey bar, and Dusty groping the woman, and, finally, the commercial decision by a news outlet in the timing to release the footage in the ‘public interest’.

We lost Fyfe, and might only have one tall in our forward line – Lobb, Logue, Tabs all under an injury cloud.
Weather forecast improving so that is a bonus.
