North Queenslander born and bred. I enjoy watching Rugby League, Union and Cricket. On the weekends you may see me shouting at the refs from the Southern Stand at 1300 SMILES Stadium or playing on a rank turner at the Wanderers' Cricket Club. Congratulations to the Australian National Cricket Team for bringing home the Ashes. Now, time to take out the Proteas.

Haha, good point Ronan. Miracles do happen though. De Villiers is looking good but they don’t have any specialist batsmen left. I think Philander is batting at no. 6.

South Africa vs Australia: First Test, Day Two live scores, blog

True, hence the huge appeal from the Aussie team and myself from the couch.

Oh Dear. The Saffas are in a spot of bother now. Can they make 250+ yet?

They really hate Warner as well, this from The Guardian also:

If his prolific stays at the crease this summer haven’t been enough for you, Channel Nine sure have gone out of their way to ensure you won’t miss a second of the Dave Warner show. Post-innings interviews, pre-recorded interviews, plus maddeningly frequent and creepily specific digressions into his love life with ironwoman Candice Falzon turned Nine into Channel Warner during the Perth Test.

I really didn’t mind them, he has played an exceptional series and deserves the plaudits.

Aussie victory tastes even sweeter for English taunts

I’m still going to respect England and not underestimate them. A team of proven champions, they’ll hit back. We might be slightly ahead in the betting stakes now, but their performance in the 2010-11 series is still fresh in my mind.

Dizzy's Diary: Australia expose Trott and Swann in the first Ashes Test

Yep, the word just in is that Trott has left the squad to return home, citing he needs some time away from cricket to recover from ‘depression’.

Dizzy's Diary: Australia expose Trott and Swann in the first Ashes Test

Nope, neither am I but I agree with him entirely.

RLWC: England vs New Zealand, who should you go for?

Agreed, good move by McNamara but Widdop should have been the starting pivot. He should have at least moved him in for the second pool game.

England drop Chase for RLWC semi

It seems as though we are witnessing a few late bloomers come into contention for the Aussie team. Rogers, North, Cowan, Bailey and there were even calls for Katich to return a few months ago.

ASHES: Talking points from the first Test, day two

Yep, he’ll have to settle back in but he has a good conversion rate of half centuries into tons. And usually when he scores a century he goes on to make 150+.

ASHES: Talking points from the first Test, day two

It just goes to show that anything can happen in test cricket, a match can be turned on its head in the space of a few minutes. That’s what many casual fans of cricket don’t understand, you can’t clearly state that one side is winning most of the time until at least both sides have completed their innings. Hopefully Australia don’t collapse like that in this innings. I would love to see the team make 250 at least, 300 to make me feel really safe on Sunday morning.

Ashes: England obliterated on Day 2 at the Gabba

Joe is looking more and more like a dud Root with every innings.

Ashes: England obliterated on Day 2 at the Gabba

Great day of play Australia. Still 3 more to play but things are looking up for the first time in an age. Cheers to the entire bowling unit for a great team effort. Especially to Johnson after a poor opening spell. After seeing that I though it would be just like 2010 all over again but cudos to him for producing one of the greater spells I have ever seen. Now its up to the batsmen to get us to 250 at least, over 300 and we will be in a nearly insurmountable position. We should still then have around 2 days to take 10 English wickets, weather permitting. Come on Australia!

ASHES: Talking points from the first Test, day two

I’ll drink to that!

ASHES: Talking points from the first Test, day two

Great to see North in great form. Agreed, if Bailey or Watson continue to have poor games, North would be a fine replacement.

ASHES: Talking points from the first Test, day two

I think he’s a real chance of making a big score in this match, it looks like only he can get himself out. If we can make at least 250, I don’t see a way the English can take the game back.

ASHES: Talking points from the first Test, day two

+1 yep I hope

Phil Rothfield, I have a question for you

Why do trolls keep singling out that lone game? Sure the crowd for the USA v Australia game was sub par, but given it was played in Wales and contested by two foreign teams, I think that it can be forgiven. Also given that the US team knocked out the Welsh at the same ground a few weeks prior, I doubt the locals would have attended to cheers them on. Basically they would have been picking between the best team in the world or the team which knocked out theirs. Lesser of two evils. It’s akin to the Socceroos playing Spain in New Zealand, with the Socceroos knocking out New Zealand the week before. I doubt the Kiwis would attend that match in their droves. All of England’s pool games have been sellouts (25,000 against Ireland, 25,000 against Fiji and 22,000 against France) so don’t say that ‘even the home nation can’t sell out its games’. Don’t be ignorant, despite that one poor crowd, almost all of the the games have been sold out. Get ready to witness some more big crowds coming up this weekend and next weekend. Can’t wait for the final of the best World Cup ever.

Phil Rothfield, I have a question for you

England got 22,000 to their QF game against France, New Zealand pulled a capacity crowd against Scotland in Warrington as well. 2.2 million English watched the England v Fiji game last week. I think this World Cup is going just fine, breaking records left, right and center. Looking forward to another big crowd at the double header next week before a sellout at Old Trafford. Perhaps the small crowd at Wrexham could be explained by the fact 2 non Welsh teams were playing in Wales, including the team which knocked out Wales a few weeks ago.

Slater injured as Australia beat USA 62-0

Not a huge fan of basketball but I’ll read anything that references Breaking Bad. To all fans of the show, I recommend looking out for the Vince Gilligan led spinoff called “Better Call Saul”. Apparently, a lot of the characters from Breaking Bad will appear in the show, such as Mike, Huell and Kumy, and even potentially drop ins from Walt and Jesse.

New Zealand break bad? Better call Gary!

A pity isn’t the phrase I would use. It’s good that international league is getting stronger but I do remember times back when just about anyone could don the 7 jersey for the Kangaroos.

Lewis reflects on Kangaroos redemption

Bring back the Lions and Ashes Series. The more test matches the better.

Australia needs to make space for rugby league internationals

I hope to see a very close and intense match as well Bra Bra. It was a shame the Kumuls lost their opening game, they came so close. It’s going to be quite hard for them to win a game now but with the Kumuls, you never know. With enough passion and a drive to win, you can succeed anywhere.

Fiji eye Kangaroos after RLWC win

That video still gives me goosebumps. That along with the Mark Coyne miracle try are two of my favourite pre Origin pump up videos.

Bighead Burgess needs to cut out the crap

Danny Brough played a great game. I could only fault him on two of his kicks, one where the Scots had just received a penalty and he kicked on the first tackle, and the other a chip kick where a grubber probably would have been more appropriate. Other than that, his kicking game was first class and his defence was as tenacious as a border collie. Definitely lead from the front and played a captains knock.
