North Queenslander born and bred. I enjoy watching Rugby League, Union and Cricket. On the weekends you may see me shouting at the refs from the Southern Stand at 1300 SMILES Stadium or playing on a rank turner at the Wanderers' Cricket Club. Congratulations to the Australian National Cricket Team for bringing home the Ashes. Now, time to take out the Proteas.

That’s a fair point, the forwards would have to be shuffled a bit. I wouldn’t take Cameron Smith as a Union hooker, although he can probably be a gun player at whatever he put his mind to.

All Blacks vs Kangaroos: the ultimate Bledisloe Cup clash

Australia didn’t beat Great Britain in a League test series until 1920, or abroad until 1958. I don’t think the few matches played against New Zealand at the turn of the century are an appropriate gauge for the then skill levels of Australia.

All Blacks vs Kangaroos: the ultimate Bledisloe Cup clash

I can’t really talk on the AB’s behalf because I refuse to watch Wallabies v All Blacks Test matches anymore (national embarrassment) but I think the Kangaroos are definitely on par, if not, superior to them. I don’t think at AB’s would “monster” the Kangaroos as you say Sheek, with Matt Scott, Gallen and co in the team? Don’t make me laugh. I would agree that the “backrowers” are too short to be lineout jumpers though, Tamou is tall enough to play in the backrow, as well as Myles. Perhaps a Dane Tilse/Gavin Cooper type player would have to be drafted in?

All Blacks vs Kangaroos: the ultimate Bledisloe Cup clash

Brilliant article, sums up everything great about international league and the Kangaroos. Bring on the 26th!

Ghosts of Aussie past to help Kangaroos

This World Cup will be a true spectacle. Realistically any of the top 3 nations are a good chance of winning. Kangaroos deserve to be favourites though. As for people saying the Kangaroos are too old, didn’t “dad’s army” Queensland beat NSW again this year? Class is permanent and a team full of veterans is a good thing, although admittedly there are a few players who weren’t picked in the squad who I thought should have been. Brenton Lawrence had a great season, as did Watmough. Does anyone know if Watmough is injured because otherwise, I can’t understand why he wasn’t selected.

Did you play NRL Dream Team this year Cleveland?

Slater unfazed by 2008 RLWC nightmare

Thankyou Scott. Going by your assessment, I’m feeling a bit nervous now. I don’t know what the board was thinking letting Segeyaro and more recently, Hodges leave. I was really looking forward to Grevsmuhl playing for the Cowboys first grade side next year as well but he’s gone as well. At least King is young and can still develop his skills. Ray Thompson was in great form before he got injured so hopefully he can continue that into next season and the Cowboys should have a decent hooking combo.

Cameron Smith to Brisbane Broncos deal: coup or crazy?

Bailey’s form at the moment should certainly be gaining the selectors attention, although I would like to see him play some shield, where his figures aren’t fantastic. Still, going on current form you’d think he would be a better option then some of the other batsmen under consideration.

Australia draw first blood in India ODI series

I have to agree with Jerry, never a fan of the high five.

The best High Five fails in sporting history

The Panthers will be a top 8 side for sure next year. Judging by what they accomplished on their roster this year and with all the new players coming in, I think they will finish between 4-7.

Looking back at the Penrith Panthers' 2013 season

I reckon England will account for the Kiwi’s, who seem to struggle in the Old Dart. If they can beat Australia or at least go very close in the opener then it will make for a very interesting contest. England have a terrific forward pack and if they can bog Australia down in the trenches, then I think they stand a reasonable chance of beating them,

Rugby League World Cup preview: can England conquer the world?

Hopefully the great game can make some inroads into Ireland, there is definitely some great growth potential there.

With Pat Richards in vintage form, they can achieve the improbable.

Too right mate. I’ll be watching as many games as possible this World Cup.

Rugby League World Cup preview: Ireland's toughest RLWC yet

This is most certainly a coup. The Broncos will have a worldbeating team in 2 years if Milford, Barba, K Hunt and Smith all sign up. What a momentous day for QRL, the prodigal son returns home. On another note, can anyone tell me if Cameron King was a good signing by the Cowboys? From what I’ve heard he is a very good young player.

Cameron Smith to Brisbane Broncos deal: coup or crazy?

I have to agree with you on Weyman and Bailey Oikee. They are two of my all time favourite NSW props (along with O’Meley). It should be mandatory for all props to have bald heads, it makes them look so much more intimidating.

NRL season review: Broncos, Cowboys and Titans

It should be a cracking match, the PM’s XIII games are always a speculate of our great game. They need to be televised though, at least on pay tv, but it would be great if one of the FTA channels could show it. I think Matt Bowen should have been in the lineup, but it’s good to see Gavin Cooper rewarded for a strong season.

PM's XIII to take on PNG named

If it was truly Karma, then it should have waited until next week to give the Sharkies a win against Manly.

Referee blues continue

Too right mate, 2 years in a row, are the refs planning on making it 8 or something?

Can semi-finals games be re-scheduled if there is enough backlash to controversial rulings?

Oh, don’t feed the trolls they say. Tell that to the 17 Cowboys players mate and I’m sure they’d tell you differently. They definitely deserved to be there, but the refs cost them again.

Thanks for everything you have done for our club Bowen, nearly pulled another rabbit out of the hat there.

Do the Cowboys ever get a break?

I think 2010 and 2011 were more entertaining seasons than 2012 and 2013, but what are you going to do. Hopefully the teams more noted for their attacking prowess (Cowboys, Tigers, Warrior etc) are stronger next year with hopefully the Eels and Canberra returning to decent form. Give me a year without the Storm and Manly being in the Top 8 and it will instantly become my favorite.

Let's face it, it's been a poor NRL season

Nice post matt, It’s always worth focusing on the positives which always outweigh the negatives, well, at least from a Queenslander’s point of view.
