Journos getting the early scoop on team selections has been part and parcel of the game for as long as I can remember and no other coach has had an issue with it. Your coach is a snowflake who has a history of unprofessional behaviour and you come across as a one eyed n@ff with your over the top defence of him

For the Bulldogs' sake - and his own - Luke Beveridge needs to pull his head in

he has a lot of form too, think he comes from the malthouse/Sheedy/Clarko school of siege mentality type coaches except he seems a bit of a meathead that cant deliver his rants in a coherent manner.

I commented in the live blog that he is the new malthouse…but wow this post match outburst is another level.

Your comment says “squeezed the life out of YOUR midfield” so that would indicate your suggesting hes an essendon supporter instead of a neutral commentator.

AFL 2022 Radar: 'Will the real Western Bulldogs please stand up'

Yeah ok mate if you can honestly sit there and watch the draper and merrett incidents and argue they were legitimate frees then you lose all credibility. Weightman comes from the puopolo/lindsay thomas school of small forwards and sucked the umpires in. Fair play to him, every small forward tries their luck in this situations but I would expect umps chosen for a final to a bit wiser to gamesmanship like that.

Pretty funny that you all assume cameron is a one eyed essendon supporter. Hes a well known richmond supporter but that doesnt suit Pies’ narrative that only essendon supporters disagreed with the calls. He also chooses to focus on the essendon game and ignore the comment cam makes about the brisbane game because its not as easy to dismiss as the other team not being up to it.

AFL 2022 Radar: 'Will the real Western Bulldogs please stand up'

theyre the definition of a momentum team. they look unstoppable when they ride the positive momentum like in the 2016 finals and the prelim/first half of GF last year, but the dees found another gear and the dogs looked like deers in the headlights after that point. Im still in awe of the performance of oliver and trac in that 2nd half, to take on that dogs midfield and completely obliterate them is still unbelievable.

AFL 2022 Radar: 'Will the real Western Bulldogs please stand up'

Two things can be true at the same time mate. The dons were poor in the 2nd half AND the dogs got 5 goals from questionable free kicks when the game was well and truly in the balance. I know you will reply “rules are rules, the frees were there” but thats pretty hypocritical from someone who loves to whinge about the afl meddling with the rules too much. In any previous era those frees wouldnt be given, its only due to the current afl management’s obsession with opening the game up and increasing scoring that we get such pedantic interpretations of the rules.

I think you are going to cop some backlash today but I think you were spot on re the their first two finals, tim english being under the pump and their lack of KPP depth. They remind me of a better version of buckleys pies, a deep list of onballers covers for weaknesses in the back and front half but when they meet teams that can either match them at the coalface or stifle their star mids they look a bit soft and leaderless.

AFL 2022 Radar: 'Will the real Western Bulldogs please stand up'

Honestly cant see any of these teams moving out of the bottom 5. there is a big gap between them and even the next rung of teams. Can only really see any of these teams leapfrog the eagles if theyre preseason from hell gets worse during the first few rounds.

AFL Oracle: Which bottom-five team from last year can surge into finals in 2022?

re aussie psyche, I think cricket players more than any sport in aus really embody the sort of old school aussie guy depicted in “wake in fright”. So much focus on forced “mateship” and no time for individual identity. I think it boils down to the fact it really more a group of individuals playing together than a genuine team sport so the playing group (especially in the waugh era) needed to concoct this whole baggy green/under the southern cross identity. I think the new generation of players are ready to move on from it and most younger supporters are too.

The toxic, cancerous culture of Australian cricket

warne having a go at the players for being too sensitive and not toughening up and heeding the coach’s directives is both the least self aware and least surprising comment so far. Warnie yet again providing proof that those that are legends on the field can also be complete t00ls in all other aspects of life.

most of the lefties on this thread are condemning her views too. its actually you displaying the rank hypocrisy here. happy to shout about freedom of speech till its convenient for you to flip because it suits your culture wars.

Similar to Tom McDonald if anyone has had a brief look at what he posts, likes and follows on social media would not be surprised by this turn of events.

Unvaccinated Eagles star banned from training

Super rugby was dead to me the moment they moved to the conference system. the reduction in inter country matches and focus on local derbys may have saved costs but took away the biggest selling point of the comp. As you mention the introduction of the salary cap amongst aus teams was also a silly move. I think RA and SANZAAR have suffered the fate that many corporations do when they have financial issues and uninspiring leadership, they focus on how to save costs in the short term instead of how to generate more revenue in the long term.

Why Super Rugby is broken and how Australia must shift the focus to save domestic game

good to see the AFL is going to get tighter on holding the ball and incorrect disposal this year. Bevo will have to rejig his whole gameplan.

2022 AFL season preview: Can Essendon get back to the finals?

Sounds like Reid still hasnt joined the main training group so think you are on the money that it will be either end of this year or next year that he will push his way into the 22. I think stewart has some upside still as he came back from a long lay off after a bad hamstring tear at start of season so didnt have as much time as laverde to get used to the positional switch.
looks like my comment has been deleted because I mentioned Nick C’s full surname 😂

2022 AFL season preview: Can Essendon get back to the finals?

Francis has been training with the forward line all pre-season, you would think its a make or break year for him. From all accounts his fitness seems a lot better than previous preseasons so hopefully he can have an impact and address some of the depth issues we have in forward line.

Other than that the only other improvements the dons can have are from getting full seasons out of mcgrath, caldwell, draper and shiel plus the continuing improvement of young guys like perkins, jones and cox and the potential for reid/baldwin to play more senior games. Will this be enough to counter the harder fixture though? hard to say at this point

2022 AFL season preview: Can Essendon get back to the finals?

I thought before the game that the dees had a clear strength in their tall stocks but that, despite the dees having two of the top 3 mids, the dogs had the edge in the midfield due to the depth of quality. I was right regarding my first point, beveridge does not respect the importance of big men and he finally got punished for being too cute with his selections. Regarding my 2nd point, i still think the dogs on paper have the best midfield depth in the comp but what became clear yesterday (and in the last three H&A games) is there are alot of downhill skiers in that group that arent willing to do the defensive work that lesser lights like harmes and viney do. I think the number 1 culprit is libba, hes a “see ball, get ball” mid and really let his team down in the third quarter when he was playing on the defensive side for most of the centre clearances and was found in no mans land many times.

'One minute to end 57 years of pain': Talking points from Melbourne's extraordinary premiership win

I couldnt believe the difference in the language used by the ref with this incident vs the swinton tackle. Swinton needs to sort his technique out and is playing with fire but it wasnt a clear cut head shot yet the ref was very keen to call it an RC till the TMO insisted he re-analyze timing of shoulder on shoulder vs head on head. WIth this clean out it was very obvious from all angles it was clear shoulder to head with force yet the ref didnt even consider an RC.
