A case for a rethink of the Wallabies' 23

No obviously not Conor! 😉 But he would have been a handy addition surely?

It amuses me when people say how poor NH club rugby is when we still struggle to beat them.

Time for Michael Cheika to crack the whip

JOC is in good try scoring form over in Toulon Alex. Unfortunately he isnt eligible atm. I agree that Horne is the best we have available at the moment.

Personally I think a much more balanced, experienced and skillful backline for the 3rd test would be

9. Genia
10. Cooper
11. Kurindrani
12. Giteau (vc)
13. Kerevi
14. Haylette-Petty/Mitchell
15. Folau

21. Frisby
22. JOC
23. Horne

In the forwards it would be back to basics with a bit more maul practice and much more pick and go.

1. Slipper (c)
2. Polota-Nau
3. Kepu
4. Horwill
5. Simmons
6. Fardy
7. Gill
8. Houston/Palu

16. Hanson
17. Sio
18. Holmes
19. Carter ( actually thought he played well)
20. Hooper (also played v well, just need a different balance in the backrow)

Time for Michael Cheika to crack the whip

So you think we’ll stick with Kerevi and TK? I dont mind them in the centres but we are lacking a playmaker in attack. Foley’s game is a smaller version of what we need in a 12 imo. Until we get a better playmaker who kicks well enough from flyhalf and really demands the decisions and takes responsibility for the backline we are going to struggle no matter who is in the centres

I would have QC back in a heartbeat. Not having Beale or Quade has really showed the lack of creativity we have in Aus at the moment.

Roar Forum: What changes should the Wallabies make for the third Test?

Dont mind that team at all PeterK. Could possibly have Slipper starting as captain, but dont mind that back row at all.

In regards to halves, do you think that Lealifano and Toomua deserve a crack at 10 & 12? With Kerevi shifting to outside?

Well said RobC!

Roar Forum: What changes should the Wallabies make for the third Test?

I agree. That was poor coaching, and poor onfield leadership all round.

I thought Phipps and Foley actually played well as far as running goes, but where was the decision making? Was run at all costs the game plan? Btw not blaming it on those two, this is a captaincy/coaching deficiency in my opinion.

Team for next week

1. Slipper(c) 2. Polota-Nau 3. Kepu
4. Horwill 5. Simmons
6. Fardy 7. Gill 8. Palu
9. Frisby 10. Lealifano
11. Horne 12. Toomua 13. Kerevi
14. Haylette-Petty 15. Folau
16. Hanson 17. Sio 18. Holmes
19. Carter 20. Hooper 21. Phipps
22. Foley 23. Hunt

Cheika: It was my fault we lost

Grey was inside the box he’s allowed in, he had complete rights to the ball.

Stephen Hoiles apologises for bizarre question to Eddie Jones

Ringing the changes is the biggest mistake we could make imho. Horwill for Simmons, Carter on the bench. McCalman for Pocock and Hodge for Horne.

5-3 split on the bench, Sio, TPN, Kepu, Carter, McMahon, Frisby, LLF, Hunt

Cheika ready to ring the changes as Wallaby beast awakens

I agree Highlander. People can argue all day long about Horne, but at the end of the day he has faults like any other player. What he does bring is tremendous determination and guts, the right attitude and a will to win.

Wallabies team for first Test against England: Arnold, Kerevi and Haylett-Petty to debut

I agree Jack. For mine Gill is the most like for like with McCaw that we have over here. In being that he has the most rounded game and performs all the key roles while still being a major presence on the field. He is a major loss for Australia and I hope he’ll be back in 2018.

The All Blacks are half the team they were

I kind of agree NB, but I also want to see if Foley can take on the primary playmaking role. If it does work it has the potential to be devastating. But we shall see.

In an ideal world without elegibility rules and injury my backline is very much different. But the backline I named above is the one I think Cheika will pick and is probably the best available atm.

If no rules/injuries applied my backline would be this.

9. Frisby
10. Cooper
11. Tomane
12. Kerevi
13. Folau
14. Mitchell
15. Beale

21. Genia
22. O’Connor
23. Foley

In my ideal team Cooper pounds the opposition with big ball runners for the first 50 minutes and after that Foley comes on for Cooper and O’Connor for Kerevi with Beale moving to inside centre to do what he does best with Foley and Folau beside him, running in, around and through defences. This kind of game plan compliments all players involved I believe.

Eddie's right to play the underdog - this series is the Wallabies' to lose

Another observation- if LLF is unable to train in time, then Reece Hodge would almost certainly be in the 23 as the only other goal kicker behind Foley?

Eddie's right to play the underdog - this series is the Wallabies' to lose

I like your forward pack Elisha. Pretty well all the incumbents that did a good job at the WC so they rightly deserve first crack and I doubt they will disappoint.

The backline though, Im not so sure that LLF will be there as he’s not been in camp at all due to his wifes pregnancy. I would have thought he would be a lock for 12 in the first test otherwise, but we shall see.

On big Taquele, we must remember that he only has one test under his belt and while he probably deserves a spot at some point of the tour, Haylette-Petty and Hodge in my opinion deserve a crack as well and I dont think Cheika will have two inexperienced wingers on the field at once.

I fully agree with keeping Folau at FB but wouldn’t mind seeing Hunt come on for Kurindrani with 20 to go and see Folau pushed up into the front line ( depending on how the game is flowing).

For mine,

9. Phipps
10. Foley
11. Horne
12. Kerevi
13. Kurindrani
14. Haylette-Petty
15. Folau

21. Frisby
22. Hunt
23. LLF if available otherwise Hodge

Also agree with your bench except for Carter, would just like to see Arnold get a go to see if he can make the step up or not.

Thanks for the article Elisha, indeed England are rightful underdogs and it’s going to be interesting to see if our Wallabies have mastered the steely resolve to continue conquering whatever is thrown at them (bar New Zealand 😀 )!

Go Wallabies!

Eddie's right to play the underdog - this series is the Wallabies' to lose

Lancaster? No thanks. Todd Blackadder or Laurie Fischer please.

Would love to see Quade back at the Reds. He is certainly in the top 3 flyhalfs for Australia and having him back home in Qld would be great. Hope the new board can make it happen.

Coach hunt critical for Reds' bid to attract Quade Cooper

Alternatively we could put Hooper and McMahon on the wings?

A monster Wallaby side to take on the Poms

1. Slipper
2. Moore
3. Holmes
4. Simmons
5. Horwill
6. McMahon
7. Pocock
8. Houston
9. Phipps
10. Foley
11. Horne
12. Kerevi
13. Kurindrani
14. Folau
15. Hunt

16. Hanson
17. Kepu
18. Sio
19. Fardy
20. Hooper
21. Gill
22. Frisby
23. Lealiifano

If that isnt bench impact, I dont know what is! We take the ball off england all first half with Poey and Sean, and fling it wayyyyyy out to our new monster centers combination. Adding in a few barnstorming no8 runs from Houston!

Then in the second on comes the Fardy, Hooper, Gill combination the “Farhoopgill” (Fards on for Horwill) and we run through them around them, right over the top of them! Eddies mutton boys wont know what hit them!

39 Wallabies are here, but who makes your 15?

Dont think anyone could have picked this! Well done to all who made the cut. What an enteresting series this is going to be 🙂

Wallabies training squad for England series: Surprises galore in 39-man group

I know right! When you have good playmakers how beautiful is it see someone bust a tackle and sprint away down the sideline! I love it.

Wallaby squad for England (well a possibility at least!)

You can swap them around and play them whereever James. I think that 9-15 has some of our best attacking talent on the field at once while maintaining good defence and having decent kickers.

Out of interest, who would you pick?

Wallaby squad for England (well a possibility at least!)

But will he be by weeks end Brett? 😉

Wallaby squad for England (well a possibility at least!)

Agree PeterK. Part of the squad only. I do think we should start including them though.

Wallaby squad for England (well a possibility at least!)

Id say that Slipper and Holmes will be certain starters. They’ve had the best performing scrum all year.

Hanson should be ahead of TPN, he’s played consistently well all year and is in good form. I’ve got nothing against TPN but he’s done nothing thats any better than Hanson who throws better.

I dont agree with Neville, but having Skelton? No thanks.

Wallaby squad for England (well a possibility at least!)

That is an excellent point Boz. Hodge is in brilliant form and should be a part of the squad. He slipped my mind altogether.
