Isn’t One their sports channel? My biggest concern is that it isn’t HAD.

Is it that hard to pick the correct channel on your TV?

Five new big wishes for the upcoming A-League season

I saw many people applauding the selections against Thailand that he’d finally got it right. Then after the game I saw many comments of what was wrong with his selections.

One of his problems has been picking around injuries and having many players at the almost there quality (think strikers v Thailand).

I personally don’t see how he can win on this issue.

Including Goodwin is a win-win for Postecoglou

I label it fair and reasonable.

Ronaldo labels five-match ban 'ridiculous'

Wouldn’t a back 3 leave us with 3 permanent backs, however a back 4 only 2 permanent backs? Therefore, isn’t a back 3 better if we have a generally poor defence?

Highlights: Germany too good for Socceroos in Russia

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but I was under the impression that a back 3 actually provides more protection at the back than with a back 4 as with a back 4, 2 of the backs move up the wing leaving 2 permanent backs, whereas with a back 3, all 3 remain permanent backs and the 2 wingers support the defence.

Very interesting. Thanks mid.

A rare season of success for our European Socceroos

I’m guessing because Vukovic had Berisha’s sussed when it comes to penalties. Was it two he saved off Berisha this year?

"Sydney was a bit more lucky": Berisha bemoans Victory's misfortune after grand final loss

If that was the best all season then the atmosphere at Victory matches must truly be terrible.

I barely heard a peep until the goal, then again when Arnold was on the big screen. It was surprisingly flat.

The A-League has got the grand final it deserves

Agree. And it’s amazing how they play better with better players around them.

Insult and injury for Roar in ACL

Has this been one of the unluckiest seasons for the Road? And we still come 3rd.

Hopefully Jamie’s injury is not as bad as it looked, but if it is, I wonder who our 4th keeper will be.

I wonder what approach the club will take to AFC regarding the incident also. Crazy.

Insult and injury for Roar in ACL

They were both in the same position. I doubt fans would have had an issue with the recovery time to be honest.

The elimination finals showcased the best and worst of the A-League

Jamie Maclaren responded to the tweet himself saying it was untrue.
I personally will be waiting to see what is really happening.

Brisbane survive another week after winning dramatic penalty shoot-out

Really enjoyed this (nerve wracking) game and this was a good summary.

One thing I would like to see change with the VAR though is a consistency filter applied. Yes, it is to stop howlers, but where a penalty is called at one end and not the other for essentially an equivalent foul (conservative), I feel this goes against the point of having the VAR.

Also the ball that hit the arm in the box to provide control and set up a counter attack IMO should have been called.

Now to tomorrow’s game to see who plays Sydney.

Brisbane survive another week after winning dramatic penalty shoot-out

Agree with everything you’ve written, except the previously agreed (between both parties) position on the future for Broich has always been that there will always be a non player role at Brisbane Roar and the decision of whether he would be a player or not would occur after the season’s end.

Dear Roar fans: Stop complaining, and show up tonight

Lionheart, they have been club statements throughout the year. I can search for them, however it hasn’t been mentioned in the last week. If they did though, how many would see it as pouring negativity over Broich and blaming him (heck, some supporters already think the club is doing this).

As I said, It’s purely been bad PR at this stage and I have no reason to assume it’s anything else.

Everyone I know who support the Roar were keen to hear what would happen to Broich after the season as we were under the impression (as we had been told by the club earlier this year) not to worry about Broich as negotiations and talks would begin after the season. Reading between the lines, I assumed it would be a balance of fitness/injuries and ability to keep other players. If Maclaren decides to move elsewhere, how much does a decent striker cost? How much will Maclaren cost? This is just one of the permutations. Is it wise to lock in Broich before the make up of the team is locked in? I actually didn’t think so and early this year, neither did the club or Broich.

Dear Roar fans: Stop complaining, and show up tonight

So you agree it would’ve been best to wait until all the contracts were sorted to then see what was available for Broich? By all accounts, this is exactly what BR were doing.

Dear Roar fans: Stop complaining, and show up tonight

Well I did acknowledge there was a PR issue in my very first comment.

You also seem to say that the comments they have given and released so far as wrong and they need better management. So far they have said that:

– They had planned to negotiate with Broich after the end of the season.
– Negotiations would occur at the end of the season as Broich was unaware if he would be playing next year and both agreed it would be best to finalise contracts for other players with terminating contracts.
– Broich decided not to negotiate and called time on his career at Brisbane Roar before his last match at Suncorp.

I have read many of the comments on those posts and many are from whingers looking at it from the ‘I want Broich’ perspective and refuse to look at both sides of the story.

I agree the PR could’ve been handled better, but even you in this thread are ranting about how quality, money and salary caps are a distraction. It’s not. It’s a core issue about whether to sign a player or not. If these were not an issue, he would be signed. Guarantee it.

Dear Roar fans: Stop complaining, and show up tonight

If you were working for Brisbane Roar, how would you have answered those questions?

How would you manage it differently? What players (who would be paid more elsewhere and are at the end of their contracts) would you be prepared to lose to then get a player of lower quality?

Regarding their Oar and Borrello Facebook posts, are they not allowed to advertise the game in multiple ways.

It just sounds like to me you are really pushing hard with the second stage of grief. Your desire to keep Broich is likely to exceed the realms of reality unfortunately. IMO it does not help the game and it does not help the Brisbane Roar.

Dear Roar fans: Stop complaining, and show up tonight

So how many Jacob Peppers do you think is appropriate in the starting 11 to ensure we keep Broich?

I don’t think anyone is trying to say it’s Broich’s fault, more that he wanted to make the decision on his own terms. He knew the position of the club was to look at the situation after the end of the season and he had the decision to either wait and negotiate a contract then, or to announce his retirement when he did.

Player quality needs to be seen in the same light as the wages within the balance of the whole team.

I don’t know the exact financials, but neither do you. All I know is the salary cap is too low as trans seem to be coming up against this at the end of every season.

Dear Roar fans: Stop complaining, and show up tonight

Precisely my understanding which is why I think FFA restrictions and PR are the biggest failures in this whole debacle.

Dear Roar fans: Stop complaining, and show up tonight

Nemesis, if Brisbane win tonight, will be not be in Melbourne Sunday week?

Dear Roar fans: Stop complaining, and show up tonight

Brisbane and Perth.

Far more confident about the first, however they are both difficult games to predict.

The Roar’s A-League expert tips and predictions: Elimination Finals

My feelings about the Broich issue exactly. For those saying it’s easy to keep him and it’s all the clubs fault miss the fact that the salary cap is quite low and if you pay for sentimentality in the A-League, you’ll likely pay for it in the ladder position.

By all accounts, BNR were wanting to wait until after the season and all the finances were known before offering Broich a contract. By all accounts they were very open with this. If Broich decides not to wait, I’m saddened but he also needs to look after himself.

My biggest issue is that the club seems to have muffed the PR.

Just beat me to it. Looks like it was written last year not now as it would then be much more accurate.

Australia slide down in new FIFA rankings

I’m confused by this article. Is it satire?

“Australia have moved down three places to 50th by FIFA.”
Australia moved up 5 places to 50, not down.

“The Socceroos currently sit on top of their qualification group for the World Cup in 2018, which will be held in Russia.”
Australia sit 3rd of their qualification group for the World Cup.

“The countries, with rankings in brackets afterwards, look like this: Jordan (110), Kyrgyzstan (128), Tajikistan (138) and Bangladesh on 193.”
Was this article written last year? We played these teams in previous round of qualifiers and not the current qualifiers.

“With only one year to go to the World Cup, Australia looks in a solid position to qualify for the tournament and maybe even surprise a few big teams in Russia.”
Not solid at all. Once again, looks like it was written last year.
